Viewfield House Hotel Uniquely situated within the Islands capital Portree, yet set in 20 acres of woodland garden, this country hotel is an ideal base for touring Skye. Built over 200 years ago, Viewfield House retains all its original charm and the splendid victorian interior is wonderfully intact. Viewfield House has 11 bedrooms, ten are en-suite and one has an adjacent private bathroom.
Services
Viewfield has 11 bedrooms in the main house; ten are en-suite, and one has an adjacent private bathroom. These are spread over three floors (no lift). Rooms on the second floor (up two flights of stairs) have coombed ceilings. We have two further double bedrooms, with en-suite shower rooms, in the Old Stables, adjacent to the main house.
Viewfield House is set in 20 acres of woodland garden on the outskirts of Portree, ideally situated for exploring the beautiful Isle of Skye. The old Gaelic name for Viewfield, is Goirtean na Creige - roughly translated as the green meadow under the rock. In our grounds, you will find Skye Shrubs and the Viewfield Garden Collective, and paths down to the village, and up to the hill behind.
We offer light suppers at Viewfield: perfect for a cosy night in. Soup and a cheeseboard are available daily, along with charcuterie plates, deviled smoked salmon, and vegetarian platters. All soups are homemade, and begin life as vegan (we like to add cream when we serve them). The cost for soup & cheese is 12.00 per person.
Jasper, who is an experienced professional skipper, will pick you up at Portree Harbour and sail you out into the bay past Ben Tianavaig to see Skye from perhaps its best vantage, the sea. Further out in the Sound of Raasay, sip a glass of Prosecco and lunch on smoked salmon, and other local delights, whilst taking in views of the Cuillins and the Isle of Raasay.
Book NowDouble and Twin rooms and the Master bedroom are not typically available for single occupancy. Nor are they let to more than two adults. Viewfield has three smaller rooms that we regularly let for single occupancy: a cosy Scots double and two small doubles. Please enquire before booking if you are looking for a single room and none of these three rooms is available.

Magnificient manor filled with family history and warmth. The drawing room with the fire in the cheminey after a long day of visiting Skye is just perfect. The breakfast is amazing, cooked on demand. And it is not even that expensive compared to other lodging in Portree. I'm not sure there is actually anything bad to mention about this place.

Iona, Jasper and their staff were fantastic and so nice when we stayed here for 3 nights. We booked almost all of their rooms for our large family party and it was a pleasure to stay here. The grounds are beautiful and the rooms are unique and very nice. While the minority might think the decor is tired, I saw it as a lovely vintage time capsule. Breakfast was always plentiful and delicious. It felt like we were staying in a home rather than a hotel, I highly recommend it!

Wonderful stay in this old eccentric manor. We were treated very well by the staff and enjoyed a dram by the fire each evening before bed. Comfortable rooms and great location.

Lovely location. Huge old Victorian house, set up high and back from the road within its own beautiful grounds. Hallway and drawing room are beautiful and traditional with a huge fireplace which was in use while we were there. Decoration in room was a little tired and could do with updating, but everything clean and in full working order. Large dining room with a view over the garden, is a pleasant place for breakfast, and the breakfast is filling and delicious. A great place to spend the night.

Viewfield House is not your typical B&B, but a gem of a place full of history and art in every corner you turn in this historical Victorian house. We had the biggest room in the house with a double bed and additional bed for our daughter. It was beautifully decorated (if you appreciate antique) full of original furniture of more than 100 years old, I would imagine.

Bed was very comfortable, high quality linen, comforter, towels, soap and shampoo. Spotless clean. Loved the views of the garden from the room. Super serene and tranquil. Staff were so kind and friendly, especially Henrietta. Breakfast was very good of high quality ingredients. Best coffee we had in our entire 2 weeks trip in Scotland. Parking area is plenty.

Location is perfect and just a short walk into Portree. In the evenings, you can get drinks and ice cream and sit in the nice living room for a chat with other guests. Cant't recommend enough!

We absolutely loved this B&B! Like some other reviews say, we didn't want to leave! It was so quiet, lovely and clean and the decor was wonderful. There was an open fire in the sitting room every evening, the food was great, especially the breakfasts! Everything we could want from a B&B. We would definitely stay again.

Older style hotel. Plenty animal heads up on the walls. Owners Iona and Jasper are great hosts. Jasper took us out on his yacht for a few hours. It was a great experience. Hotel is good. Rooms nice and warm. Great breakfasts. Ate dinner elsewhere, as we were out and about all day. Would certainly return.

Very nice stay at Viewfiekd House. Best part was the location, 10 minute walk into Portree (which has multiple shops and good restaurants) as well as centrally located 30-45 mins) to most attractions. Nice breakfast that you pre-order the day before, includes a starter and a main (though I dislike trying to anticipate what I'll want). Great service and the exterior of the house is stunning.

Quiet location within walking distance of central Portree. Dog friendly. Delicious breakfast and very welcoming hosts. Great for anyone looking for a home base from which to explore Skye.

This place was super busy when we visited and we waited for over an hour for our food! Normally that would put me right off but the seafood was so incredibly fresh and tasty I am still going to stick with a 5-star rating. The oysters were super fresh and the prawn tails were the sweetest and best I have tasted. We are in the little picnic area outside the hot food collection point which also gets a massive thumbs-up for hand washing facilities. NB there is no loo though and the car parking is limited.

Hope they get more stars to reflect the lovely accomodation & people who run it. Very helpful & interesting. A great Welcome. Lovely stay with my Partner & Dog. Soup & Cheese was an interesting spin on things for dinner. Quirky & lovely get away in these Covid times

Beautifu and so well maintained. We stayed in Master bedroom and 1st time in Scotland did not want to leave the place. Room was huge with comfortable bed and big bathroom. Property is full of history and even little pieces from the past are kept. I loved every bit of this place. One of the owners is very nice too and even comes to say hello to guests.

Which I see as a big personal touch and care from the owners behalf. Let's not forget the property doggy who is exceptionally gentle and nice. When we come back to Scotland this will be a place we will stay again.
