It is nice and well located, but certainly not a 4-star establishment IMHO. What unfortunately spoiled my mood was that my room door was open when I returned in the evening, which is absolutely unacceptable. Thank God all my valuables etc were still there, but it left me with a very uneasy feeling. When I mentioned this to the hotel when I checked out, it wasn't really dealt with as if nothing had happened, which I found very unprofessional.

There are insufficient parking spaces for the number of rooms not made better by staff parking on site. The room was OK with decent shower albeit set up for one traveller, but the blinds were broken and the room at the front was noisy owing to traffic - OK if window kept shut. Breakfasts were also OK but luke warm. Not enough staff, this is a B&B needing better management.

The vast majority of my experience was very positive (I think I have been 2 or 3 times now), the hotel is distinctly 4-star in all respects except one. The "car park" is the reason I will not be returning. Firstly, the entrance is incredibly narrow and if you are not a confident driver (or you are driving anything wider than a standard saloon) it is very difficult to traverse. Secondly, there is barely enough space in the "car park" for two thirds of the potential guests.
Meaning if you plan on returning to the hotel late after a long day at work, you will not get a space (although you won't find that out until you've negotiated the narrow alley and you may be faced with reversing out if there's no space for a 20-something point turn). Some inconsiderate people frequently decide to park directly in the centre of the car park and being blocked in/out or being forced to reverse onto a busy main road is a frustratingly common experience. Thirdly, if forced to park anywhere else in Summertown, you are more than likely going to receive a ticket.
I have just paid a 50 fine. One of the very pleasant staff said he would inform management but I am yet to hear from them. As a frequent business traveller, all I look for in a hotel is an acceptable car park, decent Wi-Fi and breakfast. Sadly, my repeated negative experiences with the "car park" have ruined a hotel that ticks the other two boxes and is decent in almost every other regard. Thankfully, there are many other options in Oxford, some much better (IHG Holiday Inn is lovely) and some far worse (the Travelodge literally opposite the Holiday Inn is like Fight Club if it was filmed in the UK on a shoestring budget). I'll take my 2-4 nights per week custom elsewhere. TL;DR - Great hotel for non-drivers. If you're driving, I would recommend avoiding it.

Just returned from a wonderful weekend in Oxford primarily visiting our Son as it was his Birthday, but would thoroughly recommend staying at The Galaxie. The gentleman that looks after reception was very personable and welcoming. We had a lovely chat when he took us to our room and he gave us a lot of useful information about the local area. A very homely.place to stay.

Lovely hotel. The staff were courteous, knowledge and helpful. I think they're struggling with staff (as is the rest of industry at the moment) as I saw the same chap each morning and night. There were some minor issues (such as replacing in room amenities), but nothing of concern. The breakfast was of good quality offering cereals, croissants, fruit and full English as well as fresh juice and coffee. I would recommend.

Good location in Summertown part of Oxford, about 15-20 walk to center city. Bus stop is right at front door if you prefer. There is also a bank, chemist, pub and few more restaurants /shops within 2-5 minute walk. Greenhouse breakfast room adjacent to beautiful well tended garden. Buffet breakfast was excellent with great selection of breads, fruit, eggs, ham, bacon and even smoked salmon. Accommodating sever was there to take care if drinks.
Overall cleanliness was very good. Our room showed a bit of wear here and there but not to detriment of our stay. Bed and bedding were clean and very comfortable. The walk in shower could have used a safety grab bar and a soap dish. Care had to be taken not to get shower spray all over the place since there was no closure in the back. A great value and would stay again.

We stayed at the Galaxie Hotel for a weekend to visit Oxford & I must say that we had a very pleasant visit. The rooms were very comfortable with fantastic bed linen, food was excellent & the staff made us feel very welcome. The owners have to be some of the nicest genuine people that I have met! It is situated well within walking distance to the city centre & we will defiantly visit The Galaxie Hotel again when we return to Oxford. Thank you for making our visit even better.

Perhaps I'm being a bit harsh with this rating. I've put quite a few visitors in here over the years and the main point to report here is that it is hugely overpriced even by the stratospheric standards of Oxford. It had a major refurb a few years ago and the conservatory at the back is quite cosy. The quality of the nearby eateries has improved which is just as well because the in-house menu seemed a bit desultory and didn't get favourable reports
