Not the 'new' hotel we were expecting. It is run down in places and a building site in some others. The entertainment was spectacular and very good. The quizzes were varied and fun. The food was good, but the service varied greatly due to the tables being a long way from the kitchen. There were lots of things to do.

We had such a fantastic time from the moment we arrived. All the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The facilities/activities were second to none. The food was delicious and plentiful. The shows were West End standard. Well done Potters we will definitely be returning! Thanks for a great well-needed break!

Great location (64 miles from London) and fantastic staff each and everyone. Nothing is too much trouble. So much to do indoors and outdoors which bring out a competitive side! Entertainment is at a standard comparable to the West End. If you play golf a championship course is there for you. Food is of a high standard and great selection of drinks and wine. We will be going back.

Great service, the staff are the most friendly and helpful people probably on this planet. The food was outstanding, and the entertainment shows were excellent. The activities programme provides something for everyone so their is no excuse for being bored. The accommodation is a little dated but I'm sure it will be updated over the next couple of years. A great addition to the Potters empire.

Had a blissful spa day here today including a stunning back, shoulders, neck, decollete & scalp massage with afternoon tea. Enjoyed the pool, jacuzzi & sauna & had a lovely rest in the relaxation suite. Gutted they are no longer doing spa days. They have been taken over by Potters & only do half day packages. I couldn't fault today. Well & truly looked after. Friendly staff, lovely food, great facilities & clean

Had a long weekend Spa tripwire the Mrs. The rooms and hotel facilities were looking a little tired and require redecoration. The staff and service however were excellent. The hotel had just changed ownership and undergoing a change of funtion to an all inclusive resort. This was also part of the problem as during our stay restaurant moved from quality menu table service where I had a good Thai tuna and steak to mediocre buffet. I may go back in a couple of years time although not in any rush to do so.

My daughter and I had a spa day, it was a gift. It wasn't really a good day, we had planned to spend the whole day there, but firstly we were in a locker room that was unisex, when we went down to the pool area, we went into the steam room first, it wasn't hot at all, so we didn't stay in there, other than that, there was only the sauna. We had two treatments each, which we decided we just wanted a pedicure, so because we had two treatments booked the lovely receptionist, she said we could have a luxury foot scrub as well, but we didn't get that at all, not even our heels were buffed, so that was very disappointing.

The afternoon tea was so disappointing as well, firstly we only had sandwiches for one person, we had to ask for more. The bread was hard and plus they didn't look too appetising at all, we weren't offered any top ups with our tea either. The cakes weren't up to much either, when we looked around at the other cakes on people's plates, they had such a better variety.

My daughter did complain to the lovely receptionist and she did offer a half price treatment on another visit, but we won't be back, so she gave her half her money back. I don't normally do a bad review, but I think I had to in this case.

We had a fantastic time the staff were really helpful and very friendly. Bonus for us the weather was beautiful so was able to enjoy sitting outside with drinks and socialising. The entertainment was amazing considering they are part of the Potters company. So many activities to try out especially for us as we now in our 60s. Food and drink was lovely too and plenty of it. Cannot fault it if l had to say anything negative it was that we didn't want it to end.

Advised by fivelakes on contact to book in March instead of May for a spa weekend due to five lakes being taken over by Potters and we would not be disrupted by the change. This was for a special birthday. Unfortunately renovationsd had already started. this was NOT on the website neither was we informed which left things not open and some out of order.

Restaurant service was shocking. Wrong orders (somehow food that wasn't even on the menu)long waits and non attentive staff. Our table was booked for 6.30 and we left the restaurant at 9pm. Quality of hotel itself needs some care taken to it. After several discussions we did get a partial refund. We will not be returning. This is shame the standards have change much as we have enjoyed stays here previously. The spa girls were really good. And also a friendly reception member.

Menu unchanged over 3 nights of our visit. Very difficult to find bar/ lounge which was more like a cafe, although the view was beautiful. We had a village room which was quite comfortable, however it was very hard work to flush the toilet and almost impossible to shut the door quietly. All staff were extremely helpful and polite.

Golf was good, pool was cold, jacuzzi was cold with no bubbles, food was passable, dessert was a manky microwaved cherry bakewell, my wife's afternoon tea was terrible, all in all, cost me 270 for a round of golf and a massage! Definitely won't be staying again, golf was fun though

Really nice resort. We went off-season so there wasnt much happening but it's a great place to spend time away. Dinner and breakfast were fantastic and the massage sessions were really relaxing and effective. Will definitely be going back there at some point.

We visited the resort over night for my daughters cheerleading competition. Beautiful looking place and exceptionally clean. Our room was a decent size and had wash items, tea and coffee, hair dryer. The sofa bed wasn't great but good enough for the kids. But my biggest praise and compliment goes to the manager Chris and staff member called Shanieze.

My severely Autistic son found all the people, the music and just the general atmosphere extremely over whelming which caused a huge meltdown. People passing me staring whilst my son was hysterical. Both these team members and a member of public went out their way to help me and my son. We've never been to one place inclusive and understanding of this disability. We will be coming back purely for this reason. What a great team, I can't thank you enough in that moment of crisis.

A lovely spa with welcoming, friendly and helpful staff. The changing area, treatment rooms and relaxation room were all top class. Unfortunately the pool area is a bit tired looking however the pool, sauna and steam room all do the job

As a business flow analyst, I share my top six gripes: 1. Ignored request of feather pillows, no call saying otherwise, (booked 3 weeks in advance). 2. Croissants were cold, should have been under heat lamps to keep warm. 3. Cups left on table, instead of next to coffee machine. 4. Cheesecake was more like a bath sponge. 5. Bathroom from 1970's, both taps both gave out hot water! 6.

No real process on check in, all three staff confused! 6. When asked for a partial refund it took five return calls, three emails, three management staff to deal with and 26 days to process! Check-in needed a physical card, even though it had been paid for! Tap and go from a phone was not enough. Seems no updating has been experienced for a many decades. No return for me.

What a lovely stay we've had. The bed is sooo comfortable and the food is delicious and staff friendly especially the guy in the bar (don't know his name) he went out of his way to make us welcome. The spa treatments were amazing especially made awesome by becky and Amy. Thank you to everyone will definitely recommend Five Lakes

I've been travelling for work in Tollesbury, and I've stayed at the hotel for 6 nights. This place is located in the country side, due to the nature of this resort hotel being a golf course and offering spa, swimming pool, gym and a sauna. Perfect getaway from a busy city, play golf, enjoy the quiet. The room is big, mine had 2 double beds, an LCD Tv, a small fridge. Bathroom has a shower and a bathtub. There is a restaurant, also available room service.

Returning to this hotel after a number of years and immediately noticed the decor is still largely the same. Not necessarily a bad thing though as it's still a well designed space. Great country club for golfers and the surrounding areas have some beautiful views. I recommend the *village rooms* for spacious quality and balconies which are annexed from the main building. Free parking with a large tesco less than 10 mins drive away.

We (a group of 3) stayed on an overnight spa package. Our room was spotless and very comfortable, just a bit too warm, even with the controls on the coolest setting. I had a fantastic massage by a wonderful, attentive therapist (I can't remember her name, but thank you, it was just what I needed on my back full of knots!). The food was excellent at dinner and again at breakfast.

We had good experiences with all of the staff we encountered. Our swim and sauna were nice and relaxing, would only have been better if the jacuzzi/ whirlpool bath was working.

We stayed over a weekend for a golf break. I'm not a golfer but courses seemed well maintained. We were very impressed with our rooms which were separate to the main hotel but spacious with comfortable beds and good showers. Dinner and breakfast were very good with vegan options. The staff in the dining room were patient, polite and seemed genuinely invested in ensuring we had the best time, thank you.

We probably spent nearly an hour over the weekend in 3 short queues to check in, buy a coffee in the sports bar and to check out. It seems they need a better check out system and more staff In the sports bar.

Enjoyed a relaxing time here, the room was very spacious with a large comfy bed. The hotel was easy to find with the large amount of signage to guide you to the large acreage surrounding the resort. The staff in reception were very polite & did their best to accommodate your requests. Took a nice swim in the warm swimming pool followed by a good steaming in the sauna.

The restaurant was good & the meals were tasty. Service needs a little work but in these challenging times I can understand. If you like a game of golf then this might be a place for you.

One of my favourite places. Rooms are spacious and lovely. Spa pool is a bit small and gets crowded at the weekend due to hen parties but weekdays are empty. Buffet breakfast and dinner are so worth it and the food is amazing. Breakfast is my favourite with everything being avaliable to you. Spa treatments are nice. We always upgrade to the club lounge for soft drinks & canapes. Best spa in essex area
