Braemar encapsulates everybody's picturesque ideal of Scotland - fairytale castles, snow capped mountains, fast flowing rivers, unique wildlife ancient pine forests and the unique Braemar Gathering. The village itself has a long history dating back to the 8th century when the King of picts built a wooden fort (Doldencha) near to the site of the existing Braemar castle. There have been several castles built in and around Braemar since then with many bloody stories, tales of bravery and royalty associated with them.

What a lovely area to have this Hotel with its relaxing comfortable Lodges. We stayed in one their Lodges for 4 nights and it was much better than i had expected. It has a bar and restaurant, where all the staff were very friendly and helpful. The meals we had were delivered quickly, nicely presented and very tasty. For a hotel and the area, i thought the prices in the restaurant were reasonable. Plenty of on site free parking and just a 5min walk into Braemar. With mountains, rivers and woodlands all around, there is plenty to see.

We have 3 bedroom lodge for 7 nights and we have been eating a few evenings and drinking lots of fantastic whiskies in the Hotel every night. The ambience of the low lighting with candle lights makes it so relaxing next to the log burner. The week is not over yet (more to come) but the food is fantastic the whisky selection is mind-blowing and the hospitality of everyone is so nice.
I have to say I haven't stayed in such a welcoming place for such a long time. Malcolm is an absolute legendary guy and Charly cannot do enough for you. Anyone coming to Braemar should really stay, eat and drink here.

One of my favourite places to visit, Braemar in between Christmas and NY, recently been taken over and new owners great, rooms are a bit dated but adds to the ambience, food great and a wide range of whiskey's in the open fire bar. Short walk away from centre and great place to stop for hikes, they have wooden cabins on the grounds self service but pop in the have food inside very good.

I was staying in one of the cabins for four weeks and for long stays you couldn't pick a better place, The cabins are well equipped and set up perfectly for self catering however if you don't use the restaurant you are missing a trick. Where Braemar lodge stands out is the Staff! The dynamics between manager and staff draws you in and made it one of the most friendly and welcoming places to stay, Nothing was to much trouble and you feel totally at home and looked after, Even during this years storm and power cut the chef was outside cooking on wood and charcoal to feed quests and any passerby's who needed a hot meal.

We thoroughly enjoyed our two nights in this beautiful old building, with lovely furniture and very Scottish decor. The service was welcoming and very good. The breakfast and dinner was tasty and the hotel is also within easy walking distance from the town centre, with many restaurants. I loved the four-poster bed, which was really comfortable. The room was beautiful and the bathroom, though small, was sufficently spacious to move around easily. We shall stay here again if we travel this way.

We had a fantastic two-night stay here in early December 2021. The room was very nicely set up and the orthopedic beds were very comfortable. There was also two different types of pillow so you could choose the one that suited you in order to get a good night's sleep. The food in the restaurant was spectacular as the chef recently won Chef of The Year; ingredients were the best available and sourced locally. Meals were very reasonably priced. We look forward to staying there again soon.

A unique experience! Really accommodating employees, genuinely interested in making sure we had a good experience by asking how things are and saying hello/goodbye when we come and go. We had a room, not a cabin, and it was clean and comfortable, albeit a bit small. The wi-fi signal in our part of the building was terrible. The front desk attendant suggested we have dinner at the hotel because they said it was "very good", so sure, why not.
I went to take a menu off the counter and they said, "No! That one's from yesterday. Let me get you tonight's menu." Any place that changes their menu daily? SIGN ME UP. The dinner was fabulous, particularly the duck and chicken liver pate with onion marmalade. The service on the other hand was a little strange. The woman we assumed was the manager/supervisor was really cold and unfriendly, which we further assumed was causing her subordinates to be unfriendly, as well. It didn't impact our experience all that much, thankfully, but it could've been better.
