Firstly, I have already told the owner, Nes, that I was really unhappy with my stay & he did give me a small refund on my stay. I stayed in a single room at the top of the building. I understood that my room was probably one of the cheaper rooms, but I honestly expected a lot more. Everything in my room was old, cheap and battered. Scratches/marks all over the walls and furniture, marks on the bed linen and towels.
The mattress was one of the worst I've ever slept on, rock hard and lumpy hard pillows. The whole building and room moves when traffic goes past, the doors aren't sealed, just very basic so all the noise from the hallway comes straight into the room. The room also had a really awful smell when I went in so I had to open the door to the hallway and all the windows for several hours until the room was properly aired.
A little bit of a concern when proper cleaning & airing is supposed to be in place due to covid. Everything in the bathroom was again old and cheaply done. Everything had huge signs of wear and tear and looked very tired and old fashioned. Things like the lamp which looked like it had been stood on, mirrors with scratches and paint coming away etc could easily be replaced but it looks like everything is an after thought and done as cheaply as possible.
The rooms are also tiny so anything more than one night wouldn't have been unbearable. I found the whole experience such a shame as I booked it based on all the great reviews, the house looks great from the outside and the entrance, but the room was so awful! I was grateful for the owner helping me carry my luggage up the stairs, but I felt it was inappropriate for him to enter my room and I felt uncomfortable with him being in there. He obviously is a harmless person, but he can come across quite overwhelming by the way he speaks and acts.

Highly Recommend! Fantastic place to stay, very close to oxford with a lot of restaurants within walking distance and plenty of buses to get into the city centre. Hotel is very clean and tidy, great breakfast too. But the best thing about this hotel is definitely staff member, Nes. I have never been to a hotel with such helpful, polite and happy staff. Would happily stay here again.

Wonderful care and attention to detail. Delicious breakfasts. Nes makes you feel at home and can't do enough to make your visit the best possible. Excellent location for easy travel into Oxford city center, Blenheim Palace, and other surrounding areas. We will be back! Highly recommend The Burlington House Hotel. You won't be disappointed.
