Attended for the carvery. Not a good experience. Took 8 of us out for Father's Day. Firstly the Mill restaurant room was dirty and the tables and decor are dated. Service was atrocious, no one to clear plates from the table and took at least 10 mins before anyone came near us to take drinks order. Was left standing about for 10 mins at end to pay my bill.

Food was really poor quality. No options for gluten free for either alcoholic drinks or food. Limited to 2 selection of meats and not great choice of veg. Starters were terrible especially for kids. For a resort and spa which is 4 stars and for 35 per person per head, this was a complete let down. Really poor customer experience. Will never be back.

After being here 2 & a half years ago, i loved the place, , but what a turn around of the worst kind. Upon arrival our room was filthy, dust everywhere, the floors were dirty to. I rang to reception to complain, got a new room which wasn't much better. The wifi was awful to, kept in cutting out. The woman at reception seemed a bit narky to. This is our 1st time away since the very 1st lockdown, so cleanliness was very important.

I'm not a very fussy person, but for 4 star & 'deluxe' room the place is a rip off. Paid 300 for 2 nights for 2 adults & a child. No fresh towels were offered on our 2nd day, we had to ring for them. The rooms are very poor, needs major revamp. The lobby of the hotel is probably the most modern part. The leisure facilities were appalling to, the place was so dirty & lots of broken things like the shower beside the steam room that is always handy for getting a cold shower after each steam.

The steam room was very smelly with lots of dirt marks. One of the showers broke as my girlfriend was using it, the pipe was spraying hot water all over her & the child. Our room key card kept on stopping working, lucky enough my girlfriend was in our ro when i kept going out for a smoke, because there's nobody at reception at night, so i wouldn't know how to get that sorted out. Came 90 miles to be here, but will be glad to be away from the place.

Very overpriced, understaffed, dirty & outdated hotel. The highlight of our stay was breakfast, it was nice & the lady serving couldn't have done enough for us & the child. Defo won't be back near the place again, how it gets 4 stars i do not know! Most budget hotels would put this to shame.

Attended a wedding here. I was part of the wedding party and had paid 150 for a family room. There were signs up all over the hotel that guests can't have their drinks in their rooms. While going to my car to get a charger the director (I later found out) was staring at me which was really unnerving. I watched him chase (around the car park) and shout at guests if he thought they had brought their own alcohol.

I have attended many weddings and ive never seen this behaviour. At 14 for 2 pints and a coke and 12.50 for a double with lemonade I don't blame them! Staff were rude and ignorant when I asked for milk for my babies bottle as there is no fridge in the room. The food was bad, sitting for a long time and veg were solid and not cooked. Putting country club on the name doesn't make it so. appalling behaviour, bad hotel, overpriced.

The La Mon is in the perfect setting, nestled in the Co Down countryside but close to Belfast and Co Down towns. The bedrooms are modern and comfortable and quiet. The afternoon tea is very good and tasty and breakfast was also good. The country club is lovely place to chill out. The big plus for the La Mon are the staff who were very professional but also friendly and very helpful. Definitely recommend.

Can't understand some previous comments. The hotel & staff were absolutely great. We had a family reunion & the staff couldn't have done more to make our stay any better. Lovely food, atmosphere & facilities.

The bar staff were under trained. Couldn't make cocktails or get me a pint of Guinness and that was from either of the bars. The management would need to train staff to a better standard. Although the staff were good and pleasent. I don't think the hotel deserves a 5 star rating. The hotel would need a good revamp. The noise after 11 was ridiculous. I've stayed in much better accommodation for alot less money.

Paid extra for a 'deluxe' room, the only thing deluxe was the price. The room was absolutely filthy, it looked like dried in vomit on the bath, the bathroom door was sticky and there was a white power on one of the sills which hadn't been cleaned up. Plus the cobwebs and filthy carpet. Also asked for a quiet room, we were given a room right beside a lift.

Not entirely the hotel's fault, but a stack of kids used the corridor as a 'party spot', running screaming and shouting up and down. No way is this a 4 star hotel. The exterior was decorated lovely for Easter, but the rooms are a huge disappointment. If this was deluxe, I would hate to see the 'bog standard'. Food in the restaurant was mediocre at best, charged full amount for a child's 2 course meal, despite the fact he only had one course. Massive disappointment, will not be back.

La Mon Hotel and country club was a great visit for a wedding I attended, regardless of the wedding the outside parking facilities were great. I could have brought my Camper van to sleep the night off after wedding but alas I got the bus there and home that was laid on for us. Anyhow I must say the venue is very eye catching as you arrive. Lovely entrances and lovely grounds also.

Once inside it's a mixture of modern contemporary hotel experience yet felt very homely in its atmosphere. I'm not sure how much the wedding had to do with the whole experience of the place but regardless I loved the place as we entered it. But as the day went on I realized that the bar areas were very small and the queues got longer and waiting time to get service was poor. The staff though we're friendly enough. They were under pressure to accommodate the patrons but we're not very motivated. All in all it was a reasonable experience.

We went for a afternoon lunch, I asked for Fish and chips with sweetcorn instead of mushie peas. When it arrived the fish was OK the chips I've had better in McDonald's, the sweetcorn was straight from the Fridge. Very cold in a jelly sauce. The wife's asked for a Ham sandwich, it arrived, two halves that were about 4" thick. We've never seen bread so thick " anywhere" She couldn't eat it, this was left on the plate. Paid the bill at the bar, I told yer man about the meal, he couldn't care. 48 Paid. 2 / 10.

While our room was changed to accommodate my friend that was prob the only positive we could say. On arrival we decided to use spa while waiting on our room. The pool was freezing(I do open sea swimming so that's saying something). The jacuzzi steps were very steep & extremely hard to master even for myself who is quite fit & extremely mobile. My friend unfortunately slipped while getting out hurting her knee & no one even came over to assist or see if she was OK.restaurant staff abrupt when ordering evening meal.

My meal was could & bull the chicken was slightly pink at 1 end & both meats were cold. When asked if everything was OK I said no & explained why all I got as a response was ' oh sorry to hear that' perhaps had the person been a little more pleasant I wouldn't have even bothered with writing this. I was so looking forward to this trip as it was a gift from my friend for my birthday.

I hated complaining as she had gone to the effort of surprising with this. I will not be staying here again. Had staff been more responsive to our complaints it may have changed my opinion

Stayed here last night for boxing day. No entertainment because of covid apparently but everyone was running around drunk with no masks. We then put music on in our room as we were bored, and it was low, we got a knock at the door to turn it down. 200 for a nights stay and we were all bored. We also paid 35 for a dinner which wasn't bad but it har been lying for a while so the likes of the potatoes were dry and hard. 15 for kids and all you could get was chips and chicken nuggets, that's a rip off.

Quite bad afternoon tea experience. Our booking was canceled and moved last minute without giving us the chance to book anywhere else. On the actual dining date the staff was quite unorganized, our daughter was served an hot chocolate different from the one on the menu, then grossly adjusted with butter-solid whipped cream, then again replaced with a new drink.

Also there were no marshmallows in her drink and after having noted this to the waiter we were told they'd run out. Average quality food with some good pieces and some very bad ones: - Tasteless shortcrust pastry - dry paninis with no sauce at all (not even butter) - Dry Christmas cake - Staple choux and puff pastry.

Stayed for one night. We had to change room due to the mould in one corner of the room and the cobweb with about 15 fruit flies in it, a full hedge a foot from window blocked out any view. The next room was lovely but it was very uncomfortable position to be placed in in the first place. We will not book here again.

Santa Carvery a total shamble from we entered the hotel until we left. Booked for 4 adults and 2 infants including a baby 10 months old. Attended yesterday for the 4 pm sitting. We queued to get into reception when we eventually spoke to a receptionist said just to through them 2 doors and you will see the dining room! Would have been handy if you had of placed a sign post outside letting know that you could have went through a separate entrance to gain access - especially with COVID restrictions - worthy of note at no stage where we ask for our COVID passports.

When we entered the dining room there was no one to great us - we stood about for several minutes hoping that two of the senior members of staff would have approached us - but no. We spoke to a young member of staff and she approached the senior staff who checked a list and she then showed us to our table. We asked for a high chair which she kindly got us and then proceeded to walk away.

We asked her how did it operate to be told starters in the middle and the main meal is over there. No mention of kids food or drinks I asked how to obtain a drink and was advised that we could fill out a slip or go to the bar - for ease of reference I went to the bar to be told that they were extremely busy and just to fill out a slip - management need to get organised rather than standing talking and brief junior staff.

The food was terrible we went for starters mainly fish - which was full of bones. There was several egg mayo which had been well picked over and certainly wasn't appealing. There was two bowls with fresh fruit however they were almost empty with a few grapes, few pieces of apple and several melon balls - no floor staff ensuring that the food was refillled! Went for our main meal which was totally and utterly disappointing the vegetables were rough and ready the sprouts were tasteless.

The cream potatoes and roast potatoes were not fit for purpose and the gravy and cocktail sausages appeared to have been spiced with fennel. The stuffing was loose with a few cranberries. In fairness the roast beef was nice and the turkey was fine. The yorkshire puddings were soft and sticky you certainly would have cut them with a knife. The presentation was very poor.

Please note that the table was not cleared in between courses we had to clear our starter plates to another table ourselves. A good selection of puddings however the waitress needs to learn about presentation and not basically slap the food onto the plates and at one stage was going to use the same serving spoon for different selections. She had no clean utensils so she had to go to the kitchen to get clean ones and no one else there to help her!

No offer of tea or coffee meant to be 5 courses definitely not it was like a cattle market - LETS GETS A MUCH MONEY AS POSSIBLE AND DON'T CARE HOW WE TREAT PEOPLE OR THE SERVICE WE PROVIDE. Santa was horrible didn't interact with the kids and certainly didnt go round the tables walk around the floor with a sack over his shoulder stinking of stale smoke.

He walked past our table on at least 8 occasions and never stopped once on leaving the dining room we actually had to go to him to get a present - really great impression for a young child. The bouncy castle wasn't supervised and kids were allowed to run wild - for the price that was charged and the number of kids there you could certainly have had several bouncy castles for different age groups.

The two young girls doing face paints and balloons were pleasant. At one stage older children actually turned off the bouncy castle and let it collapse the young girl from the face painting actually managed the situation very well - however for up to 40 to 50 kids to be in the room and only two members of staff and no supervisory staff wasn't acceptable!

It is also worthy of note that during our 60 mins in the restaurant at no stage was the utensils at the kids food bar or the starters changed by staff - surely with COVID these should have been replaced regularly. NOT RECOMMENDED AT ALL

I little disappointed, no enforcement of covid measures especially when people where sharing ladles etc. Incorrect table settings for a large party. We had to keep asking continually for the basics like cutlery etc. Then put people outside the party very close to us so they were being disturbed every time we got up. The selection of food was not good and for the price was extremely basic. Deserts were terrible! Service was the best they could do as clearly understaffed but so is everywhere at this time.

Definitely not what I would expect of a 4-star hotel. Really disappointed with our visit last weekend. In advance of our stay I was sent 4 separate emails detailing covid rules, yet not once was it referenced at check-in. Found staff to be unwelcoming and severely lacking in customer service skills, the restaurant overpriced for food that was mediocre and the bar area put me in mind of a school cafeteria.

The positives were the room which was cosy and clean (although my 10 year old was given a camp bed, despite the cost of a one night stay in a family room), and the pool area which the kids loved. Sorry to say, I don't think I'll be back.

Staff were lovely and food was very nice. Had booked an early check-in (for an extra 50) only to arrive and find no room ready, or any record of my request, so ended up not been able to check-in until after the event I was attending. Then when I finally got to the room the carpet was dirty and one of the light fittings didn't work. Doesn't come close to 4 star standard in my opinion.

Attended the hotel for an entertainment event. Initial impressions of the hotel, the foyer is modern and luxurious. The receptionist seemed quite polite and, as we were early, directed us to the bar. The bar itself was a fairly standard hotel bar. Our first round, of 2 drinks, came to over 12! I was not given a receipt and assumed Lager was 4, spirits were 4 and mixers were 4.

This gave an initial poor impression. On the next round, skipping the mixer, a Lager and spirit were a more reasonable 7 approx. Given the receipt from this round, either mixers are close to 6, or the first bartender ripped us off. The lager on tap tasted a bit off, despite being a triple filtered "ice" draught variety. The time came to enter the entertainments room.

A complimentary glass of wine was provided as was a bottle of refreshing Perry on the table. Some tables though, including that next to us, had to request a bottle as they were not provided with one. Other tables seemed to have between 2-4 bottles. We assumed it must have been how nicely they could speak to the managerial staff. A buffet was provided as part of the ticket.

We were hoping for greatness from a 4* hotel, and having salivated over delicious looking meals coming out to the bar (and having partaken in a small bowl of chips at the bar as a pre-dinner snack). The buffet was however, a bit of a dissapointment. A bucket of boiled rice (cheap to make and filling), some mushroomy pasta in a white sauce, some mushroomy beef stroganoff and some chicken drumsticks all under heatlamps. Remindful of a poor canteen-style meal.

The nicest part of the buffet were in fact the roast potatoes! When a member of staff came round to collect the plates, he did ask if everything was to our satisfaction. As he appeared authoritative in a blazer (possibly mangerial?) I commented that the buffet wasn't great. This comment was ignored. Why ask if you don't give a damn? In fairness though, the meringue dessert was delicious.

Entertainment wise, the initial DJ was a bit cringeworthy and the place was like a wedding reception for somebody you didn't know. His banter and the party tunes worked better at the end of the night though, once the drink had been flowing! The band, a blues brother tribute act, were excellent. A nice mix of blues brothers tunes, blues and jazz.

All in all, would probably go back to see an act like that again. However, I would have dinner beforehand, would keep note of what I was being charged at the bar, and stick to the bottled beer / wine!

We were at a wedding party at La Mon earlier on this year. It is a four star hotel and country club, and was thoroughly looking forward to going, as I had never been before. The hotel was gorgeous and a prefect setting for the day, the staff spent a lot of time and effort making sure that the bridal party and guests were profesionally looked after throughout the day and night.

The food we had was the usual far you would expect at a wedding, chicken, potatoes, and veg, but it was of an exceptionally high standard and the silver service was extremely professional throughout. Vegetarians were also well catered for. As part of the wedding party, we got a reduced rate for staying overnight, so decided to take advantage. Our room was modern and spacious with lots of natural light, and had all the usual amenities such as TV, hairdryer, ensuite, and working table.

There is also free wifi. We didn't make full use of the country club, as we left quite early the next day, but they have a state of the art fitness suite, sauna, weights room, hair and beauty salon, tennis courts and pools. Wish I could have stayed longer!

La Mon is a very good local hotel that provides a lot of different services. Saying I am a local, I have never stayed in the rooms here, but I have used the gym and hotel conference facilities for attending wedding receptions here! The hotel was recently used as the host hotel for David Cameron's visit to Northern Ireland to solidify his rubbish electoral pact with a certain party over here.

This at least shows the levels of quality and professionalism shown here! The staff are great here, really attentive and willing to do the best for you to make your visit as good as possible. I know a lot of people who work here, as it is almost a Ballygowan rite of passage that you will work here at some point! Whilst they say the managers here are found of the whip rather than the carrot, this never shows through in the service received, which is excellent at all times.

The Sunday carvery here is delicious and reasonably priced at 19 for adults for a starter, main and dessert, and you can fill your plate with as much food as you want! There is also entertainment for the kids here to keep them happy which is always a plus! The gym facilities are top drawer here too with an excellent swimming pool and sauna, but it is very expensive, with a membership likely to sting you about 500 big ones, nice if you can afford it!

I have stayed in La Mon a number if times this year when attending work conferences and while it has been fine for that purpose, I don't think I would book to stay there for the weekend. There is nothing I would actually complain about, it's more that I like my hotel accommodation to be luxe all the way. La Mon is more of a traditional, functional place to stay than a luxury destination. Rooms are clean and perfectly adequate, just not the plush sort of accommodation I would prefer.

The food too is perfectly fine but not fine dining if that makes sense. The best part of the hotel is the Country Club, which is the gym and pool area. The pool really is lovely, quite Roman baths in style and there are also Jacuzzis, steam room and a sauna. I really enjoyed my visit there before dinner but couldn't fully relax in case one of my colleagues joined me. Can you imagine making small talk in the Jacuzzi with your boss? Ultimate cringe factor.
