The peaceful Square outside is access only for cars, but parking is easy with our hotel permit in the pay and display car park nearby. Our Bar is a popular meeting place for locals and visitors alike, with plenty to talk about over a pint of real ale.

Do you wish you could take your four-legged friend away with you on holiday from time to time? Often, a dog feels like a real part of the family, and leaving them in the kennels or with a relative just doesn't seem right when you're off on a trip! At The Kings Arms Hotel in Ambleside, we're happy to welcome your canine companions into our accommodation.
Stay on the A66 for approximately 12 miles then turn left onto the B5322 signposted Thirlmere. When you reach the A591 turn left towards Ambleside and continue for approximately 10 miles. At Clappersgate turn left onto the B5286 and follow this road for about 5 miles to Hawkshead. On arriving in the village, follow the signs for the main village (Pay & Display) car park and drive on into the square where you will find us.

I stayed at the Kings Arms in Hawkshead for 2 nights over a weekend with my wife. The pub offers good value for its rooms, especially given its location in the centre of the village. The rooms reflect the competitive price and are clean and functional. If I was to give bit of feedback it would be to replace the mattress and pillows, which were well past sensible replacement stage and just doing this would add a huge boost for a comfortable stay.
The pub itself is always busy with walkers and is very dog friendly. Food is served, although if you want an evening meal, book or get in early as it gets busy. We had a very warm welcome by all the staff working and they are very helpful and friendly. The location is perfect in the centre of the village and there are other pubs and cafe's with 2 minutes.
If I stayed again in Hawkshead I would probably try and get a slightly more expensive room elsewhere, with newer sleeping facilitates. If the Kings Arms refreshed its beds I would have no issues staying again.

Lovely old style welcoming pub with 4 great ales, generous food (have the pie!) and we booked a table easily enough just by booking a day in advance, you can just buy a beer and sit outside at the covered heated tables if you want. Definitely going there again. Made our stay in Hawkshead really fabulous. (unlike the rest of Hawkshead's pubs where we couldn't get in even for just for a quick pint! They only served pub guests apparently)

We've just got back from our stay here. Everything was excellent! Lovely staff, who worked hard to make sure we were taken care of and had everything we needed. The rooms are cosy, clean and tidy, the food and drink was delicious and our dogs, Dougal and Alfie were very grateful of the treats they were given. We can't wait to stay here next year! Thanks again for our lovely stay.

A very pretty pub in beautiful Hawkshead. Had lunch there and we were so disappointed. Cumberland sausage was not proper traditional Cumberland, just cheap pork sausage, lumpy mash and cold peas swimming in gravy, we felt 30 was very steep for such basic food. Staff also need to give their customers the odd smile too!

Managed to get a table outside but fully booked inside. Took our order, no issues. A small choice of food but seemed to accommodate most people. A nice little location in the square but didn't think much of the food unfortunately. Couldn't taste the food, just the oil it had been cooked in. Left half of it as I really couldn't eat anymore. Perhaps just a bad day judging on the reviews but I won't return.

Food expensive but appalling. Two meals for 30 and both went back virtually uneaten. Waitress asked how meal was but must have mistaken my 'pained grimace' for a smile as she didn't hang about for any comments. Thai green fish curry was full of new potatoes with a scattering of fish and prawn crackers must have been baked in the oven as they were brittle and hard and a bit of an odd colour. Haddock and salmon fishcake was like cardboard and have no flavour. Waste of money- most plates were going back mostly uneaten - hopefully they take note of that and learn from it

The cheesy fries on the menu outside, is what brought us inside, CURIOSITY. The small tavern/hotel was cozy and friendly. We weren't very hungry, so just had the Cheesy Chips. They were small potatoes, cut in pieces then probably (I'm guessing) oven-baked with white cheddar cheese melted on top. Quite delicious try with ketchup. The seating was rather low. The establishment also has rooms to rent. I think it would be a nice place to stay.

What a great little place! It's a pub, a restaurant, and a hotel all in one. I can't speak for the hotel portion (as they were already booked out when I tried to make reservations) but the bar was great. Bartenders Andy and Jamie were friendly and attentive. A great selection of beer - lots of local stuff to try which is awesome. At dinnertime we were greeted by the owner, Ed, who politely inquired about our experience at the Kings, which felt very welcoming.
The food came out quickly and was absolutely delicious - mushrooms stuffed with cheese, bacon, and walnuts preceded the lamb henry entree, and we left contentedly full and quite pleased with both the meal and the service. 10/10 would recommend to anyone visiting the Lake District area!
