This hidden treasure is set in 18 acres of formal gardens and woodland with the dramatic backdrop of Skiddaw and the Uldale Fells. The hotel offers the perfect base for a truly relaxing holiday in the peaceful surroundings of the undiscovered northern Lake District. Your hosts, Stephen Bore, and Angela and Adrian Hyde, bought this magnificent Grade 2 listed Georgian country house in 1992, and have spent the past 25 years lovingly refurbishing it, paying great attention to detail, and successfully preserving the historic ambience of the house with a clever mix of traditional and contemporary style.
Services
Owners and hosts, Stephen, Angela and Adrian, have created a luxurious hotel here in the northern Lake District, and their emphasis on personal service and wonderful attention to detail makes this house a home from home that lures their guests back time after time. Set in 18 acres of gardens and nursery woodland, Overwater Hall is a fine example of an elegant and authentic Country House Hotel.
Your hosts, Adrian, Angela and Stephen met at the University of Surrey in the 1980's where they studied Hotel & Catering Administration. On graduating, Adrian worked as a General Manager for the outside catering firm, Kennedy Brookes; Angela as Front of House Manager, firstly for Crest Hotels, then at the London Tara Hotel; and Stephen as Food & Beverage Manager with Crest Hotels, before working for Rank Hovis McDougall.
Dog owners will be delighted to know that well-behaved dogs are genuinely welcome to stay at Overwater Hall at no extra charge. Dogs are welcome in bedrooms and in one of the hotel's lounges and bar - no dogs on chairs, though, please! Cumbria is a walker's paradise at any time of the year, with its spectacular scenery, fells, lakes and gardens, and for all of these reasons, your dog will love it, too. And there is no reason to even venture beyond the grounds of the hotel with its 18 acres, including our lovely woodland boardwalk.
The local area, the Lake District, has always drawn people for holidays: its lakes, hills and mountains appealing to walkers and climbers; its rich heritage of interest to many, from stately homes and castles to Roman forts and prehistoric stone circles; and its beauty an inspiration to all, whatever the weather.

This amazing hotel is tucked away near Bassenthwaite. Great location with gardens all around. Only a dozen rooms so feels very special and the owners do an amazing job of making you feel really welcome. Rooms are full of character, large with huge bathrooms and beds. The food is on another level, cannot recommend highly enough. The chef can adapt most dishes to be gluten free too and it's a real treat for anyone in the area. Cannot recommend enough.

We did not stay at this hotel, but visit whenever we come to Cumbria it is on the top of my Itinerary to Visit!. The Service and food is fine dining at it's best. Mix that with a beautiful location! Some one will open the door for you and welcome you in to the drawing room for pre dinner drinks and a chance to sit by the fire and to peruse the wine and food menu.

A small plate of Amuse-Bouch is brought and from, that moment you know, that your palate is in for a real treat! I could go on, but I always enjoy Overwater Hotel and would highly recommend it!.my food in picture attached.just a snippet of the menu!

Overwater Hall is our new favourite dining location in the north lakes. Tried so many and this beats the Michelin guides top rated and AAs in the area. Food was amazing. You know exactly what your eating and there's no weird foam or pointless things. It's just flavour and nourishment and beautifully presented. Loved the ambience of the place too and the service.

When you arrive you get the door opened for you, a welcome and led to the lounge for drinks and amuse bouche and then to the dining room. And then after retire to the lounge again for coffee and Petit fours. The staff and owners clearly take pride in what they offer and so they should. It's a true gem.

Overwater Hall Hotel is simply a very special place. I can't help but relax from the moment we turn into the driveway. This is a place to come when your mind and body need nourishing. From the comfort of the furniture (you really can curl up in a chair and read all day while someone brings you trays of tea, coffee, lunchtime sandwiches) to the celebration of the evening meals - outstanding cuisine, beautifully presented and served by such lovely people.

This is a little oasis from which you can recover from 'life' and then use as a base to adventure in Cumbria's beautiful countryside. Dogs are welcome. Humans are cosseted! Can't recommend highly enough

Lovely hotel in beautiful surroundings. When I visited masses of snowdrops out. Enjoyed a wonderful afternoon tea watching birds at a feeder and a red squirrel came to feed.

Our favourite hotel. Always a wonderful stay with individual rooms, huge bathrooms, fabulous and beautifully presented food, and the owners and all the staff are lovely. Almost like going to a private country house, not a soulless chain and no reception desk. Love it.
