The Fisherbeck Hotel is a beautiful stone building, parts of which date back to the first half of the 17th century, with further extensions added during the Victorian era. The oldest building was a tannery nearby The Little Beck River, whilst the main building was a wedding present given to his daughter by a gentleman.

An excellent hotel. The owners have taken care over every aspect to equip it to the highest standard. A warm welcome at check in explained all we needed. Immaculately clean throughout, our room was well equipped and very comfortable. An excellent breakfast in the morning rounded off our stay perfectly. Highly recommended

We stayed for 2 nights with our dog. Great service, the room was fantastic and perhaps most importantly the breakfast was superb. The room was spacious, clean and the bathroom was fantastic. The fresh fruit at the breakfast table along with those lovely muffins were welcomed. A delicious cooked breakfast was a great addition, the poached eggs were cooked perfectly every time. Would definitely recommend and when we next stay in Ambleside, we'll be back!

A really lovely hotel, lots of little details taken care of. The bed was comfy, new feeling pillows, great shower in the en suite. Breakfast was delicious with lots of cooked options and a well stocked buffet. Staff are really helpful and friendly. I had a great stay, and looks like it would be even nicer in summer with the outdoor areas.

The room itself was clean and the staff were all very welcoming and nice. Just one thing that we were abit confused about was our room hasn't been done at all within our 4 nights stay and I am unsure if it was because of Covid? We did get some fresh towels after we asked for it but just no one came in to clean and make up the bed. Other than that it was a really lovely stay here and we definitely enjoyed it.

First impression was good, a very pretty patio/terrace area and parking is good here for the centre of Ambleside. The hotel and room decor have an oriental feel to them, most probably because of the ownership. A matter of personal taste, it wasnt mine but there was nothing wrong with it. Room was clean and the bed comfortable. No English breakfast tea in our room. Jasmine, Earl Grey etc. Again, not sure if this was deliberate due to Oriental influence or just an innocent omission as there was English Breakfast at the breakfast table the next day.
Breakfast was amazing. Great choice of food, nicely presented buffet style for cereal/fruit/pastries etc however hot breakfast from a menu and cooked fresh to order which is perfect. The reason for the review being "good" as oppose to "great" - there's just something missing. Very little interaction with staff, not sure if that's down to language limitation. It just didn't feel very "Lakeland"

A warm welcoming building, staff are so friendly and always go the extra mile. Breakfast was perfect with lots of selections, no complaints at all! Handy bar and lounge at the fisherbeck, to watch the world pass by! Ample on site parking too. Had the weather been warmer and dryer we would of made use of the outdoor seating area. Refurbishment work was being carried out but no disturbance whatsoever. Recommended.

This hotel has recently been refurbished (still ongoing!), so the rooms are well made up with internet TVs etc. and the outside is a nice place to sit on an evening. I cannot rate the staff (particularly Gabrielle and the other cleaners) highly enough as they were all so helpful and made us feel well looked after. I think once the staff and owners have made the hotel what they want and have settled this will be a fantastic place to stay.
The location is just outside the main town centre so it's quiet (except for the road), but close enough to get everywhere quickly. Go around the back to avoid the main road! Breakfast started at 8.15, but could be requested earlier, and the rooms were of a good cleanliness. We will be back!

I only leave reviews when the experience was exceptionally good or exceptionally bad. The Fisherbeck at Ambleside fits firmly into the latter. There are two primary problems with this place, either of which would be enough to make the place simply unfit to rent out to paying customers for this price. First, the toilet and shower facilities are antiquated and extremely unclean - the shower walls are covered with mould between the tiles.
I would not expect hostels to have this level of lack of hygiene, and am sorely disappointed that I had to experience it at a so-called 4 star hotel. Second, the sitting room - which we confirmed was only recently extended - reeks of construction material. Initially, we hoped it was a temporary issue and tried to air out the room, but it seems that the smell is just a permanent feature of the room. If you like the smell of construction sites while you sleep, this is fine. If I could give the place 0 stars, I would do so.

Great place to stay! Great Breakfast! The Staff were fantastic and they all went above and beyond to make sure we had a good time! I stayed with my 2 year old son too who they treated so well! They left balloons to play with in the room and they gave him some food to feed the fish in the morning too which he loved! Highly recommended and would 100% stay again! I'd give more than 5 stars if I could
