The Four Star Churchill Hotel offers guests a place to stay in individually designed rooms just a stones throw from the pedestrianised city centre of York. We have a selection of room types to suit all needs and budgets with rooms available in double, twin and family configurations and varying from smaller rooms for the shorter stay up to four-posters for special occasions (see below for further details).
One great thing to come out of the pandemic is that we've made the most of our outside space and created a vibrant beer garden. Our new beer garden seats around 80 guests and has had a lovely atmosphere ever since it opened. We now have the large patio covered with heated parasols. Garden Igloos go up for Winter then there is also The Churchill Bothy which provides a private space in which to celebrate. For Spring and Summer we'll be firing up the pizza oven everyday then we're also now serving tacos too on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

The Churchill is the perfect spot for a long weekend in York. The staff at the hotel are fantastic! Bob, Dan and the team really went above and beyond to help my wife and I to feel at home. The food at the hotel was so incredibly good - and so reasonable, that whenever we ate anywhere else we said "Should have eaten at Churchill's!" The location was also excellent, close to downtown, but not right in the middle of the madness, so you can still park and get a good nights' sleep.

The only slight issue was the temperature of our room. We live in the USA and are accustomed to Air Conditioning, and even though it was 60oF outside, the room was rather warm. Overall though, an absolute 5-Star spot in a great location! Highly recommend!

The hotel itself is lovely. Friendly staff and good service. Food is first class. I had to give my room 3 stars only because it was right next door to a railway line. Very noisy. On the plus side the room was lovely. Great bathroom with a super shower. Will definitely stay here again but not in a room near the railway line.

My husband and I stayed for 2 nights this week, and we had the most enjoyable time! The copper bath in our room was wonderful. We had a lovely, leafy view, and the bed was very large and comfortable. The location is only a short walk, which was great for us as we spent most of out break in the city. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and room service was very quick. I would recommend to anyone!

Lovely hotel in York, , stayed in a small double room, which was ok for one night. Lovely decor, comfy bed, definitely big enough for two! Bathroom small and gorgeous. Lovely toiletries. Room was a bit too warm, window was quite small, so not much air circulation. Reception staff really helpful and really nice. Food was gorgeous, breakfast was excellent.

Good location for a city break. Only a ten minute walk from York centre. Nice, clean rooms and good customer service. Staff were all friendly and helpful. The only thing I felt could have been better was that there was no information in the rooms about the restaurant or other facilities. We had to Google the menu which I'd not a problem but it would have been nice to see a copy in the room.

An Amazing hotel in York, very friendly staff going that extra bit to make your stay that more pleasant for you. Food in the restaurant was amazing. Not to far from the city centre a number of pubs and tea shops on the way in to the centre so this can make your journey a little bit longer going or on your way back to the hotel Some wonderful shopping along with the history to be explored whilst doing this. A wonderful city I will surely be going back again.

On arrival we was greeted by Ian. What a lovely man. He made us feel very welcome. He also showed us were things were in the hotel and where to walk to. The hotel was beautiful, the staff couldn't do enough for us. Our room was lovely and a nice comfy bed. The food was amazing. The bar staff are really nice. Thankyou for everything you did for us. And we will see you again.x

Nice hotel, the staff were friendly and welcoming. The hotel looks charming with a lovely bar and restaurant area. The hotel is in a great location with a very short walk into town. Only points to raise are the small double rooms are very small and the rooms on the side of the railway are loud when a train goes past. A little disappointed that the parking is 15 a night which I thought was quite expensive.

Ian and the team are fantastic! Very knowledgeable and helpful. My room was spotless, with lovely toiletries and a generous selection of hot drinks. I really enjoyed my stay at the Churchill Hotel and would happily come back. It's handy to have the sunny beer garden and bar area if needed. You can hear a little railway noise, but it's pretty infrequent.

Absolutely amazing experience. This has to be one of the friendliest hotels in York. Every member of staff walks round with a huge smile and is ready help. The food is out of this world and attention to details outstanding. Rooms are clean and neat, we everything you need, including iron and hair dryer. If you are going to be staying in York, you can't go wrong here.

Absolutely friendly staff, always helpful. Super service and the food is on point. Has a great choice of beers and ales, and a good cocktail menu. You can order though your phone for food service to your table or bubble/igloo. Has a good music in the bar. And is clean

Stayed here on many occasion. Rooms are nice, clean and modern. The only issue we found as a couple, the room next door was a family room with small children and it was a little noisy. The bar area is pleasant and relaxing. Breakfast was lovely as usual, nice fresh produce.

Fantastic looking hotel and really lovely throughout, our room was clean and made to a very high standard, bathroom was to die for and the partner loved the huge copper bath! Mattres was super comfy and a great night sleep was had. My only criticism and why I can't give it 5* is the breakfast, the bacon was clearly from a hot hold which had been there in a bit too long, it all tasted great but the bacon did remind me of a piece of leather. Wasn't work making a fuss about as hopefully a one off!

My partner booked this hotel as a birthday treat for myself and he did an amazing job. The room was lovely, we had the 4 poster room with a bath near the bed (which I loved) and the bed was very comfy. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. The only downfall for the hotel is the parking having a big car made it hard to get through the entrance and the spaces were small.

Room was fab, hardly any noise considering we were above the main entrance. Great staff & x great breakfast selection. Booking the pods were a no go for us though as there was a charge for hiring on top of the price for a meal

Lovely hotel, contemporary decor, wonderful terrace and garden. The room was spacious with a luxurious copper bath as well as bathroom. Enjoyed lunch and drinks in the garden whilst there, very welcome after sightseeing. Very central for York and all it has to offer. Breakfast OK, friendly and efficient service from start to finish.

I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND staying here. All of the staff were warm, welcoming & very efficient upon our arrival. My husband and I had a small double room which was called "Jennie". It was very spacious and beautifully decorated with lots of attention to detail. The en-suite was huge and everywhere was immaculately clean. The beer garden was gorgeous with plenty of seating, lovely plants, lighting & heaters. The stone baked pizzas were very tasty and the staff out-side were fabulous. The location was perfect for walking into the centre of York.

Wonderful staff with a great sense of humour. While we only stayed one night, I felt comfortable and safe. There were 3 of us in one of their Family rooms, and while it was tight with all of our luggage, the beds and linens were incredibly nice and we rested well. I wish we could have stayed for more time in wonderful York! Tip - do not get breakfast - quite expensive and not very good - there is GREAT food in York - just take a stroll.

On a work trip to York I decided to stay here as my mother in law was joining me for dinner. The hotel is very cute with a lot of personality. The rooms are upgraded with great shower heads and a very posh historic British vibe.

My wife and I (in our late 30's) stayed in this hotel during a vacation back home (I have lived in the USA for 18 years and missed home, so I needed a vacation) at this point in time in 2008. This post has been a long time coming. We found this hotel online by accident. A Winston Churchill themed hotel. Politics aside, it was a gorgeous/fantastic hotel- well designed, beautiful rooms, and great service.

Right in the heart of the beautiful historic city of York. Speaking of great service, the door man (not sure what they call them in England), met us on our first night as we checked in. We told him we were in town for a few days. After retiring for the evening, we woke up the next morning for our first day's adventures. We met the same door man (wish I could remember his name), and he told us he had something for us.

The night before, he had gone to the pub and spent at least an hour, compiling a small pocket book for us filled with a information that guided us thorugh the city to different landmarks and what history had occured there at the time. Who does that!? It was a fantastic book. We learned so much from it, and it made the trip much more enjoyable. We gave him a good cash tip.although he didn't want any money from us. We told him to spend it at the pub and have a few drinks on us. So.when/if you are in York and need a great place to stay. John J San Diego, California

Can only comment on the Xmas dinner package but the food and service were first-rate for the price. Bar prices were as steep as you'd expect from a hotel bar but the decor in the public areas & toilets was tasteful.

I did not book this hotel but another hotel had apparently overbooked and therefore they moved me into here. The Churchill is a 3* hotel and is very grand indeed and I would have expected it to be a 4* Parts of the hotel are based on a Winston Churchill theme. The restaurant is extremely top class and most of the customers were locals. No dress code mentioned but everyone was well dressed.

The service was 100% and the location was only minutes walk away from the city wall. Parking is free. Everything about this hotel is very good and if I had to give a negative feedback it could only be on the room size. Some rooms are quite small but to be fair so are many city centre hotels. Top place and fair value for money
