Had a lovely weekend away at hedley for my wife's birthday, the hotel was a short walk from the train station and an even shorter walk into town. Room was fantastic and the bed was massive! Food in the hotel was excellent and the staff even more so! And I would recommend getting a massage as Emily worked wonders on my back! We will definitely be going back. Thanks for a pleasant stay guys.

From the moment we arrived the staff couldn't do enough for us, everyone was so friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. Greeted by smiling staff, the smell of home cooking and an immaculately clean hotel this place is just fabulous. We used the jacuzzi which was lovely with extra towels laid on for you, we had dinner there which was so fresh and beautiful as was breakfast. The only problem was we didn't stay long enough!

Lovely hotel. Everything is nice and clean. Our room was right at the top so not good if you have problems with stairs. All clean and tidy. Everything we needed, including iron and iron board plus hairdryer. Breakfast was hot and freshly made. Nice service. All staff were very friendly and nothing was any trouble to them.

The hotel has a really nice location which is convenient. The breakfast was amazing and the room was nice. Even when, according to the hotel owners, I paid a "lower price" than usual for the superior double room, I don't feel like that room should be more expensive than what I paid for 2 nights (189). At least the room I got was nice and the bathroom lovely but not THAT great for a higher price.
Bed was super comfy. Not sure if it's a British thing or a York thing or a "we will treat you differently because you got a good deal online and didn't pay what we want you to pay", but the owner was very unwelcoming both when I arrived and when I left, basically said three or four words "hi, ok you paid already, bye". I'm sorry but that's not the way to treat your guests if you want them to come back or recommend the hotel. These are the reasons why I'm giving it 3 stars only. Thanks.

We return here regularly, everything about it suits us well. Very close to the city walls, maybe a 3-5 minute walk? You can walk through the gardens into the city as well if you turn right out of the hotel. The staff are lovely, parking on site (extra fee), breakfast is great. Worth paying for a bigger room if you can. There's a hot tub in the garden (in a summerhouse) for guest use if you get a chance, I've never seen it really busy so plenty opportunities.
There's a lot of stairs so if this is a concern I'd call the hotel direct and see what the options are for ground floor accommodation (there is ground floor rooms). Our only issue last visit is the car park is over subscribed! We specifically booked the car park far in advance (as it's I think 12 per day) and I feel only the spots available should be rented out for those days.
People had to park in the middle of the car park for example, and I feel they must have known the car park was over booked since people pay/book a slot in advance. It should be declined if the car park is full. There is on road parking outside, I'm not sure how busy that gets.

Ideal location to York city center, only a 5 minute walk. Hotel very clean and staff are family. We liked the fact we had a room with 3 beds so our daughter could say with us, there was also a self catering kitchen area. The Jacuzzi was a added bonus. They also catered for my partner who's Gluten free, the breakfast was very good. We would definitely stay again. The only downside was we had to pay 12 a day for parking when the carpark is on the hotels property.

We had a great stay at Hedley House, the location was easy to walk to from the station, and we were given a very warm welcome on arrival. Easy 5 minute walk into York and the old walls. The room was great, spacious enough with a comfortable bed and a very large shower. The included breakfast provided a good choice of food and drinks. All the staff couldn't have been any friendlier, it was fantastic service.

Short version: Poor customer service, dismissive and arrogant management. Long version: After calling the hotel before our stay, it was explained that we wanted to be able to leave our car (ours and my wife's parents) at the hotel until 3pm the following day due to the booking being a gift for her elderly parents who find driving in York confusing.
This was an essential requirement, and the whole reason we called to check, and purposely booked this hotel over others. On check-out, we were told that we would have to move our cars by Greg (who it later emerged was the owner of the hotel) who was very dismissive and arrogant in his approach insisting that the telephone conversion didn't happen, and would never have happened.
We feel very aggrieved that they took our booking for 2 rooms on a false pretence, when this was an essential factor in our booking and clearly explained in our conversation beforehand, without any form of apology or sympathy.

I adore York, and i adore this hotel! In a perfect postion for all the wonderful attractions York has to offer, this family run hotel has everything we needed, included an outdoor jacuzzi! The rooms were well furnished and comfortable with a great en-suite. I hear they even have one room with a TV in the en-suite.must try that next time! Breakfasts are perfectly cooked with a great selction of cerals etc. and a nice choice for your cooked breakfast. A very handy car park kept our costs down and we cant wait to return! We definately recommend this hotel.
