The Grasmere Hotel is a delightful small Victorian Country House Hotel and Restaurant set in the heart of the English Lake District and on the edge of Grasmere Village in an acre of informal gardens through which the River Rothay flows. The hotel has been extensively refurbished in 2006. It still retains the character of an English country house while providing modern standards of comfort and a warm friendly atmosphere that has encouraged many guests to return again and again.

From the South: Leave the M6 at junction 36 and follow signs for Windermere, Ambleside, then Grasmere (and Keswick). Do not take the first turn left for Grasmere on the A591 at the mini roundabout but take the second turn left (opposite the Swan Hotel). Follow the road over the humped back bridge and past the playing fields on the left.

We have just returned home from this little gem. This is a family run Hotel with all the personal touches you would expect from 'hands on' owners. The welcoming lounge with roaring fires and elegant decor is the ideal place to relax and rewind with your favourite tipple. The food is top notch and the establishment is spotlessly clean. The Restaurant overlooks the lovely rear garden bathed in dappled sunlight. A private car park is always a plus too. We will definitely return as everything was simply perfect.

Just spent a night at this lovely hotel for dinner, b and b to celebrate my husband's birthday. Absolutely beautiful, immaculately clean, lovely cosy decor. A family run hotel and a credit to the owners. On arrival we had complimentary tea and coffee in the lounge. Our evening meal started with drinks and canapes served by an open fire. Beautiful meal and as a vegetarian I particularly appreciated the separate menu to choose from rather than the usual mushroom risotto stuck onto a standard menu.
The food was really good and well presented. There was even a birthday card for my husband on the table! Breakfast lovely, again with a full vegan menu. The little extra touches really make the difference. Will definitely be returning! Just to add the measures taken due to covid restrictions were all in place and we felt very safe.

There are many positive things to be said about this hotel. The building is quite attractive and the rooms are first rate. There is a lovely garden in back. Unfortunately, the staff suffers from an attitude that seems all too frequent when small hotels hold themselves out as providing "luxury" service: the service is quite good -- if one falls in with the way the staff likes things to be done. Our experience was that even the simplest special request was met with much eye rolling followed by grudging assistance. Not sure we would return.
