Our stay was very pleasant. Although I was and still am repulsed at the discovery of the heavily stained pillows and lack of pillow protectors. I dread to think of the bacteria I was exposed to. Not only are pillow protectors a standard for hygiene purposes but for allergies too, as they were down and duck feather pillows. The mattress was stained too.
Besides that our stay was wonderful. Staff were friendly, warm and eager to please. The hotel is a prime location, the valet parking was great considering the queues of traffic to public car parks. I just question how a hotel charging over 300 for a room can not provide pillow protectors.

Stayed for two nights as we were visiting friends. Found a good deal from Expedia which was not overpriced. Friendly and courteous staff. Good size room. Breakfast buffet was included. It was great, mushrooms, vegan sausages, the full English breakfast. Loved it. Couple of things though, it was very difficult to use the shower as water was dripping to the floor.
Some kind of draining system would be appreciated. Bathroom smelled like garlic for some reason. There were mold growing up the ceiling of the bathroom as well. Had troubles flushing the toilet, may be it's old? Room had no heating and we were freezing at night. Pillows were not comfy, they were just flat not fluffy.

We've been staying at The Grand Brighton for 20 + years and we still love it!. Attention to detail and the lovely friendly staff a great location and an iconic hotel. 5 star service. In a post covid world where poor service now seems rife The Grand stands proud. Thank you to everyone for making our stays so welcoming.

Just spent two nights celebrating a special birthday and we had the most magical time. We had room 619 which had a balcony and amazing sea view where we watched sunset with a delicious room service cocktail. We went with our two children and the room was large enough to accommodate us all with a sofa bed and extra bed. It was large and luxurious. We ate dinner in the Cyan restaurant which was lovely.
My boys thoroughly enjoyed the large buffet breakfast which as well as the usual fare had lovely extras like avocado and field mushrooms. The staff where so welcoming and friendly and service spot on. Room service was swift and we had an issue with the TV which was fixed by maintenance within 10 mins. The hotel was really busy and buzzing and the staff were still able to provide exceptional service.
Being a photographer I also loved the building which is full of history and the central staircase is spectacular. We are all buzzing from our stay and I would say booking a grand deluxe room with a sea view and balcony is definitely a bucket list experience.

We stayed at The Grand for four nights - and what a stay! The service was excellent throughout from reception at booking to the waiting staff at breakfast every morning. The room was spotlessly clean (and serviced every day whilst we were at breakfast). We were lucky enough to be upgraded and were met with complimentary chocolates and a bottle of wine in our room on arrival.
The daily breakfast had a great selection of vegan food and was a nice relaxed affair. We didn't have any other meals at the hotel as we wanted to sample other eateries in Brighton during our stay. On the whole we had a lovely relaxing time at this wonderfully historic hotel and will certainly be returning.

Visited here for a work event recently and we had an amazing room with balcony overlooking the old Pier. Very well appointed rooms with loads of space (ours had a walk in wardrobe). Although there wasn't room to park onsite, the concierge was very helpful and showed us the nearest car park. The bar was great and the cocktails delicious! A great hotel, centrally located.

Stayed here for my wife's birthday, really lovely personal touches and really attentive and personable staff. The vegan breakfast is the best I've ever had in a hotel. It's not cheap but considering the location and overall experience, it's worth it. There's quite a bit of occasion that comes with staying in a building of this age, and it certainly lives up to its name.

Stayed for 1 night for a break away just before Christmas. Unfortunately it did not live up at all to expectation. There was no information in the room regarding breakfast times and was not told at check in. The main issue for the 1 star review was there was no hot water in the evening. When booking a break away we always look forward to a nice relaxing bath before bed.
We tried the hot water and was barley Luke warm, we though we would wait an hour and try again. Still no hot water. We then called down to reception who advised they would get someone to look into it. Another hour later we still heard nothing a no hot water. We then went to reception and advised they was going to call but didn't because they didn't know if it was too late, they admitted there was a problem with the temperature as it had dropped but as we were on the first floor it would take time for the hot water to reach our floor.
Their proposed solution was to give us a key for another room so we could bath on a higher floor but then return to our room as would not be allowed to stay in that room. Advised this is not acceptable as who wants to get out of the bath and then travel around the hotel in a bath robe and towel. What we could not understand is if we was allowed to use a bath in another room why not just switch us to that room.
As surely it would need to be cleaned regardless if a new customer was to use it the next day. So we gave up and went to sleep with no bath or shower. Upon check out this morning, we told the receptionist who advised if she would like to get someone higher to speak to us. However it was Christmas Eve and we had a train to catch, so did not want to have to hang around for an unspecified time for someone to speak to us.
I understand things can go wrong, but they way the situation was dealt with was not resolved. And there were other rooms available as they were showing as bookable online. All in all Extremely disappointed and feeling left let down

The Grand is not what it once was it is run down and dated and at best a 2* hotel. The location is great but there are many other better options for the same price or less like The Hotel Du Vin or Malmaison. The rooms are shabby and in our balcony suite we were welcomed by an ashtray full of cigarette butts in what was supposedly a non smoking room.
The hotel is noisy at night from the street below and between the very intense smell of smoke and the lack of any air conditioning in their rooms it certainly wasn't an option for us to just keep the windows closed so not exactly ideal for a relaxing and restful weekend away. The most disappointing part of the whole experience for us was definitely the food.
I just cannot understand how any hotel let alone one charging what they do would ever let food go out like that and we were convinced the chef must of gone home sick and someone without any culinary skills was just asked to step in at the last minute. Gordon Ramsey would have a field day with them! During our short stay we had a series of unfortunate events which perhaps was just bad luck and of course sometimes can't be helped, mistakes do happen but it was more so how unprofessionally our complaints were handled by the management team that was the real issue.
One example of this was when the duty manager wasn't able to resolve our issues we asked to speak to the hotel manager and we were told that he was off on leave indefinitely and they didn't know when he would be back so that wouldn't be possible. Another was when we notified that same duty manager about the terrible quality of food that we were served for dinner and he said it was room service so it's not like it's going to be good like eating in the restaurant, as in what did we expect? Well a lot more for the prices they are charging honestly. If I could have given them 0* I would have. Extremely disappointing.

Having stayed in many 5 star hotels worldwide The Grand wasn't quite as expected. Our first room was extremely disappointing. Although one of the lower budget rooms we would still expect a basic standard of cleanliness. It was awful. However on contacting the Duty Manager he swiftly moved us to an upgraded room which was much better and had a sea view rather than a brick wall!
And that is how our stay continued re the staff - they were fab - most definitely 5 star all the way. Friendly, efficient and professional. Unfortunately its a bit of a tired old building and housekeeping not quite right. Would stay again because of the staff but not at full price.

Absolutely wonderful. We stayed 2 nights and they treated us all like royalty and our children too. Large 7th floor room with full frontal sea views. The Victoria restaurant was very special, as was breakfast. The Victoria bar was absolutely fantastic with wonderful cocktails. The staircase is amazing as is all the period decor. Opened in 1864 the Grand has a very interesting history. Wear your best clothes to fully complete the experience.

So far the best afternoon tea I had. Booked it as an experience for a friend that came to visit England. It didn't state on the website but once I booked I noticed I will only have 1h30 for the afternoon tea which seemed a bit short. I wrote and asked if it's possible to change it and they replied fast and accommodated to our needs. I appreciate that greatly as it meant we could enjoy the tea in peace without stressing about the time. The service was amazing and the room/lounge was very gorgeous. Definitely would recommend. Also the scones were top notch!

What a great name than the Grand Brighton, but that that grand at the end. The room was nice but way more tinier than expected, No sea view, which is such a pity in such an hotel. Historical place because of Thatcher obviously, I love the fact that the place is very old and rooms are typically made to remind you that it's an old building, but with a really high standing.
About that, I didn't had the chance to experiment the breakfast because I've had to leave the hotel quickly, but I was not really blown away by the bedroom. It was a bit moist, when you have a shower, you can feel the water in the room which is horrible, but the TV is big, such as the bed and I've had a good night. The welcoming part is quite usual, even if I've had a little fight about a booking for an event, but anyway.
Would love you to be more smily when you are welcoming someone, even if we're not English, I felt a bit of mistreated. Anyway, would come back if it was cheaper, because it's too expansive for the service.

Really great value for the price. For just over $100 USD we stayed in a lovely decently sized room with breakfast for 2. The location is central, maybe a 15 min walk from the train station, and the breakfast buffet was really great! Everything you could ask for including traditional English breakfast foods, pastries, fruits, yogurt, cereals, and more with fresh ingredients. Would definitely stay here again if we come back to Brighton.

I have bit of mixed emotions our our stay in there. The room was really nice with gorgeous view but after paying over 1000 for 3 nights the whole experience wasn't as luxury as we've expected to be. 1. The room wasn't ready at check in time.we had to wait for over 30 min at the bar and we weren't even offered a complimentary drink 2.
The bathroom ventilating system didn't work.causing any smell to linger there for hours 3. The bathroom curtain had a badly washed off big blood stain on it 4. There was an used diaper on our terrace (tbh i can understand that the cleaning stuff didn't notice it when cleaning the room, as it wasn't visible from inside) On top of everything the hotel's manager reaction, when we complained about our room was highly inappropriate. However other aspects of staying there were brilliant therefore I decided to give it 3 stars instead of 2.

So far, not so good.spectacular room but lousy service I checked in to The Grand this afternoon and, after a quick walk through the Avenues, stopped by the hotel bar for a cocktail. The hotel was finishing up afternoon tea, so the room was pretty full. I sat at an open table and a server came and took my order. While I was waiting, another server came and told me I had to leave because the table was "reserved" and "they are about to arrive".
There were no signs posted. She did not care that I was a hotel guest and made no provision for an alternate seat so I had to find a space at the bar (not my favorite). I got a delicious Bloody Mary then made my way up to the room (which is beautiful and has a stunning view). I freshened up then walked down to have an early supper. I walked into the dining room and asked for a table for one.
I was told the restaurant was closed for another 15 minutes. Since there were people in the restaurant, I asked if I could hang out until they opened and was told "No. Only in the bar" The Grand is a beautiful hotel situated across from the beach. It's a shame that the service leaves a lot to be desired.

MOLD AND MILDEW IN THE ROOM! Our room had a new bed and not so nice view of a brick wall (but hey you're not there to look out a window). When we opened the bathroom door there was a strong smell of mildew and there was mold in the shower. When we told the front desk, the man just shrugged and gave a half heart apology. The next morning a different person gave another half hearted apology and said they would look into it. I didn't pay a good amount of money to have a moldy hotel bathroom. Only reason for two stars is because of the location. Will not be returning there.

Shocking communication between Expedia and The Grand. There was a glitch on Expedia's website and I had to pay twice. I booked for the 21st and it booked me in for the day I made the reservation on the 14th. I didn't get a confirmation email. I've used these sites for donkey's years so know it wasn't me. I didn't sleep well either as I kept waking up in the night as it was noisy.
For the lol, here's an image of my view: http://postimg.org/image/8btfp4dtr/ If the link doesn't work, it was a brick wall, pipe and spikes! I didn't pay the extra 100 for a sea view, but I wasn't expecting that!

Stayed here with my family when they came from California to visit me. The hotel staff was very attentive and friendly. When I arrived, my bag was taken up to my room right out of my cab. We had two beautiful suites overlooking the sea. The beds were nice and the rooms were very classically and tastefully decorated. The morning breakfast was pleasant as well with all of the typical pastries, eggs, fruits, etc.; we left full from the buffet!
When it came to dinner and driver reservations, the concierge took care of everything for us which was wonderful. The bar had a pianist to accompany the delicious drinks, which is always a plus as well. Very nice staff and an absolutely gorgeous hotel!

Best place I've ever stayed. Just been for the weekend with my husband and two boys aged 14 & 11. We all had a great time. They enjoyed reading about the 1985 bomb from the thatcher days, and they liked to explore the hotel looking at it's fabulous ornate decor. We stayed in a king suite looking out over the sea with a large balcony, bed was really comfy like home from home beautiful crisp sheets. I'm used to a super-king at home so find it difficult to down size but this did not disappoint. Had afternoon tea and champagne delivered to the room well worth it lovely selection of cakes and sandwiches.
Breakfast has all the usual choice you expect at a hotel english, continental and plenty of cereal. Bar was also pleasant to sit and drink at I do enjoy people watching all those people so far up themselves. Hilarious! You can drink till very late not sure when last orders would be we stayed until 1.30 on the Friday and they still had a lot drinking. Would definitely return again loved. A little pricey but worth it. Try the Pavel indian up past the pier well worth a visit.

Unlike the majority of the reviews on here, I did actually stay here, as opposed to just visiting the bar, which to me in the better part of the place. The room was not a cheap proposition. Therefore, I was more than disappointed when I could not gain access to the room until two hours AFTER the advised check-in time. This was of course after being told that the hotel car park was full and having to find a parking space in that area on a busy Saturday. Things got worse.
I was playing a show next door at the Brighton centre and wanted to have some food before soundcheck. So I ordered up some bar snacks for myself and the singer. 45 minutes later, still no food, still no room available, so I cancelled the food and went to soundcheck. When I returned to the Grand, my room was FINALLY ready. Some things get better with the tension of the wait.
My room, on the other hand, was not one of those things. I was surprised at how small it was. There was barely enough room to walk between the bed and the furniture. There was no view from the windows, as they were both frosted glass, and even worse, only the bathroom window opened! Which, on a hot Easter bank holiday, made the room stuffy and too hot.
The floor boards creaked in most places, which was not such a worry for me, but must have driven my neighbours nuts when I was walking around at 3 a.m. when the after-show party wrapped up. On the plus side, the bed was comfortable and the sheets nice. The bathroom had a real touch of class, but the shower had a tendency to let water flood out all over the floor.
Breakfast was tasty, but it was truly chaos in the restaurant. The staff (bless 'em) seemed entirely overwhelmed. Which I would say is the main problem with my stay. I feel that it was the stingy management not employing enough staff to deal with a busy weekend. To give credit to the customer service, my bandmates and I were told upon departure that we should have let them know that we were a band playing next door and they would have given us special treatment. However, that to me is not really a fair solution for all of the other customers who can't play a song.
I would love to give the place another chance - I really enjoyed the elegance and 'grand' atmosphere. I just wish that the management would not be so tight with the amount on staff they utilise on busy weekends.

I've been to a couple of fantastic wedding receptions here and in the summer, we always pop in for a drink as they make the most amazing champagne cocktails. They're not cheap as you can imagine but if your feeling quite fluch and fancy treating yourself, its worth every penny. The surroundings are fantastic - really comfortable and the atmosphere makes you forget that in actual fact, you are completely skint! If you go in on a Saturday, try and get there for around 4pm as they usually have a guy playing old Gershwin songs on the grand piano in the bar. Brilliant!

Stayed on as disscounted cheapie night deal. Room fine, no probs whatsoever.indeed was very nice. The great british classics (Food) in the restaurant was one of the most, perhaps the most, boring dining expierience i have had for some time. Don't get me wrong, actually i have no problem with a prawn cocktail and a grilled steak.done well, done very well.
Actually is was very average indeed with the main course alone costing circa 50 inc the additonal (Addtional cost) of veg and potatoes. Not whinging about the price either. Average boring food, served in a boring environment by boring staff. However, hardly a member of staff who could speak english, and due to a lack of confidence they hardly made any customer conrtact whatsoever.
It was nothing short of "like watching paint dry." Restaurant is way, way over priced. The management should take 200 quid out of the till, walk in to Brighton and see what the young boys are doing! (Or just over the rd, and excellent restaurant right in front of them) The restaurant business in Brighton is young, trendy, vibrant, good and very competitive.
The grand is not even in the race, not even on the starting line. It just makes you wonder what on earth the mangement do? Breakfast excellent, yet again hardly an english member of staff, or more importantly a member of staff who could communicate with me, an englishman, in english, in my home country England! Is this too much to ask? Don't want anyone getting the wrong ide, i have no problems (non whatsoever) with staff from overseas.
I do however, have a big problem when it seems almost impossible to communicate the most basic requirement to a member of staff because they can not speak English, not one of them, not a few of them.but the vast majority of them! You know as a customer id like to speak to staff, bit of banter, bit of fun.not possible at the Grand Brighton.well, not for me.

The Grand dominates Brighton Seafront, its big, it has flags, you can see it even if you stand on the very last plank of Brighton Pier. Stylistically the Grand is a cross between a palace and a british suburban conservatory. On the one hand it has big ceilings, big stairs, big hallways and a gaping view down the middle of it all that will turn your stomach, on the other hand it has the colour scheme of an unfashionable member of the royal family, a strange ensemble of over-sized vases dotted around the arcade-esque frontage and picture frames that are not quite the right size for the walls.
The bar was pleasant and the cocktails are adequate, though they could probably have done with a new piano player and some interesting tablecloths. Breakfast was fantastic, an epic buffet. This was one area where eclectic taste seemed to pay off, though the silverware fell apart a bit when I was serving my mushrooms. For something so grand, the Grand Hotel is charmingly off-kilter, but the views from the balconies, the prime positioning and the friendly staff help to keep it as an A-OK choice if you are not worried about your wallet or being slightly outdated.

Cards on the table. I haven't stayed here. I have however had a drink in the bar and it is on that basis that I am writing a review- to encourage all those looking for a nice place, even a special place to have a drink to try out The Grand. It's the right place for certain occasions- particularly if you are celebrating or treating yourself but want somewhere more mature, more.well.grand.
The lobby is lovely with high ceilings, ornate architectural details and the requisite plush feeling. The bar on the left from the lobby has several rooms- one with a fleet of elaborate sofas to sink into with a g&t, the second with a sleek bar. I remember deep cream carpets, beautiful flowers and I think chandeliers. I chose to go there though because of the sun rooms on the front of the hotel.
In the morning the glass enclosed sun rooms are given over to breakfast and one end had groups eating decadent cream teas when we arrived at 6pm for a cocktail. We were led to a table right at the window and were given long drinks menus which we perused whilst looking out to sea. I had a delicious mojito- charged at the usual extortionate hotel prices somewhere between 8-10.
It was lovely though sitting with our drinks looking out at the sun going down over the sea.nice for a special occasion. I liked to think also of all the politicians who had probably sat there in the past during party conferences.

What can you say about the Grand? It's just heaven! Fantastic service, great cocktails at incredibly reasonable pub not hotel prices, and fabulous food. The breakfast buffet is absolutely amazing, offering everything you could possibly wish for, and if you do think of something else just ask and it will appear. The dinner, bed and breakfast package is perfect because the food you get in the restaurant is top notch, and for one night at least why leave the hotel?!
Make sure you get a room at the front with sea views, glorious to wake up to in the morning. The deluxe rooms with huge 'super king' beds are amazing, with all the facilities you could need. Go now and enjoy!

The Grand is a real institution in Brighton; fantastic location on the seafront, very interesting history, especially the past 20 years and beautiful building. There are some better managed, better value hotels in Brighton, but it is quite special to stay there even though the interior is a bit faded and the staff can be fairly un-attentive. Try to get room or a suite with a sea view - those are really special. Skip the restaurant though, there is no real reason to eat there.
