Visited this place for the first time tonight 06/06/22 at approx 20.00pm for a drink as I live local, I have never felt more unwelcome in a pub in my life, the bar maid or owner was the rudest person I have ever come across in Maldon.

Stayed two nights to attend a funeral. Bedrooms very tidy and recently decorated with modern bathroom. Staff friendly but doing many jobs, understand it is up for sale. Bars very good selection but disappointed no cooked food only breakfast which was great. Public rooms are like entering a museum.

Called into the Bar for a drink. Bit disappointed to Learn the Micro Brewery had gone but the Crouch Vale Brewers Gold was a good substitute. Love the history of this place and the eclectic look of the Bar

Rooms: Quite good except, dust on vent. Not vacuumed under beds. Walls in bathroom stained, not repainting properly. Generally fine including cleanliness. Service: Breakfast was very slow and tables not cleared. Okay selection. Food, nothing great. Location: Charming in the sunshine. Central and parking very good. Value: Price was okay. Improvements: Firmer mattress. More of a welcome to this hotel both from a room and from receptionist.

Nicest pub in Maldon, in a building dating back to the 14th century, but whenever I've been it has either already closed for the night or was about to close. There are rumours of new ownership which will hopefully turn it around.

Scary looking portraits, no-one on check in felt like the Mary celeste, broken coffee machine in room, noisy room where street cleaners and rubbish vans wake you from 6am, shower gel and items in bathroom not replenished so none to really use and no milk in the room, very dusty items like lampshades and tv remote in room unlikely cleaned in months.

Card only. Seating outside, will need some patio heaters before long. Very warm and cosy inside.

Reviewed as a pub, this is one of the oldest pubs in Maldon, there may be one older but the Blue Boar is by far the most interesting building with an agreeable old world feeling and various drinking locations in and outside the building. My favourite, in summer, is the open seating area to the left of the pub/hotel, this area gets the sun most of the day and during the evening, there is plenty of comfortable outdoor seating and tree shade with umbrellas. Drinks are ordered at an open window, prices are well below London pubs so this is most welcome. The slight downside is the lack of food served but the locals trot over to the nearby fish and chip shop and bring food back for al fresco eating.

Don't be put off by the person who answers the phone. When I got there, I found a large free carpark, at the rear of a lovely old hotel. The place is very clean and staff very helpful. My room was a bit small, but that couldn't be helped, as most of the room was taken up by the on sweet bathroom. The town is full of independent traders, so it doesn't look like every other high street.

The Blue Boar was very comfortable, sunny and warm. Played good music and adhered to social distancing rules. When we visit Maldon we go there.

Our family was here in March 2020. We loved this place. Off site parking was close. The room was nice, clean and quiet. The restaurant was fantastic. The food was delicious the staff are great and accommodating. Our family really enjoyed the whole stay. Will come back here on our next trip to England.
