The Hand at Llanarmon is an ancient hostelry with all the attributes you'd expect - bags of character, a cosy, relaxing ambience and a warm welcome from your hosts, Jonathan and Jackie Greatorex. As soon as you arrive you feel the weight of the world dissolving as the surroundings work their magic. All the classic ingredients are here - old beams, roaring fireplaces, a casual mix-and-match of pine and oak furniture, real ale and good food.
The latter is seriously good. Thanks to the talents of Head Chef Grant Mulholland and his team, The Hand is renowned for award-winning food; an inventive marriage of country fare and sophisticated metropolitan cuisine.

In a good location and really impressive when you walk in with leather Winchester chairs. The reception staff are friendly and polite. The rooms and the rest of the hotel is very dated and not in a good way. To get into the room you need a key but we struggled only to be told the door knobs don't turn just push, so from a security point it may confused people and I'm sure many people have been locked out of their rooms.
The beds are small and the mattresses need changing. Not enough sockets to charge in the room. The rooms are really small but there is a massive bathroom, weird. The TV well wasn't even worth switching on it was so small. The dirty brown carpets need deep cleaning or changing. Breakfast was a buffet style not to my liking. Cold tomato slices, undercooked bacon, burnt toast and weak coffee some little improvements would make this place great. The riverside seating and the bar area make this place a great find pity it is let down by the rooms and food.

Great hotel in the heart of Llangollen. The hotel is steeped in history dating back to the 1600's. The rooms are a mix of old meets new. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The view of Dinas Bran from our room was incredible. WiFi wasn't great if I'm honest. Staff were friendly throughout. I found the restaurant/catering staff were slight understaffed. Food was good and well priced. Hotel location is perfect.

Staff were lovely and helpful. Unfortunately the meal i had on the first night was very poor. I felt as if it was an 'anything will do' slapped on a plate. Pie was tasteless chips were reheated. The room was clean but the bed was not comfortable and the shower was not good. Very quiet hotel and the music was tasteful

Overall? Not a nice experience unfortunately, given what happened the last evening. To start with the positives, Denise was quite pleasant & very helpful at check in. Bar & Restaurant staff were very pleasant. Housekeeper was courteous & kept the room in tip top condition. Plenty towels, toileteries, coffee, tea, & sugar. The bed was quite comfortable.
But reception staff did not seem bothered to help. I felt that I wasn't welcome. Locals & Regulars seemed to be more valued. That really spoiled my overall feeling, which is quite sad. I really liked Llangollen as a place for our next big Do. There were 2 dozen of us this visit, & a possible 5 Dozen+ on our next Do. But sadly enough I was put off after an incident which left me feeling that I was a no body.
Eventually there was an attempt to put things right, & I appteciated that. But it was too little too late - after my whole mood was spoiled. Another disappointment was when we made the booking a few months ago. We intended to book Dinner for the 2 nights our Group was staying there. But I was told that we could not be accommodated. It was hard work hunting around to book restaurants for our Evening Meals.
But we did succeed. Had it not been for a dry attitude of some Reception staff and or management, I would have given a 5 Star Rating. I've been to 35 countries, & I never had such a treatment from some reception staff. The location was ideal. Great views from a lovely stepped Terrace overlooking the river. Parasols, outdoor Heaters, as well as accessibility to local Pubs & Restaurants.
The last evening's incident could have easily been handled promptly, professionally, & satisfactorily. But I did not feel that the Hotel's priorities were set right. Very sad indeed.

Awesome place, had a bit of a time out here, they are building a self sufficient patio bar opposite the hotel which I expect to be opened shortly. Hotel bar is great with excellent service, managed to talk to one of the managers who was very knowledgeable and helpful. The guiness with the phone was to prove to Louise I only had a half instead of a pint I did manage to get another half later Another Highly Reccomended place to visit or stay
