The Scafell Hotel is a wonderful Country House Hotel located in the very heart of Borrowdale, considered by many as England's finest valley, surrounded by mighty fells, tranquil meadows and crystal clear waters. A paradise for the walker and a perfect centre from which to visit other parts of the Lake District. The Hotel is situated almost at the foot of Great Gable and the Scafell Massif, and is regarded one of the Lake District's renowned headquarters for climbers and hill walkers. Keen anglers will appreciate the Scafell Hotel, as there is excellent fly fishing on the River Derwent and in Derwentwater.

We booked a night away here for Oct 2021 but as the local mini railway was closed due to severe storms that had washed away part of the track we had to postpone this at about a weeks notice. When I rang they said our deposit was non refundable and we would have to pay the full amount to rebook for the following week or lose our deposit - on that date most of the rooms were already booked and we had to have a twin room rather than a double as they were almost fully booked.
Unfortunately shortly after arranging this my mum then took a turn for the worse and became severely ill and we did not want to leave her so asked if we could rearrange our trip for after she passed. Katie said she was sorry to hear this but our booking was non transferable and also non refundable and included a copy of their policy. Other hotels we had also planned to visit in the Lakes at that time were much more sympathetic and we will be visiting these hotels soon and avoiding this one!

We stayed here during our hike up scafell pike, it was an amazing location and only a 6 minute drive to start the hike! The staff was amazing and do friendly and funny, the manager, yes I forgot your name like you said I would. sorry he was so helpful and had such a good character! Our waitress most evenings, I never caught your name, red hair with tattoos, she was just such a lovely person and was also so helpful.
The staff loved to see me hobble around after the 7 hour hike that my legs couldn't take but they showed me aome good stretches to help with the pain! I will be returning again!

Staff were amazing, warming and helpful. We were shown a nice route on the map up to scafell by one of the staff. They have this cosy living room space with a fire which is lovely to sit by in the evening while planning your next day routes or having a drink on the WiFi. Beds were comfy, location is perfect, 6 minute drive to scafell route. Tea room down the road which is amazing. Food at the hotel was super nice, you can see why they've won awards for it! We'll 100 percent be back, thank-you for the lovely weekend! Carol and Elliot x

The staff at this hotel are absolutely EXCEPTIONAL. Nick, our breakfast server, was a delight as were his colleagues. The staff at the Riverside bar were amazing and just bright, happy people. Lovely fire, very welcoming. The breakfast options and quality are incredible. Eggs were perfect, kippers delicious, the Benedict was superb. It's no wonder they have won awards.
You come for the staff and the superb quality of food and service. The condition of the hotel is mostly fine, a few things that you'd expect to be better for the price. Very clean, though and turned over nicely. We loved our stay and the hotel made not being able to complete the extensive hiking we had planned due to storms very comfortable and fun.

M y standard double room was very small and cramped paint peeling of wall behind curtain. The twin next door was much bigger. We discovered at breakfast that the room we were allocated was swapped out to other guests who arrived before us as they obviously complained about the room so got ours. Due to excessive rain, water was coming through the lower level of the outer building we were staying in. Whilst staff where very helpful and friendly the hotel was not as expected. We have emailed hotel 5 times and had no reply and we know they have seen emails.

Not worth 180 per night - Our room was shabby, the towels were threadbare, the seat in our room was pealing and whole of the bottom corridor in the annex (next to our room) flooded. The only positives were the lovely staff, the location and the couple who we had a drink with/befriended while complaining about the room (they were also complaining). Save yourself 50 and book into one of the cheaper and nicer hotels/pubs nearby.

Just returned after 3 excellent nights. Visited previously and never disappoints. Dog friendly, very comfortable, clean accommodation. Fabulous position which meant that we didn't start the car once as we went for some fabulous walks straight from the hotel. The Riverside bar always managed to quench our thirst after a long walk and Nick and the team were always welcoming at Dinner where an extensive menu is served. Jason and Kate on the front desk directed us whenever we required help.
Big shout out to the bar staff (sorry we didn't get your names) who stayed to the end. If you want a lovely break in the lakes with great food, great staff and you want to take your dog then the Scafell is definitely worth exploring.

Really lovely place to stay. A special thanks to Chelsea and Rebecca who were very helpful, kind and made our stay very special for my birthday. Very comfy bed and extremely clean room, delicious breakfast and wonderful surroundings, a really great place to sit outside with a drink. Unfortunately 4 stars out of 5 as I was a rather concerned the hotel employ no overnight staff, if you get locked out toileting the dog or having a smoke after half 11 you've had it!
You can ask for a key but it all seems a bit strange there not being any staff on the premises at all! But otherwise I would recommend this place, Katie on reception is a great laugh too. Thanks to all!

Only popped in for a drink and to use their car park before a half days walking but we still had to pay the 5 park fee. Took a while to get staff attention but other than that it was a clean and pleasant place with some nice seating areas outside and plenty of patrons which is usually a good sign. Prices average for the area.

I was told we could get a table for food at 6pm or wait until 8pm sitting. Me and a friend drank in the beer garden until 7:45 to then be told they're fully booked (they don't take booking). Had we been told to wait inside from 7pm there would have been no issue and we would have happily waited. Thoroughly disappointing visit made worse by abysmal attitude from staff. My advice to anyone is go to the Langstrath Inn instead.
