This is a small hotel that we went for a meal At. An accidental find by some friends and as it's only about half an hour from us we will be back (I suspect alot). The hotel grounds are lovely and well looked after. It sits above the estuary leading out to Barmouth. Up on the hill side this is literally a hidden gem surrounded by lush green hills. Only a small building with not many rooms and a few tables in the restaurant but what a great experience and lovely food.
This would make a great place to stay to explore Harlech, Barmouth, Dolgellau, Snowdonia (cadair idris is just very close) The staff we met were friendly and welcoming and did an amazing of job of being there when needed but not intrusive at anytime. The hotel is under new management and we found out that they had been reopened for less than a week.
The meal cost was reasonable for what it was and the food around the table got nothing but high praise. Even the coffee was well made, although espresso cups for a filter coffee was a little unusual. Hardly an issue and I like my coffee by the bucket usually so that's a me problem. I look forward to many more visits and maybe an occasional overnight stay to make the most of that part of a beautiful country.

I spoke to a young lady and booked a table for 6 as a 60th birthday meal, luckily one of our guests called to ask the hotel if they could recommend a taxi company in the area. He was told that the restaurant was closed on that day. I called as I thought there was some confusion. Not the case, they were closed and my booking did not exist. If you book, I'd make a point of re confirming prior to the event. Not impressed.

If you travel with a dog I would look elsewhere. At time of booking were not aware of the dog rules. E mailed prior to arrival. Essentially dogs allowed in entrance hall and your room accessed via a tradesman door of the hotel. As a result cannot enjoy any facilities. Such a disappointment and at this price point expectations are set high.

We visited in February 2020 to celebrate a special event for my sister. My 2 sisters had visited last year and really enjoyed their stay so we decided the 4 of us visit. Our visit was for 2 nights and dinner was included the first night. The hotel itself is lovely, very clean and comfy in beautiful surroundings. We arrived and rang the bell, staff offered to help bring your luggage into the hotel and thats about it.
There was no offer to take bags to your rooms despite there being 2 floors. There is a manager called Mark who was abrupt to the point of rudeness. I told him the heating did not kick in until 7.30am in the morning, he said that could not be right and I assured him it was as it was the cold that woke me up, it was only after a member of staff interjected that there had been a power cut earlier in the week and that may have caused the issue did he take note.
There was no apology expressed at all. Our TVs did not work during our stay at all. One of our rooms, nothing in terms of teas, coffees was replaced, my room did have some tea replaced. My impression is that if you want anything, you have to ask, the hotel is not forthcoming to provide anything. Our dinner on the first night was ok, the portion sizes are tiny and luckily we brought snacks for the evening.
The hotel is quite remote and you have you go up a windy narrow path to the hotel. There is no lighting outside at night time, it was pitch black and as a result we decided to have a meal in the hotel the second night despite the cost being 30 each for 2 small courses. We asked one of the ladies called Di what was on the menu, she said "how do I know, Ive just walked in", she made no effort to find out.
She was probably the most miserable of the staff there. She really should not be in the hospitality industry given her unhelpful demeanour. We all decided to have soup and the bread rolls were brought out. They were rock hard, we sent them back. They came back as burnt and then finally frozen in the middle. I had asked for fish and when it arrived it was raw and bloody in the middle.
Rather than cause a fuss in front of the other diners, I went into the kitchen to show the chef - what a rude patronising individual he was, he said I didn't know what I was talking about, the bread rolls are meant to be crunchy, the fish suffers distress and its usual to see blood! what claptrap! As he was talking his voice got louder, I then left the kitchen and we did not eat our meal and returned to our rooms.
To be fair Lorraine, the owner, called to apologise and offer sandwiches which we declined as we had no appetite left. Our stay cost 750 for 4 for 2 nights so not cheap so it made us chuckle in amazement when we were presented with a bill for 16 for 3 tonic waters, an orange juice and a grapefruit juice! All in all, despite the beautiful surroundings, we left massively disappointed.

Unfortunately we have booked a night to stay and due to the fuel shortages are unable to travel there. After calling and explaining our situation we are asking if we could defer our reservation to later or we would lose our deposit. Well, first the ignorance. Total refusal to accept a nationwide issue with fuel apparently doesn't exist. So the. answer from the hotel was we lose the total amount for the stay.
It gets better, the terms and conditions allow for cancellation before 36 hours you could use your deposit for a future booking however according to the hotel the formatting on my laptop is wrong as this is supposed to be indented and is related to dinner bookings only, really? My.

Beautiful small country house hotel, exceptionally well kept and oozing character in the public areas. Fantastic food and attentive service, the only slight negative is that the bedrooms/ bathrooms are slightly dated (though very clean and well maintained). The grounds are lovely too. I would go back.

My wife and I went for a luxury afternoon tea to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We have visited many venues for these so have a fair idea what to expect. The location here is beautiful, the hall is very stately, but that is pretty much where the good points end. The lady who met us was quite unprofessional and, to be honest, quite rude. The lady who served us was much better.
This was a luxury afternoon tea, and when it arrived we were both somewhat underwhelmed. The sandwiches were ok, the scones were nice and fresh, but the cakes were awful. It was as though someone had nipped to the corner shop and bought the cheapest they had. Sorry, not good enough. The Tea didn't match up to the surroundings.
