My partner and i had booked into this establishment a few weeks ago. Unfortunately i caught covid. I am absolutely disgusted at the way we have been treated with regards to the full price that we paid I asked jamie the assistant manager if he could take the complaint to the managers. Politely he said he would, but after several phone calls we have heard nothing! Booking.com have also contacted the guest house too with no joy. Disgusting to say the least

Great location. Staff were on the whole pleasant and friendly. For what it was, it was pretty expensive. The interior decoration looks like it was already tired about 30 years ago. The whole place is in serious need of a refurbishment. Heating was fairly non-existant, so I ended up with a cold nose poking out of the duvet - reminded me of my last camping trip.
There was cold condensation running down the windows in the morning, reminiscent of a Victorian workhouse. Decent supply of warm water in the shower though. Not sure how a 'full English' doesn't offer beans. I asked for them, and the waiter said they would be added. They weren't. I've never come across a croissant so hard - I could have hammered a nail into the wall with it. However, once I'd crunched my way into it, it was surprisingly tasty. So overall, not a particularly recommended destination. York is full of hotels. I suspect most of them must be better than this.

We received a friendly welcome from the staff on duty when we arrived. Our room was clean and tidy with a good amount and selection of tea and coffee etc with some free toiletries left for us as well. The breakfast was good with a reasonable selection and the cooked breakfast was very enjoyable. We had a room with a shared bathroom which was also immaculately clean and tidy at all times. I would be happy to stay here again

These review's are great. I found my way here from an Old Rail magazine in the classified section from 1992. I've never stayed @ this hotel. It was then called the Holgate Bridge Hotel. and i quote the Ad " Friendly family supervised hotel. AA 2 Star. Private car park. Special Breaks. Close to city centre. Even closer to ECML. 10 minutes walk to National Railway Museum. " People complain that the walls are paper thin, The beds are squeaky, Light's don't work, It's old etc etc.
That classified ad is nearly 30 yrs old, so makes you wonder how old that place is and it's great it's still providing a service. In my book that deserves 5 star's and a salute.

While staff were lovely when you rang a mobile to check in and anything else you may want please phone this number the room was tiny had to over step our suitcase the wardrobe door would open after you had a fight with it the flat screen tv where there was a 14in computer monitor on the wall breakfast was OK could get better in a cafe and would have been nice to get fresh towels daily really nice glorified hostel unfortunately due to a family death we had to leave but told the guy who came to reception then sent and email to the place got no response what so ever. I would not recommend this a place to stay to anyone the water took about 20mins to heat up.

The worst place we've ever stayed in for a weekend away but was sadly the only place left. The loudest, squeakiest bed imaginable, like something out of a comedy sketch, which would erupt into a plethora of groans and squeaks if you so much as breathed whilst lying upon it. You have quite the dilemma of having the window closed and slowly roasting to death, or having the window open and being deafened by the busiest road in all of York outside.
Breakfast was also pretty poor, no beans or hash browns in a full English? Mental! The staff are friendly and kind but that positive is merely papering over the cracks (both literal and figurative) of this hotel. Won't be staying here again that's for sure

We were given the keys to our room only to find the room had not been cleaned after previous guests had left (this was to an extreme where sanitary pads, mouldy milk and dirty bed sheets were left). Furthermore, the SHARED bathroom door did not lock and after making the staff aware of this, they were poor in their attempts to resolve this major issue.
If this isn't bad enough, my friend had an awful experience at breakfast. she was given a completely raw sausage, undercooked eggs & the man serving the food had a dirty bandage on his thumb which touched the food on her plate. It was extremely hard to get in contact with the 'desk staff' and there were several other issues where staff were rude, unhelpful and targeting so I would definitely advise against staying here.

Arrived at the check in time to be told rooms not ready, which wasn't too bad but when we did manage to check in our bathroom light wasn't working. The bathroom had no window nor a light over the sink, therefore pitch black, reported to gentleman on reception who said would be sorted. Came back that night, still no light. Reported again at breakfast time, explaining this is second time. Went out for the day, came back at 4pm to change for dinner, still not fixed. Reported to reception again who then came on 3 request but was unable to fix it, electrician needed.
On checking out following morning, explained what had happened & was told the manager would call on Monday. On Thursday we received a call to say that 25 would be deducted for the inconvenience from the 250 bill! Needless to say we were not impressed & will not be returning or recommending
