I work a long day in Maldon. A friend found the Oakland for my overnight stays. It was reasonably-priced, having in mind the current assault on our currency. Every room facility functioned. The bed was comfortable and the TV worked. But I came to enjoy going downstairs to the bar, a bar full of local people relaxed and simply talking. Here was an "extra".
Way better than a modern hotel, set in the centre of a small, tidy Essex town, one possessed of remarkable new brick columns set in a frieze that would not have looked out of place in an Italian riviera concourse. There's more than only one way in Essex.

Cheap and cheerful, nice quiet clean room.really comfy bed. and an excellent breakfast. very friendly owners and staff. The Oakland pub next door with reasonable prices and live music on weekends. Down to earth, genuinely nice people. cheaper than a Travelodge. with a good selection of restaurants near by. We loved it.

NOTE: THERE IS absolutely NO parking spaces if you want to stay here you have to park 5 minutes away and walk to the hotel., Also there is a huge bar and outdoor sitting area where many gather to drink and smoke under the bedroom windows so don't expect a good sleep as you will be awaken by noisy tipsy people. The free full English breakfast is small but of good quality so it was very nice and cooked fresh to order so no complaints there

All the staff were helpful, friendly and welcoming, always checking everything was ok. The room was spotless and the bed comfy. The breakfast menu was plentiful, something for everyone, including Andy's full English. Our stay was over two weekends with live music nights taking place and we weren't disturbed at all. Thanks to all at The Oakland for a comfortable and excellent value for money stay.

Very good location for a short stay, close to amenities. The staff were always happy to help and also responded to any questions accurately and quickly. We arrived early, and our departure as a bit later than advertised - these issues presented no problem for the hotel. The room was clean and comfortable; breakfast was also very good.

My Contemporary room had carpet from the 60s and a doily over the bed x'D the lights made me feel I was in a nursing home (dull and orange wall lights) the mattress wasn't great, no plug sockets near the bed but It was clean and the staff were lovely. There was a lot of noise until midnight as they have events going on downstairs.

Took the room for a family of 4(double bed with bunker bed). Facility is well maintained with free Wi-Fi located at the centre of the town & literally accessible to most things you will need. Breakfast included was a good touch. Except for no in-house restaurant for lunch & dinner but there are very close area to do. Also no in-house porter as in where I came from. Price per night not comparable to what I am use to. But generally a great place to be.

We spend one night there in the room there was no cold water in the bath so could have a bath or shower. The wash basin had a big crack in it. I did say when I was checking out.they said they would check it out no money off no sorry disappointed. The Indian restaurant next door was brilliant the food very nice and the staff were friendly.

I would give full stars to this hotel as it's been a great room. Light comfortable and clean. Everything we hoped for. But it is part of a well used noisy pub.and there's a live band Saturday nights. For some this would be no problem but our stay required getting to sleep a couple of hours at least before it got quiet. Two very tired guests wish we had known beforehand.

We stayed here for one night. Great location in the very centre, near restaurants. They do not serve food but let you bring take-outs from other places. If you look for a lively place, you will love it. The only thing we didn't like is that although the bar was open until late, they do not serve breakfast and only bring you a bag with a continental breakfast to your room which is an erzac, and a pity. Other than that, we had a great stay.
