Situated overlooking the Pentland Firth with panoramic views of the Orkney Islands, this busy Hotel is located in two acres of it's own grounds, situated on the outskirts of Thurso, at the junction of the A9 to Scrabster Harbour and the main road to the west coast of the Highlands, within two minutes of the Orkney car ferry. Across the Firth, lies the Orkney Island of Hoy with the much-publicised Old Man of Hoy clearly visible at its western extremity.

Thurso, the most northerly town on the Scottish mainland, is a busy cosmopolitan and self sufficient community of over 10,000 people situated at the mouth of the river Thurso. It traces its origins and takes its name from the old viking language, when it was named THOR-SAA, which translated means Thunder River.

We stayed here on 17th and 18th May 2022 and couldn't have been more impressed. The room was huge, with 2 windows - from one you could see the beach and Thurso Castle, from the other window you could see the ferry port. On one of the days, it was so clear you could see the nearby islands too. The room was clean and cosy, at the right temperature. Enough storage for our needs and a good amount of teas and coffees.
The bathroom was absolutely lovely too. The staff couldn't have been more lovely. They looked absolutely run off their feet, we saw the lady on reception also on the bar, and she brought us our evening meal (which was delicious), then the next day she took our breakfast order, but they did everything with a smile which made our day. Free parking, and a good amount of it. Great location next to the ferry terminal.

Bookes a table today for lunch for the first time since COVID. Found out when we got there that it has changed hands. The menu has changed and they have gotten rid of the specials board. Food was at best OK. One of us had Steak pie, the meat was very tender but dry as there was absolutely no gravy in the pie. Also it only came with peas, in the past there was a mixture of 3 or 4 veg with the pie.
Another had fajitas, and asked for only a little peppers. The fajita mix had peppers the accompanying salad had peppers and the salsa mix was about 70%peppers. The sweets on the menu both said with whipped cream which did not arrive and the Chef who served the sweets when asked about cream arrived with a jug of fresh cream. Also they must be using the lidl staffing policy as the woman behind the bar was also taking food orders, serving food and tending to reception, and that was why the chef served sweets. Sorry but it will be a long time before we visit again.

My partner and our 2 dogs booked for 3 nights staying in the lodges I must admit when seeing the lodges they were not as I expected and I was initially disappointed and asked to be moved, but after staying the 1st night in the lodge decided against moving to the self catering rooms l, the beds were very comfy shower was lovely and hot the food was 1st class but what made it for me were the staff so so friendly and welcoming If I were to come back I would definitely stay again. Thank you so much for a lovely stay 10 out of 10

Usually Cheaper to phone to book a room than online. Lodges are roomy and recently renovated. Basic but good price and excellent breakfast included. Friendly staff and good menu at the bar/restaurant. Perfect spot for a surf trip as can see the spots from the conservatory while having breakfast. Plenty parking for van/camper.

The Weigh Inn Hotel itself was slightly dated in decor but the evening meal we had was delicious, loved the posh chips. Unfortunately we stayed in the lodges at the back of the hotel which was nothing more than sheds really, decor was terrible obviously not been done for sometime. Noise was bad as a function was on, so youngsters coming and going who weren't quiet.
Free breakfast was disappointing, waited 30 minutes after finished it to receive our toast. After the meal the evening before we expected a top notch service & food but not up to the same standard. Conveniently situated for the Northlink Ferry if it is cancelled due to weather but wouldn't stay longer again.

Hotel part was lovely, receptionist and the night/early morning porter was lovely. Bar & pool tables with restaurant, steak pie was nice however service was slow. We stayed one night but honestly avoid the lodges if possible. they are extremely noisy. You can hear traffic, motorbikes and to top it off the next lodge to us (17) arrived at midnight with a roaring BMW car and parked right outside the lodge. If you want a good night's rest don't stay here in the Lodges.

Sorry to have to relate our experience having travelled from Stirling five hour journey was really impressed by the outside look of the hotel.reception was nice receptionist was lovely.she informed us that we were being allocated a lodge.we were somewhat taken aback when we entered the lodge?.it turned out to be a very small square room I don't know if it was due to the room maybe being unoccupied for a length of time but the smell of damp pervaded the entire room.my wife who suffers from cold told me that she was unable to stay in the room and went to sit in the car to enquire if there was another room available.due to the hotel being fully booked they were unable to accommodate us.wife requested a refund which was duly paid.we then decided to just go home having been rather disappointed with our experience would suggest to management to please check that their accommodation is fit for purpose for their guests.hey ho instead of a couple of nice days in Thurso exploring we just passed through.
