Not a pleasant stay. Great hospitality from a lovely lady who was so helpful is the only reason I gave 2 stars. I have booked a family room for 2 adults and 2 children and I got 2 separate room instead. Room's corner had spider web. I found empty box of fried chicken under the bed. And lots of hair on the floor. Seems not to be hovered or cleaned when previous guest has left.

Clean, comfortable hotel with onsite parking. Cons: - No lift, and we got a room on the third floor - Beds are adequate, not the most comfortable - Water pressure is weak, adjusting the water temperature requires a fine touch - No TV signal - Wifi is sporadic Pros: - large, clean bathroom - large room - friendly reception - free parking

Ive stopped in a lot of hotels up and down the country over the last 13 years, this is the 2nd worst of them all. I checked out the morning after I checked (only the 2nd time i have ever done this) in because of the walls being paper thin, I could have joined in with next doors conversation. There was a 10mm gap at the bottom of my door letting light in from the hall, the floorboards outside my room were creaky (more noise), the window seal was faulty (a cold draft and more noise) luckily I had a small van heater in the van that I had brought with me. Poor water pressure in the shower and the water was lukewarm at its hottest setting

This place is in dire need of updating. The hotel has a tired, old feel to it and an unusual smell that I couldn't quite put my finger on what it was. The double room I stayed in was spacious enough but the floor having obviously been hoovered was still dirty. The bed was well used and soft as a result and had black tape all over it. One of the pillows was dirty and supplied kettle had rust and limescale in it.
On several occasions there was no front of house staff on hand and had to leave my room key on the front counter. Security?! I would suggest that a lot of effort needs to go onto this place as it is reminiscent of a decidedly average hotel from 1970 I feel that they are being over ambitious with their room rates as you can stay in a lot nicer & cleaner places for less!

I used to work here a while ago now before I moved to London for studies and I loved working here. Margaret was amazing as a boss and although I didn't stay here in one of the rooms I was the regular bartender, did some night porter work and also the occasional receptionist shift. All I can say is I enjoyed my time here a lot. Hope to pay a visit soon and see if Margaret is still there. Its the perfect hotel to stay in as it's very central in the town.

Starters were very basic and clearly pre prepared and waiting to be brought out. Mains were OK with plenty of food. Desserts were amazing. What makes this place great is A) the price and B) the lady host. I believe her name is Jannet. This lady is a shear pleasure and makes the whole dinning experience.

I have been coming to this hotel for a number of years and have looked past the fact that they've under invested in the furnishings, its a little tired and have staff rotating between bar, reception and food service. In fact I could pull scorn on the hotel but for 60-70 a night has been suffice, the breakfast has always been good and the staff pleasant.
However my experience on the 13th/14th November was awful. The customer service was below par but what has disappointed me most on this visit was the absence of heating, hot water and a cooked breakfast. Due to a gas leak which was simply explained as one of those things meant the hotel was condemned to the elements for the night. Before bed I requested a discount at which point it was said that this would be applied in the morning despite having limited time to leave and get to work.
I went to bed in a room with a disconcerting smell and woke up to a cold shower. In form typical to this hotel I waited for someone to see that I was waiting for some breakfast, for which I was offered toast and microwaved beans and/or eggs. On being delivered breakfast I asked what discount would be applied and was made a derisory offer of 15! Which I was sharply informed would need to be done at reception. 65 for a cold hotel and an incomplete breakfast. I was so astounded I just left the hotel. I have never been compelled to leave a message or review in a negative light, however this hotel is beyond salvation.

Room was awful, carpet very old, dust behind wall lights, bathroom with mold around the edges. Staff not friendly at all. I asked for a glass to take to my room. answer I get. We not allowed to give guests to take to their rooms. You have to be back by midnight or you can't get back into the hotel. Bed was small double metal frame. In the morning I could not have a shower because of mold around edges. Went for a breakfast and no one there.
Just two jugs of apple and orange juice on counter. Had to wait at least 5 minutes for someone to come and take the order. I had full English breakfast and only food was good, but nothing else. I paid 80 pounds for a nightmare. Very disappointed.
