The beautiful Farington Lodge is a lovely whimsical English Hotel, full of old English character which is seen through by the excellent longstanding loyal, pleasant and thoroughly helpful staff, providing the best service to all their guests. The room was lovely and clean and had a modern bathroom and all the facilities you need to make your stay comfortable (they kindly moved me into a room with a bathtub so I could enjoy a soak!).
The chef and kitchen staff were very kind and accommodating my dietary needs and prepared a delicious salmon evening meal. In the morning, I enjoyed a delicious eggs benedict. I have also enjoyed a very delectable seabass served with new potatoes and crushed avocado during a previous stay a couple of weeks ago and for breakfast on that occasion a wonderfully seasoned scrambled eggs with smoked salmon on wholemeal toast. Thank you for a wonderful stay, I will be returning!

Top wedding venue, been here a few times over the last 10 years and I've seen a lot of different types of weddings. From drinks receptions in the grounds with large kids games, through to more intimate drinks receptions in the bar area and courtyard seating, The main function room is a good size for a wedding party and I've worked alongside casino companies such as Pier Fun Casinos @PeterDHillWeddingSinger&DJ

Looks good from outside but very sad inside. We stayed for 2 nights as we were attending a wedding on the Saturday. Firstly the room only had 2 small drawers, one in each of the bedside cabinets. Very few hangers in the wardrobe. One pack of biscuits for two people. Bathroom walls were covered in cobwebs, mirror needed cleaning. We stayed in an executive double AND it was a double.
We expect king in executive rooms but hey a double was stated! NO maid service on the second day! AND no replenishing of the milk etc. Secondly the bar / hotel did not take cash only cards and just to make life simple they add 10% service charge to all transactions "so you don't need to think about tipping" (their statement not mine). At check in we were not informed of meal times and there was no information in the room.
Others in the wedding guests staying also had worse problems with non-working showers and filthy bed sheets. One of the guests even had a room without a window! But when they complained to reception, they got the response of "well you only paid 120 per night for the room. What do you expect when others have paid more" Food was acceptable hence the 2* or we would have given less. Not a lot to recommend here.

A couple of years ago we used to regularly come for Sunday lunch and mother's Day every year. It was one of the best we had, beautifully pink beef, amazing tomato soup. We obviously didn't come for a while due to covid and I booked a mother's Day meal. We had to preorder, a minor annoyance as we never used to, but fine. The menu had drastically changed and it was hard to pick.
Anyway to get to the point my food was just bad. The Caesar salad starter was inedible. I was shocked someone approved it. There was no dressing whatsoever. A wedge of lettuce, some crispy bacon, cheese and anchovies thrown on a plate with no dressing. I understand they basically deconstructed it but it tasted awful. I didn't eat it. Then the main - beef.
Totally different to how it used to be. Loads of fatty chunks in it and it was dry and chewy. I didn't eat more than a mouthful. The rest of the roast was nice. Lovely gravy and Yorkshire. Dessert was fine. I had to give it them back and ask them to heat it because they gave me a stone cold hard brownie but once heated it was very nice 30 a head.very disappointed.
I didn't tell anyone because I'm not the type, but unfortunately I don't think we will be coming back if that is the new standard. We didn't mind paying the prices as the food was amazing. Staff must have changed as that is not the case.
