Ees Wyke is an elegant Georgian house in Near Sawrey, a small village in the English Lake District. Once the holiday home of Beatrix Potter it is set on high ground overlooking and adjacent to Esthwaite Water. Now an elegant and personally managed guest house in our 20th season, we offer luxury accommodation. We have won awards for our breakfasts and for many years have retained an AA rosette for dinner.
We are recommended in the Good Hotel Guide. A comfortable stay is assured. The dining room and lounge together with most bedrooms have stunning views across the Lake to the fells of Coniston Old Man, the Langdale Pikes and the extensive woodland of Grizedale Forest.

Services
The author, Beatrix Potter, stayed at Ees Wyke on several occasions when the family rented the house as a holiday home. The house was then known as Lakefield. Later she purchased nearby Hill Top Farm, the setting for six of her books of which the first was "The Tales of Peter Rabbit". We know from her letters to her publisher that she stayed here while editing "The Tales of Peter Rabbit".
The breakfast menu features locally made sausage and dry cured bacon from our butcher and homemade bread. The generous buffet table has a selection of cereals, freshly squeezed juices, compotes, porridge and freshly baked croissants. We have received The Automobile Association award for breakfast. See samples of a recent menus.
Our rooms are the perfect place to unwind after a day walking or touring the English Lake District. Lovely hotel. Great lake view and fields/woodland view from our room(part of the reason we chose it). Staff friendly and breakfasts to a good standard. Room was clean and was only really used as a place to sleep so spot on for us. Waking up to the sound of birds and sheep is ideal. Probably best to ignore the sat navs instructions to enter via the side of the drive as it is tiny and tight!
Go to the main road entrance and it's far easier. Nice and peaceful surroundings which are great for walking and it's not to far to the nearest main town either. Happily go back

Had a lovely weekend away here. Room was very nice, the sitting rooms are lovely. The breakfast was very good although had to ask for things like jam & honey rather than it being out which was a bit odd. Dinner at the hotel was also lovely. 3 course meal was excellent and just about the right amount, definitely not super large portion sizes so easy to manage it all, I probably could have eaten slightly more and am a small woman!
Overall thoroughly enjoyed our stay. 1 star off because we wanted the open fire lit in the afternoon / evening on a grey drizzly day in mid October & they wouldn't light it saying they had no logs / coal!? :

A comfortable room, but the restaurant was a disappointment. The starters were substandard, the main perfectly okay, though I could have cooked it myself at home, while the dessert I had was a frankly bizarre combination whose menu description promised culinary expertise that was sadly lacking. Breakfast was okay, but nothing to write home about. The staff were friendly though. The best bit was the location: specifically the view from the veranda at sunset. Overpriced.

The views from this hotel are unbeatable! The hotel itself is so clean and so pleasent to stay in. The staff are very friendly and so attentive! Also, the food is incredible. Overall I can't praise this hotel enough. Me and my fiance enjoyed our stay thoroughly and will definitely be returning! I'd also like to thank all the staff here, especially Caroline, for helping me to plan my proposal to my girlfriend.
