Shaw Hill Club

On arrival initial impression was the hotel was a little tired as were the rooms. However, the rooms are spotless and very comfortable. The best bit was the staff. At breakfast because I am dieting I asked for a fuit smooth made with oat milk. Not on the menu but Sue was amazing and provided the most wonderful fruit smoothy. At our second breakfast she again went above and beyond by bringing in her own blender to make my smoothy.

We had a meal in the hotel restaurant and Miles looked after us. His attention to detail was superb ever present but not intrusive. His knowledge of the wines was excellent and he made wonderful Irish coffee. I would highly rate the hotel based on the staff alone they were exceptionnel.

Staff were friendly and extremely helpful. Our room was upgraded but we had to ask to move as the chandelier moved every time the people above moved, and we could not open any windows. Other room was acceptable but nothing special. Hotel in desperate need of work to bring it up to standard. Were looking forward to our stay but very disappointed

Lovely place, can't make my mind up if it needs uplifting or just leaving alone. Service was a bit slow but really enjoyed the afternoon tea. The staff are lovely

I spent Saturday evening here in a private room for a hen meal. The room was lovely and bright and we were sat on a rectangular table that was set ready to go, a good set up as we could drop in on a conversation from pretty much anywhere on the table. The food was lovely. We ordered from a preset menu, I had souffle, beef wellington, followed by a sticky toffee pudding. Every course was served warm and was very tasty. The staff were attentive with drinks. Lovely place, would recommend.

Had afternoon tea, to meet groom to be parents, as the wedding is to be at Shaw hill. Had food in restaurant, nicely served and well presented. Table staff were very efficient and when asked for something more than happy to provide. No rush to leave the table either, all good.

Brought my Grandma here for Afternoon Tea today and the service and food was excellent. We were both so impressed with how out of the way the staff went to accommodate us and make the experience very special. Oliver in particular was absolutely wonderful. Highly recommend and we will be back very soon! Thank you x

Good hotel - reasonably priced 1 night stay for me Positives 1. Free parking available 2. Staff very polite and helpful 3. In what seems like a nice area and nice views 4. Decent spa facilities didn't get to check the gym 5. Hygiene inside was good with various sanitising stations across the building Negatives / room for improvements 1. Rooms are dated and could do with modernising 2.

More plug sockets needed in the bedroom. Nice and handy to have a socket by the bed. 3. Rather than have a big massive keyring and key maybe updated swipe cards like most hotels do. The keyring was as big as a smart phone in terms of size I didnt try any food so cannot comment

Had a spa day including an afternoon as a group of seven on my wife's birthday. The spa and treatments were very good, although in places the spa does feel very dated. The afternoon tea was good quality, however the service was slow and felt unprofessional at times. The real issue though came after we had left our spa day. I received a phone call at stating we had not paid, I confirmed that my wife had paid before we had left and asked that they go and double check there records before calling me back as I'd need to disturb my wife from her 30th birthday party to find the receipt. Once more she rang back and said she definitely hadn't received payment, so I had to get my wife out to confirm she had paid and give the payment info.

We had a wonderful afternoon tea, beautiful room, beautiful view, the food was lovely and fresh. We were looked after by Nikki who made sure we had everything we needed and Oliver who sorted it all out for us. Thank you to the chefs all superb. We'll be back soon. Julie and Em

A party of 11 experienced club golfers played Shaw Hill today for 25 per person. I called the club this morning to check the course was open following heavy overnight rain and more rain expected throughout the day. I was told the course was open and playable. Unfortunately this proved incorrect with many greens unplayable and some winter tee mats also under water.

The duty Manager was unclear as to what action he could take when we complained about the course being unplayable on several holes and he said he would get clarification and respond accordingly. Bar staff friendly. Guinness 5.50 token operated Cappuccino 2.50

Lovely festive afternoon tea for 2 at Shaw hill as a treat. The menu was great and lonely selection of food and dessert. Good service form the staff and lovely venue.

We had a family meal in the restaurant, I really cannot fault any aspect of the service or the food. A great atmosphere, setting and praise to the chef and team and waiting staff, as our food was all excellent throughout, we will definitely be booking again in the future and can highly recommend.

Excellent food and a very high standard. 6 of us dined last Saturday in the Vardon's restaurant and as usual it never disappoints. My choice of a starter was scallops, a delicious main of brisket Wellington to the mouthwatering dessert. The quality and tastes were outstanding. The rest of the party also made excellent choices choices from the menu. Service was excellent and very professional. Highly recommended

Lovely setting, great friendly staff. Our room requires alot of TLC, (ie toilet seat loose, shower loose, mixer tap almost impossible to adjust for a shower, extractor fan not working etc), perhaps these jobs could've been done during their quiet periods. No information pack in the room. Food in the restaurant fantastic and a special thanks to Lynn in reception for sending our shoes we left in the wardrobe. Would definitely stay again.

First afternoon tea at this lovely hotel. To start, we had soup with croutons, sausage roll with cranberry and a fresh cheese scone. The main tiers consisted of four finger sandwiches that consisted of Coronation Chicken, Cheese and chutney, Poached Salmon, Dill and cream cheese. Sweets consisted of three tray bakes (Victoria Sponge, Chocolate Brownie and a meringue), there was a fresh scone with jam and cream, a pot of tea or coffee is included.

My Mum and I have been here before for murder mystery nights, and the between-scene courses were lovely. Booking is required, the cost was 19.95 per person, and a 10 per person deposit is required over the phone to secure the booking. We would definitely come back again, the meals also looked very appetising. The staff were very friendly and efficient. Wheelchair parking and access is available.

Stayed for a night with my 2 young sons. The staff were very friendly and polite. Room was very clean and spacious. Facilities were very good. We used the swimming pool and jacuzzi. Hotel and grounds were very pleasant. The only slight and it's very slight negative note is that some parts of the hotel need a bit of an upgrade/modernisation but all in all I can't complain as we loved our stay and the price was of excellent value. Definitely somewhere I would recommend and hope to visit in the future. with my golf clubs packed next time .

Stayed 2 nights in a lovely bedroom, we were part of a wedding. Staff were friendly & seemed to be enjoying their jobs especially the younger staff which was lovely to see. The wedding went perfectly. Only downside is no lift so take that into consideration when booking a room. They have rooms downstairs.

AWESOME! It was my first time up North and this place really made my trip. Really lovely staff (one of them with fantastic hair). Lovely afternoon tea, so much flavour, so much tea, so much love. Would recommend the Shaw Hill Burger! Will 100% be coming back again, maybe even slip in a quick game of golf! I wish all the Shaw Hill Staff a very pleasant evening

Nice looking building but the inside could do with a good makeover and modernisation. No Wifi and the room what a very small double. Staff very friendly and the fitness centre is a bonus.

Top place for a special meal. Good choice, good service and reasonable priced. The restaurant is attractively decorated and well laid out. The waiting area for drinks does not work quite as well with its high ceilings and not that successful decoration. Can sometimes be a problem with large parties in the dinning room being a bit noisy, possibly visiting golfing groups. Overall difficult to go wrong.

Set in beautiful surroundings, Shaw hill is an excellent choice for a special occasion. We have dined there on several occasions and have found both the service and the food superb. The level of service you recieve is second to none and all the waiters and waitresses cannot do enough for you. There is a fully equipped gym and leisure facilities there, as well as a superb golf course.

There are several rooms available for private functions. The hotel facilities are of a good standard with a variety of price ranges. The parking is private and spaces are reserved for Golfing captain. Well worth a visit if it is a special occasion or just to treat yourself.
