The Trooper Inn Situated at the highest point in Hampshire, the Trooper is one of the county's finest pubs. The Trooper lies in the heart of the countryside close to Petersfield and the A3, giving ideal access to Guildford & London and Portsmouth & the south coast. We offer a warm welcome to local diners and both business and leisure travellers. We are now a totally non-smoking establishment!
Services
The heart of the Trooper, our spacious bar combines the traditional character of an English country inn, with a continental elegance. The large, sociable bar is flanked by comfortable dining areas, warmed through the winter by a generous log fire. The Trooper is a Free House, and we take full advantage of this to stock a wide range of excellent beers from the best local breweries, as well as from further afield. In the past six years we have stocked over 400 different real ales, each cellared and served with care, to guarantee a first class pint!
Each of our eight en suite rooms is named after a local village or landmark and has its own individual character featuring local scenes captured by photographer Jon Furley. The Trooper makes an excellent base for a relaxing and enjoyable break. We back onto the stunning Ashford Hangers nature reserve, and are well positioned for the South Downs, Jane Austen's Chawton and Gilbert White's Selborne.
As well as the dining areas immediately adjoining our bar, we also have a beautifully appointed separate dining room which serves as a breakfast room for overnight guests but which makes a wonderful venue for a function. Our food is prepared freshly to the highest standards, using the best quality ingredients sourced from local suppliers.

Stayed here fir a local wedding. Was made to feel very welcome. Had an attic room that was spotlessly clean and plenty of space. Very comfortable stay. Breakfast in the morning was delicious. Many thanks

Good atmosphere, clean and tidy with a very pleasant host. The menu looks tempting and I hope to sample it in the near future. Sadly, tonight was not the right time. Recommended.

Nice inn in just outside Petersfield. Room was big and airy. The whole place was very clean. Staff were pleasant and helpful. Checkin was quick. Breakfast was very good and staff catered for all our requirements. Bar has a good selection of beers and ciders. Evening meal menu was a bit limited but food was good and portion size very adequate. Overall we had a good two nights stay.

What an absolutely amazing place. The hotel was clean and tidy, the room was spacious and also very clean tidy. Facilities were great as was the view. The room was also set up as per requested specification. The bar/ reasturaunt was well layed out and had nice seating areas with a good selection of beer, softdrinks, cider and spirits. The staff were absolutely amazing and made sure every part of our stay was well looked after including dietry needs. All in all a gem of a place and definetly a place i will return too.

Great hospitality. Fantastic breakfast cooked fresh by Malcolm - you will not go hungry. The Soup of the day and the Port Loin Escalope for my evening meal was delicious. The room was immaculately clean and very comfortable. The cost to stay for the weekend was cheaper than a Travelodge I had previously stayed in a month before in Portsmouth (which I shall not be returning to after staying at the Trooper Inn) I would highly recommend a stay here, I will be returning with my wife in the future.
