We had cream tea here and it was incredible, the savoury and sweets were all delicious. If you find your aren't full, more sandwiches are available upon request at no extra charge. We were served by Ben and that was definitely a highlight! He was attentive and ever so friendly. Highly recommend

This is in a stunning location overlooking the Thames and surrounding countryside. Lovely gardens. There's a good cafe with friendly staff. The guided tour is good and full of information but rather limited as it's still a hotel and restaurant, so you can only view a few rooms. I've eaten there previously. The food was good and service generally good but a little too formal for me.

Just spent 2 fabulous nights here and it was wonderful! Cannot speak highly enough of the staff, who were amazing and dinner, in both the Cliveden Restaurant and Astor Grill was spot on. The breakfast menu is extensive and my husband loved his full English! The wine list has bottles to suit everyone and it was great to try some new English fizz that we'd not come across before.

If you are the sort of person who wants modern and no history, then this is not the right place for you, but if you're like my husband and I who soak up every moment of being in this historic house, then it truly is worth every penny. Seeing the mist over the beautiful gardens, as you sip a glass of champagne, you imagine scenes like those in Pride and Prejudice - fabulous.

We enjoyed also a long walk around the immaculate gardens and although busy, there is so much space that it never felt crowded. The team of gardeners and volunteers work extremely hard. Our Classic room was a very generous size and the bed extremely comfortable. Cleanliness was perfect. Check out was prompt and bill sent directly to your email account to check before breakfast. Cliveden is obviously not a cheap place to stay and we are by no means rich people, but we prefer to stay for a few nights in opulent surroundings rather than more nights somewhere cheaper. We were not disappointed in any aspect of our stay and will very much look forward to returning. Thank you all!

We did not stay at the hotel but visited the gardens as they are National Trust. We visited with some relatives we had not seen for years and the gardens were a good midpoint. Easy to get to, lots of parking and places to buy teas and coffees plus a nice shop. Lovely grounds with lots of well marked paths to amble. Some paths are quite steep in places but not too long. A great place for a family gathering particularly if you are NT members with beautiful scenery. Would recommend.

An excellent hotel but not perfect. Our club standard room was very nice but we noticed some crumbs on the chairs when we arrived. There was no turn down service, which was surprising in a 5 star hotel. As a result our water and tea bags weren't replenished in the evening. The staff were very friendly but some of them seemed to be new and lacked training.

The waiter serving our champagne in the bar didn't appear to know how to pour it properly. We weren't offered nibbles to go with our drinks, which was an oversight. Breakfast was very good but the evening meal in the restaurant was poor and certainly not worth the money. The Astor grill was better but the food still had some issues e.g. tough steak and bland chips.

The location was excellent but the views you look at and the grounds you walk in are down to the National Trust and nothing to do with the hotel. The hotel is very dog friendly and they provide a bed and food bowls but no treats, except in the Astor grill. Overall a pleasant stay and we intend to go back when hopefully some of the issues will have been dealt with.

My partner and I had a wonderful stay. The experience was just amazing, and as a couple who enjoys luxurious stays away we really felt this was one of our top stays. The room was beautiful and spacious, really clean, quiet and comfortable. We enjoyed the added bonus if a closed off outside area with a hot tub. The food was beyond divine - our waitress in particular was knowledgable, remembered us each evening and what we liked from our first meal, attentive and friendly.

The staff overall were lovely, we tried two of the restaurants and both were incredible and the old horse stable had the best ambience and decor. The grounds were breathtaking and we enjoyed a full day of walking around, the outside pool was clean and quiet, the house/hotel was stunning and the spa was really enjoyable. Can't wait to come back again.

Beautiful National Trust property. Go for a relaxing walk, enjoy the wonderful gardens, take the kids, enjoy a picnic. this place has everything. Pay a visit; you'll be glad you did. Become a member and take advantage of being able to visit properties throughout the country at the same time as supporting their work of maintaining some of the most iconic places in the UK.

A wonderful escape into the luxurious past but with WiFi! Furnished with beautiful antiques, paintings and sculpture set in the wonderful NT parkland leading down to the Thames. Plus, there are formal gardens which are the amazing view from the dining room. Delicious food and unusual cocktails. The outdoor pool is at 28 °c and there is another indoor pool and spa /gym. Lovely for a celebration or a special treat.

It is nice but perhaps a little tired. Dining room was a bit like a function room and the food competent but when I am still drinking my cocktail when the entrees come the whole event feels a bit out of order. Good but not rushing back anytime soon.

The best welcome I have had in the UK. Divine suite. Fantastic staff. Great bed. Spa was great but indoor pool too cold for me. Did not try the outdoor pool. Jacuzzi was nice and warm just what my joints needed.

Many superlatives could make this seem over the top or uninformed as a review. However in this case they are justified as the idealized English country break. Basically Cliveden House is a historically significant country estate which has been carefully managed and grown with the additional of an extensive spa facility and additional restaurant in the former stables. Arriving from London is either a relatively quick 20-30min taxi ride from Heathrow airport, or else a short train journey leaving London from Paddington station, changing at Slough for Taplow and then a short cab ride.

We took the latter and timed leaving one hotel in Central London and the elapsed time to unpacking the suitcase in Cliveden was a little under 2 hours. The rooms have furnishings which are in keeping with the property and a lavish bathroom including in our case a fireplace - non functioning sadly but very good. For North American visitors remember this is a functioning old home - not a gutted, modern refurbished 5-star hotel.

This means some things can be quirky, but if you are thinking about coming the charm factor will overwhelm you. Sitting in the residents lounge is an ideal way to relax and watch the world go by, or indulge in a pre-dinner drink. The main (fine) dining room serves breakfast and dinner with lunch and a more casual dinner menu served at the grill. The spa kitchen is a third option to have a lighter menu either as a respite from health treatment or as an alternative.

The spa facility is very modern and the treatments well executed. An indoor swimming pool looked inviting. Add to that walks around the grounds which are adjacent to the Thames River. We arrived on a Sunday and it was busy in the grounds which, as a national trust property allow public access. The house generally speaking however is off limits to non residents and so whilst Sunday was busy, the working week was quite serene - if you have the calendar time I would recommend a week day visit.

This was our last stop on our European Trip and Cliveden house is truly synonymous for Heaven. We had the most stunning and detailed junior suite and felt we were transported back in time. The grounds are stunning. We enjoyed a private boat tour of the Thamas, enjoyed the pool garden, and had the most delicious of meals at Andre Garrett Restaurant. The whole trip, the whole estate is purely heaven and a must. After a long trip, staying here to relax prior to the short ride to Heathrow is a must.

Gorgeous hotel and historic estate outside London. If you want to experience English country life (of the upper classes at least), book a room here or just come for tea or a meal. The grounds are beautiful for an afternoon walk, even in the rain.

Another fabulous property taking into account the age (charm) of the buildings. Actual antique furnishings and original art work throughout. Fabulous history as the site of many a frolic, much in keeping with the origins of the property as a home built by the Duke of Buckingham to enjoy with his mistress. All well detailed in the book describing the history of the property, which is surprisingly well written and found in each room.

As I have found throughout my visit, the service was exquisite just as it was at the other properties reviewed during my sojourn in England. This one was property had a bit more stuffy/older clientele but I would not let that stop me. Grounds were magnificent so a walking tour is a must. Take the map from the front desk as there are 300 acres to explore.

The Restaurant was excellent with an incredible wine list and very knowledgeable sommeliers. Convenient to Heathrow so excellent place to relax at the end of any visit to England.

Amazing is the only way to describe this National Trust listed house. Steeped in history and having hosted many a famous people from Royals to commoners you feel special being here. Beautiful grand interiors, splendid rooms with antique furniture and great service. The grounds and gardens are amazing and you feel like you are in a different place. Food here is also good. Would come back here in a heartbeat.

So, its one of those days when you are going to a fancy place to eat. And this place is steeped in history and of course the profumo affair. There is no doubt that the decor is amazing, it's the giant pictures on the wall, the high ceilings, the mega cars parked outside. But what is the food like. Well the first thing i was amazed at was the price, this stuff is amazing value. 3 courses for 69 and you know its going to be good food and it was. Scallops for starter, perfectly done and one of those sauces that is teased over the dish but so perfectly compliments everything. Lamb with a simple mash is perfect and you could pick any desert really - it all looks good.

Good whisky selection if thats your tipple with some good aged single malts. They even had my favourite rum from Anguilla (ever get the chance to try - its called PYRAT RUM - the best in the world). Great service, great location. Its simple stuff but well presented - want to impress somebody then bring them here, if its your mistress then this is perfect place and links nicely with the history

Lovely property on the bank of the Thames with a long history. Popularised by the Profumo affair from the 60's this is a splendid house with lovely grounds and great opportunites to walk along the river. Saldy the House is a fully functioning hotel and you can only wander around the interior as a National Trust visitor on certain days (and obviously there is limited access).

The old greenhouse provides a great place for the cafe which serves standard NT fare. To be brutally honest I always feel I have missed something when I visit Cliveden as I feel it's smaller than it looks. It's a nice property in a great location but the fact that you cannot freely view the interior is a let down.

Cliveden is sometimes described as the best hotel in the world. I don't know enough places which might fall into that category to judge, but it's certainly the finest I've ever stayed in. The glorious Italianate facade which greets you at the end of the magnificent drive is spectacular, but intimate - and indeed Cliveden still feels like a large country house rather than an hotel. An additional wing overlooking the famous swimming pool adds a number of more standard-sized rooms, but if you stay, take one of the rooms in the main house with their beautiful views across the front garden down towards the Thames.

You enter through the main hall - a marvellous panelled room dominated by a huge fireplace and hung with tapestries - and the original portrait of Nancy Astor. It's a perfect place for tea - or drinks before dinner. You can have dinner in the Terrace dining room overlooking the garden, and it's now done up like a pudding in an overrich terracotta but still lacks intimacy. Moreover, the chef still seems to think that the type of nouvelle cuisine where you need a golf trolley to find your way to disparate scraps of food on a vast plate is 'le mode'.

The 'haute cuisine' restaurant Waldo's in the cellars is more interesting. There are also some fascinating portraits and photographs in the corridors - including a fine one of Christine Keeler. Breakfast can be taken communally at a huge table in a magnificent room at the end of the house, just as it was when a private home - but sadly now only if you book for a party of ten or more.

The pool area behind a lovely old wall has been converted into a full spa with a heated indoor pool, but it's still very easy to imagine the the beginnings of the famous Profumo / Keeler scandal there (for those who don't know about it, there's a brief summary here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Profumo_affair ) Despite the grandeur of the house and its associations, it's marvellously relaxed and one quickly settles in to the lifestyle. Surrounded by a large park and formal gardens which are beautifully looked after by the National Trust, there is much to see before returning to the comfort of the a chair by the fire in the library to contemplate starting some scandals of your own.
