Altnaharra Hotel The North West Highlands of Scotland, one of Europe's last great unspoilt wildernesses, is the magnificent location of the Altnaharra Hotel. Our luxury highlands hotel is one of the finest leisure and sporting venues in Scotland and has been for nearly 200 years. Having once been a lodge for 19th Century sportsmen and women, the Altnaharra has developed a rich heritage in outdoor recreational pursuits.

We offer first class fishing on numerous local rivers and lochs, and for those with less of a sporting interest, we can recommend countless highland walks or driving tours to the numerous spectacular local sights.
Services
At the Altnaharra Hotel we have 14 luxury en-suite bedrooms. All of them have been individually designed and are in keeping with the traditional Scottish style of the hotel. Most of the rooms have stunning loch and highland views. All of our luxury bedrooms come with televisions, DVD players and hair dryers.
The Altnaharra Hotel has two self-catering cottages within the grounds available for rental. Our cottages are in the most beautiful location in the heart Sutherland in the Scottish Highlands. You won't fail to be impressed with the breath-taking mountain views that surround the cottages and provide the perfect setting for your time away.
Scotland is famous for its abundant salmon population, and a fishing trip in the Scottish highlands is a truly relaxing experience, and the best way to witness the unspoiled Scottish wilderness. The Altnaharra Hotel has its own, private stretch of the River Mudale, and can periodically arrange fishing on a number of other Highland rivers including The Strathmore, the Naver and The Borgie, all famous for seasonal salmon and trout fishing. In addition, numerous lochs are available for wild brown trout fishing.

Came by here just for a desperate coffee along the route, couldn't believe what a warm welcome we got by the staff! Absolutely amazing hospitality, even just to receive a coffee "to go". Very very nice people and beautiful cosy place to stay.

Bizarre dinner here. It seemed we were trying our luck to eat, despite having booked in by email weeks before. Our meal arrived about an hour after ordering and everything we asked for seemed like an imposition. Beautiful setting and tasty food however. Needs more staff.

We loved this hotel. Traditional yet well maintained and comfortable. They have a separate veggie / vegan menu and made a real effort with the vegan main course option, much appreciated

A remote hotel which is brilliant if it's what you're looking for. Brilliant for star gazing as there's little light pollution and you can get up close to stags and deer. (Not to close lol)

The Altnaharra Hotel is the perfect base for exploring the inner region of the NC500 route. It may not be the most modern accommodation but the staff are friendly and welcoming, and the food is delicious. The hotel is located about halfway along the single track A836 between Tongue and Lairg. You may not get there quickly but you will be able to enjoy the surroundings when you arrive.

Room door didnt lock, dinner menu was limited and massively overpriced for what it was. Violently vomited following dinner and within the room, the carpets were dirty and tv barely in working order. New staff member was lovely, however, would not stay again.

Fabulous dinners when the chef was on duty. Doing very well despite lack of staff. Lack of rain meant poor fishing.

Always a welcome stop on our Highland Hoon. After a slight dip last year, the food is better than ever: well presented and delicious. Rooms have been refreshed and beds are super comfy. Staff are fab. Will definitely be returning in future.
