Average stay. Hotel is in the process of hiring staff due to having been taken over. Not enough staff at present, restaurant was closed although BW hadn't been told this and were still allowing dinner bed and breakfast bookings. Mentioned on check in, was fobbed off. Took an entire day and 3 calls to speak to someone about getting it refunded. Still waiting but was told 3-4 days so will wait.
Bar was ok, beer a little flat. Staff friendly enough when you could find them. Breakfast was ok. Good portion sizes. Hopefully things will improve as they take on more staff but as of right now cannot fully recommend. Will try again later in the year.

Very dated hotel, check out at 10am for me is way to early, you have to pay a extra 10 a hour if you want late check out, the aircon didn't work, we had A junior suite, no slippers or water on arrival so had to ring reception to bring, pillows were very firm, good location for the railway station. Over priced for what you get, wouldn't return

Had my wedding here on the 3rd April and everything was excellent under the circumstances we are all having to live with after Covid, the hotel staff could not do enough for us, all you had to do is ask (not just sit and moan about it) the hotel put agency staff on to cater for our wedding to make sure they had enough to allow us to have an amazing day, food was delicious, couldn't provide a full English breakfast on the morning after due to the chef being there for 2 days for 2 weddings ( and so what the hotel was happy when asked to refund the difference) and as I have expressed excellent service, delicious food, so did the bride who married the day had told me she had, , so well done The Stuart Hotel, ,, Mandy the area Manager Adam, Sam and all the team at The Stuart and also to Michelle who dresses the room, ( stunning room) well me and Neil was totally overwhelmed by all the hard work everyone did, so please thank everyone who had part in making our absolutely perfect day, we will see u all soon

Staff were polite and helpful but very disappointed with food after we last stayed here over 2 years ago. At our dinner dance on Saturday 19 March 2022 the main and and dessert courses were served hardly warm on cold plates. Only peas for veg and small portion. Many people had to send it back to be warned in a microwave. Some tables were later taken veg tureens but we were not offered one. Expected full English breakfast on Sunday morning to make up for this but it was a continental breakfast. Croissants and bagels were hard, had to wait for ham and cheese slices, and one toaster for all guests! Had to wait for spoons to eat cornflakes with and had to wait for milk jug. So disappointed.

Completely shocking experience. They placed some idiots next door down which from 5am woke us both up with shouting, screaming, swearing and the smell of weed. This all carried on seemingly without any intervention from staff for 2 hours, totally waking us up to the point of not getting back to sleep and made us wary of even exiting the room. If it wasn't for these scruffs, this would have been at least a 3 star review as the room was dated but not too bad and the staff were polite and easy to talk to. Shame this was my first time in Derby and it's given me a slightly sour taste of the city and the type of people who live here.

Nice hotel, slightly outdated but has everything you need and in good location. The staff were mostly lovely but were let down by one rude female staff member with zero customer services skills. A colleague and I were due in Derby for another 3 weeks but have booked elsewhere after a couple of exchanges with her.

Please and please, don't ever go to this hotel because I experienced Sirites in their rooms and the poorest internet I promise you that. Their rooms are full of Spiders and web all in their rooms. I complained and they had to move me to another room and it was the worst of all. I came from Preston to Derby for Christmas holidays for just 10 days and I was able to stay for 3 days and I had to leave because of poor rooms and wi-fi which gives you only one wi-fi bar. For my loved ones please hear me out and never try to rent because you will be sleeping with GHOST . Thank you.

I stayed here for 3 nights as part of a Railtrail tour from 29th November - until 2nd Dec. First impressions were not welcoming as the larger, older, dark haired women behind reception went off at a tangent for not wearing a mask, and at that time they were not compulsory. So, after a 2/3 hour train journey, we were made to feel really welcome! This person however was a one off, as the rest of the staff were friendly, helpful and an absolute delight.
The twin room was a good size, the beds/bedding was clean but don't look under the bed or behind the radiators as those areas have not been touched in a long time. The bathroom was clean apart from the extractor which was thick with dust. There was also a lack of space to store ones own toiletries. The food on the first evening and breakfast was poor but it did improve, slightly, with some help from the manager. Tips: The Royal Telegraph is a short walk, with friendly staff and good food. They have better wine that is half the price of the hotel bar.

The hotel is very dated and cleanliness very poor. The car park is very small for the number of rooms available. We were forced to park in a non-parking space under the fire escape. Our friends were forced to park on the road! The check in was smooth, but when we got to our room we were greeted with the smell of damp. The window would not close fully and because we backed onto an ambulance centre we kept getting disturbed by noise.
The shower was cold and the pressure from the shower water was extremely low (barely enough to rinse off soap if you can brave the cold water). The bathroom was very dirty with lots of rust on the shower, shelves and radiators. To round it all off when we came to take our luggage to the car before checkout our key cards stopped working. Apparently they deactivate them an hour before checkout. We had 5 other friends stay across 3 other rooms in the hotel and had the same experience. I certainly will not be staying there again.

Reading the reviews me and my partner where a bit dubious coming here but we got a late deal and committed to it. Our greeting was friendly, informative and welcoming. After check in which was very smooth process we went to our room, large room with a nice comfortable bed and nicely decorated room. The bathroom had a bath and shower which was fully cleaned. Ordering our snack pack breakfast (which was a nice breakfast bap) was very simple, used our smartphones to view the menu then ordered at the reception.
Which leads to our second interaction with staff, another wonderful experience. Our breakfast arrived on time and checking out was quick and easy our third experience with staff here. She was friendly and very thankful of our comments about our stay. The whole time staff where professional and welcoming. Clearly reviews here are really harsh, people do nit pick the bad and forget the good. Thank you for our nice stay, if we're ever your way again we'll be seeing you.

We have just visited this hotel this week and the service delivery in view of the current pandemic was exemplary and could only be described as meticulous in every detail. As a retired Chartered Quality Professional and Management Consultant could not find fault with this establishment. I would thoroughly recommend The Stuart its staff and food. So what's not to like and the actual location and parking are a plus. You can. not get better value anywhere else. This place meets the mark for 4 star plus. Thanks for lovely stays to all the Stuart staff. Ray and Ros Rodden

My fiance and I enjoyed staying at The Stuart. Overall, I'd say it is a very average hotel. For the money we paid, it was a good experience. We did not recieve the bottled water and dressing gowns that we were supposed to, but we did get two free bottles from the bar after asking about them. The corridors are extremely hot and claustrophobic, but the rooms are the complete opposite.
We stayed in one of the 'executive suites'. The room was large and fitted with an air conditioner. The complimentary toiletries and tea/coffee making thingys were very good indeed.

A lot of what the previous reviewer says rings true. It's an odd specatacle of a hotel, The Stuart. But it is well intentioned. And it's friendly. It's fairly cheap, they serve half decent food for breakfast (I found anyway - perhaps not worth the 8.50 though. But the company was paying), and the bar downstairs is a decent enough place to relax with a drink and catch the football, if that's your thing. I'm a bit baffled by the obscure lighting in the foyer and the piped trance music. But I seemed to be able to get past this by telling myself 'you're in the midlands. It's different up here'.

Don't know how they can call themselves a 4* hotel. bathroom was cold - no heating and -5 outside. Bath was so short only a child could use it. Using the loo mean't squeezing my average build body between the wall and the sink - no good if you have more than 34 waist I would think. Nice decor and free parking which was a +. Oh and the rooms have very thin doors - my mate heard my text arriving from the other end of the corridor and we were both in our rooms!
