The two centuries old, Monkey Island Hotel is picturesquely set on its own private island making it an unusual venue for all kinds of occasions. Located in the middle of the River Thames, near the village of Bray-on-Thames, Maidenhead, the hotel is accessed only by footbridge or boat. Surrounded by beautiful gardens, stunning river boats that ply the Thames and swans that merge elegantly with the scenery, the hotel blends its scenic location, natural beauty and architectural elegance to create a paradise.

Our stay was first class, the accommodation was excellent, and the staff were extremely helpful and polite. The hotel is set on an island in the Thames, and whilst adjacent to both the M4 and Heathrow, there was very little in the way of background noise (yes Really)! I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel for a relaxing and well catered for stay.

Very disappointing. We got married there 25 years ago and visited for a celebratory anniversary lunch. Told on arrival we had no booking, they could fit us in as long as we were out in one hour as they had another booking. Strange because they called us the day before checking which anniversary we were celebrating. Not made to feel special at all, shocking service. Food was ok but on the whole it was a dreadful visit, so very, very different to the wonderful place we had our wedding!

We're local and we love this place. Grounds are amazing and food always good. Yesterday for the first time I noticed they charge you service charge for going to the bar yourself, waiting at least 5 minutes to get served and me taking my drinks back to my table! Not good practice and very underhand. A glass of wine is 20 so adding service charge to that whilst you get it at the bar is out of order.

Visiting Monkey Island Estate after 12 years with my friend (my first visit as an American ex-pat who lived nearby for two years), was eye-opening. What an absolute transformation to a royal degree! From the bridge across the river to the meticulously manicured grounds, from the floating spa to the expansive dining room/bar area that spills onto the enormous patio overlooking the Thames, nothing has been overlooked.
We were greeted by the General Manager, Matthew Facey, on our way to afternoon tea. He couldn't have been nicer or more professional. What a delight! We asked to see the new event spaces we'd heard about. Again, expansive yet able to be split up for smaller events, too. Floor to ceiling windows that open to a patio area - what better spot for a business luncheon, charity event or wedding?!
The space is both intimate and inviting, private and elegant. Back to our afternoon tea, we were waited on by the very warm and kind, Charlotte, who patiently put up with all of our questions about the delicious tier of goodies - sandwiches, cakes, scones and cookies. Oh my! If you want a truly unique experience, a local star is just beyond Bray and you must consider it for a magical moment you won't regret.

We had a reservation for four at your restaurant during bank Holiday Monday. I would like to take this opportunity to compliment you and your team for the exemplary service provided. In particular Keshi, Marius and Charlotte, who were exceptional and made our dining experience memorable. They were courteous and attentive and nothing was too much trouble for them.
We were impressed by their attention to detail, their knowledge and understanding of the menu and drinks on offer. Marius and Charlotte were able to guide us through the excellent selection available without being overbearing. The Monkey island restaurant proved excellent, staffed by a lovely team of people, who are a credit to the hotel. I wish you and the team all the best for the future and will very much look forward to returning again later in the year.

Absolutely stunning location, very serene and calm. Great for relaxing. The floating spa was something different and a talking point. Massage was amazing, relaxing and delivered well. The bar was super busy in the evening and we left without being served. The bar staff are extremely friendly, personable and chatty. The brasserie staff on the other hand were a little cold and detached at breakfast.
Everything was seamless from check in onwards, and the rooms were beautiful and clean. The only negative point was the tiny beds - for the amount they charge you would think they'd be able to afford larger beds!

The location is really lovely and driving in is quite an experience. However, the service and food were lacking. The service was incredibly slow, the restaurant onky had three other tables when we arrived and we still waited 20-30 minutes between each course (lunch). The food was okay, nothing terrible but also nothing spectacular. It is a shame as the location and the uniqueness of the properties history is very exciting and it felt like a bit of a let down.

Great hotel, on its own island in the Thames. Its only possible to get on the island via a small footbridge. There are rooms on the river bank also, but the charm is being on the island. The restaurant is very good, and the breakfast is first class. Rooms are clean and welcoming, just a little small. Beds are very comfortable. So to sum up a great hotel in a unique location close to the top class restaurants in Bray.

My husband and I enjoyed our stay. The room was clean and cosy. We had a room with a terrace and the view was lovely. We also visited the restaurant. The food were exquisite. I must also mention the extremely talented Russell at the hotel bar who created the most unique and off-menu cocktails for us. It truly made our stay extra special.

We stayed for one night. It was a break to celebrate our birthdays. We had a terrace bedroom with lovely views over the river. Lovely room and the heated bathroom floor was a treat! The grounds were lovely to walk around. It was quiet and relaxing. Lovely breakfast ad the fruit salad is fantastic. Plenty of parking available.

Full of English charm and personal service. A refurbished old fishing lodge with all of the quirks of old buildings (e.g., freezing cold showers the first couple days, spotty wifi and an ethnic outlet on the wall opposite the desk), but the service made up for any of these inconveniences. They were very accommodating to special requests. For example, I'm lactose intolerant, so after they heard this, they went out and bought soya milk for my breakfasts. They also made me special eggs every morning (without the milk that was found in the scrambled eggs on buffet).
