On the good side -The Red Lion is situated in an excellent location next to the river in Burnsall. Some of the staff can not do enough to ensure your stay is excellent. The food we had on Friday evening was excellent, especially the Fillet Steak. On the could do better side -The room in the Manor House was old fashioned and requires work to bring it up to the standard you would expect when paying 180 per night.

The shower was very small with an electric unit which ran extremely hot then extremely cold at very low pressure. The TV in the room was very small and attached to the wall so high that from the bed it was very difficult to see the screen, On both mornings the wait for breakfast was extremely long. On Saturday breakfast took over an hour and on Sunday over 90 mins.

There wasn't enough staff for the number of guests eating breakfast. The food had been sat on the hot plate for a considerable amount of time so that when it came out the porridge and then scrambled eggs were ruined. There were also some staff who were not as good as the others. For example, one manager was openly berating staff in front of customers in a rude and unnecessary manner.

When speaking to one member of staff they explained that the Hotel was under new ownership and that over the next few months rooms in the Manor House will be renovated and that they are actively seeking to employ more staff.

Great pub in a lovely village. Stopped for a refreshing beer after walking to Grassington and back. The beer garden at the back looks over the River and is a nice place to sit and enjoy your drink.

Stayed 2 nights here over Easter weekend. Lovely location, great staff, great food and lovely bar. Good selection of food and drinks too. Can't give it 5 stars as the room we had for 180 a night was not what you would expect for that price. Don't get me wrong, it was a good size, clean and had a comfy huge bed. The downside to the room was the smoke detector has a red light which flashes every 10 seconds lighting the room up when it's dark.

If that's not enough to wake you up there's also a door in the room which is locked. From the noise coming from here all night long there must be a boiler or something in there which was firing up randomly all night long. Last but not least is the rusty radiator in the bathroom and the extraction fan that doesn't work so bathroom stunk all the time. Not what you would expect for 180 a night.

Setting to die for, idyllic village on the river location. It was a gorgeous sunny evening, which made it even better. Glad I had pre-booked for dinner, as it seemed to be very popular. Can see it being V.popular in summer with the lovely terrace on the river.pub was lovely and quaint inside with different rooms and nooks. Our food was really nice, gastro pub quality. Ordered a salad, but it was very generous portion and very filling, delicious. - Would be a lovely place to stay for a few days, as it also has rooms.

The Red Lion is an iconic part of Burnsall, the pub and location is stunning. If you get to sit outside on a warm day, then you have cracked it. Prices are high, but this is to be expected, it's a quality pub with a good choice of ales and decent food in a great location.

The room we had in the mansion house was very dated and definitely not worth the 130 that we paid for one night. I e we're shocked at the price but we were expecting a very nice room so was happy to pay, how wrong we were. For that price we expected much more luxury than we got. We even had to ask for biscuits, this is just standard in a hotel room, especially when you pay over 100 for it.

I was given 4 tiny shortbread biscuits on a plate. The staff both on the evening and morning looked stressed and under pressure. The food was nice but that was the only positive about our stay. We had breakfast booked for 9:15 but had to wait over half an hour before anybody came to take our order. Doing the Dalesway we had to be out and start our walk, but was massively delayed due to the slow service.

Many other things that were wrong that showed no management giving guidance to staff. The bar was full of empty glasses on the evening which made it look a very low class establishment and looked a mess. I was extremely shocked as I have been there previously years ago, what a difference! When checking out the lady asked how our stay was, I replied not bad, thinking she would ask what made it not great, but didn't!

She just repeated what I said and gave a little laugh. They obviously have the monopoly in Burnsall, but I will never choose there again. Think it needs massive refurbishment to warrant the prices charged for the rooms and staff training to sort out the issues with service.

Very nice warm pub in a good location and friendly crowd. I didn't eat any food, but menu looked local and good. Fire place was warm and dried out my sodden clothes;

We came the Red Lion 2 years ago for a wedding and said we needed to go back at some point and see what it was like for a normal meal. We were not disappointed, every course was out of this world and the steak and ale pie was absolutely the best pie I have ever had. How they get that much flavour in to it is unbelievable. Will definitely be back

Always a favourite over many years, and will be a more regular haunt again after returning to Yorkshire in retirement. The most recent menu is at the top end of pub dining, deliberately so. Very well presented, simple dishes using local ingredients. The atmosphere in the bar where food is served is always good. It s very popular with dog owners after a long walk who would normally be sitting at the tables by the river behind the building. In winter it's everyone inside. I counted 10 dogs in the bar over lunch, most well behaved but over keen sometimes to greet each other.!

So we didn't actually stay as unfortunately due to Storm Eunice, the village was at risk of flooding so our booking had to be cancelled. We wanted to leave a review as the Red Lion handled the situation very well, calling us early on the day to inform us of the flood and cancelling our booking ahead of time for the safety of guests and staff. We really appreciated this and it was such a shame we couldn't stay. They waved any cancellation fees as well. We really hope to re-book our stay another time.

Absolutely disgraceful, very rude staff, management. Avoid this place like the plague. It's an embarrassment to all of Burnsall. I would like to take this complaint further, please contact me. 0/10 The supervisor and manager are both unprofessional and clearly in the wrong job. Daniel Thwaites would not be impressed

It seems since the takeover nobody answers the phone, it's impossible to leave a message and expect someone to get back to you they simply ignore the message.

Just been for a family Christmas meal. It was awful. The Christmas special was awful. The child's meal. Discussing spaghetti and tomato sauce just looked like tinned throughly disappointed. Never going back

This was a family owned business up to a few weeks ago and now its owned by Daniel Thawaites, it's a well run place, beautiful and full of character, the management and staff are brilliant, it incorporates main building and annex and manor house all providing just short of 40 rooms, I fell in love with this place, has a great outdoor area, I well liked my visit there, surrounded by beautiful countryside and has a large river in the village too, it does have a great following, I overheard, at 7pm it gets fully booked, enjoy, by the way it as a very old wooden propeller fastened to a beam near to the bar, must be over hundred years old.

Incredible food and amazing service! They have just been taken over by thwaites and it hasn't led to any less of the fantastic service you were used to before. Location is unreal, amazing stay!

Just had the most lovely overnight stay at the Red Lion, we arrived very wet and dirty after our walk, to find the new owner, Peter and his staff incredibly welcoming and helpful, despite it being their first day in charge and having to cope with a power cut. Nothing was too much trouble, including cooking rice for our dog who had become a bit poorly, what can I say, totally above and beyond!

The room itself was fantastic, lovely en suite with bath and spacious shower, lots of thoughtful extras, towelling dressing gowns, toiletries and tea/coffee making facilities. Our evening meal was amazing and the breakfast was also great as was the service throughout. Would definitely recommend Thanks again to Peter and his staff

Don't stay in the Manor house. When they say compact rooms they're not kidding. Good job I didn't bring my cat as there would have been nowhere to swing it! En suite was no bigger than a large wardrobe. It did have everything you needed though, coffee, tea, etc so didn't stint on amenities. Breakfasts were excellent and choice of beers good. All staff very friendly and helpful. Would go back but book a room in the main building.
