This restaurant does not want your custom if you have young children. The first comment when we walked through the door was "we need to make a start" and then proceeded to get our menus and death stare at us until we ordered our drinks. This was before we even took our jackets off. This particular server's attitude ruined the whole night for us, huffing and puffing at our order (we will ordered mains) and at our party. Yes, we were a bigger group and some noise cannot be helped, but we weren't rude, nor rowdy, just a group of friends with young children that wanted to have a nice meal out.

If you are going to paying customers like us with such distain then simply make the restaurant for adults only. The food was pricy for the area, and although tasty, I cannot recommend anyone come to this establishment. Try the Wellington Inn instead.

Had dinner here, food is pretty good, service is the worst I have experienced in all of England, hence the 2 stars. One of the waiters was so rude that made the hole experience awful, truly shamefu.

A brilliant place to both stay and eat. We spent a few days up here and it was bliss. The food is absolutely incredible and worth the visit alone but if you're looking for a weekend away and off-grid then this is it. The hotel and all the staff are wonderful and it's situated in beautiful countryside so great for walks or runs off road.

Did a walk along the Reservoir, out and back. The walk can be muddy and the local council has made any real effort to maintain the paths. BUT the silver lining to that you get to have a meal or a drink at the Sportsman's Arms. Simple menu. But the food was great. We had the Risotto and a salad. Both were really good. Service is good. Staff are friendly and helpful the surroundings are great. Especially when the sun is out and the ground can be enjoyed.

Very comfortable, non-corporate accommodation with bags of quirks and character. Excellent quality food and great service, and set amidst lovely countryside.

We had a delicious family meal (two families of four, with teenage children) just before Christmas and the food was - without exception - delicious, and the staff friendly and welcoming. The braised ox cheek with red wine jus, leek and creamed potato was superb. All other dishes were excellent too: rump steak, stuffed peppers, local lamb cutlets, pan-fried cod, etc. Pleasant wind-down afterwards by the fireside: cognac, whisky (from a large a varied section) and port. Highly recommended.

My girlfriend and I stopped off here for a night on the way back from Scotland and couldn't have been happier. Six hours Driving down from the Isle of Mull and we landed at the front door of this all awesome rustic spot. We settled in by the fire with a crispy ale and a packet of salt vinegar crisps - absolute heaven. Dinner was delicious. The father son duo worked on our starter of seared scallops and as soon as it was ready we were invited to sit down in the dining room where we cracked open a bottle of Chardonnay and eliminated these deliciously seared goodies.

The second course was a combination that we both shared of succulent yet crisped pork belly and pheasant shot locally at a Manor house that we were kindly suggested to walk towards as part of our morning antics the next day. Overall, a charming family run pub with a welcome family vibe and a rustic experience for both young and old.

Wednesday night in October, and just turned up for a meal in bar. Plenty of space, but busy enough to feel comfortable. Really nice experience all round, good service, beer, and food. It is restaurant quality food and prices, even though in bar, so don't expect pub prices, but our meals were top quality and we had a lovely evening so very happy and would definitely go again.

Love coming to stay here. The service is always very friendly and helpful, and the food is amazing. The hotel rooms could do with some investment now though - looking tired for the price

A great place for a relaxing pint after a lovely cycle ride with mates in Upper Nidderdale. Did the social distancing really well with table service in a large open side marquee and garden tables. Good choice of draft real ales.

Visited while on a walking holiday - The food was excellent and the staff were very friendly indeed! Quite an up market dining experience but worth the premium in my opinion. There is a bar area as well for a more typical pub experience.
