Ben Loyal Hotel The hotel is located in the centre of Tongue, next door to the Royal Bank of Scotland and it is only a short stroll to the post office and shop and a few minutes from the general store and petrol station. The hotel enjoys outstanding views out over the unspoiled Sutherland landscape and is the perfect place from which to explore the northern highlands.

From here you can witness the difference between the 'flow country' of Caithness with its sweeping landscapes and open skies and the rugged scenery with spectacular mountains and glens that typifies so much of north Sutherland.

We ate in the bar. The food and service was by far the best we had in the area! Lovely atmosphere! Well done to all.

A wonderful place to stay and enjoy everything that's local or just a nights stop while enjoying the Majestic NC500. The Pods have amazing views and wonderful to get a drink from the bar and enjoy the sunset. Sit in and have a crack with the locals, everyone is so welcoming of good people. The food certainly doesn't disappoint, we were in the area for several nights and had to have the Lamb Shank twice, can't wait to return and enjoy the local crack and wonderful food. This place truly is everything that Scotland has to offer.

Stayed here on a drive around the NC500. Pods clean and new, but definitely more glamping than pod (no oven or hob, only 2 plugs in the whole place). Nowhere to buy food at all in Tongue so the main option is the hotel restaurant which has very good food but is a little odd.

A great we place for a meal. We shared the nachos for a starter. Then my wife had the chicken with haggis and smoked bacon. I had the beef and ale stew. Both were large portions and well presented and cooked to perfection. You are better booking as it seems a busy place even in September.

Stayed in pod, on NC500 route, amazing place, views to stunning. Staff were exceptional especially lady who (brown long hair) who seemed to run bar, check in people and served breakfast! Wouldn't hesitate to recommend. Only thing I would say is our pod was very close to children's playground so rather noisy

Firstly, food was great, both in the evening and at breakfast, as were the waiting staff so 5* there. However, if you are looking for booking to stay then the rooms were very basic given the prices (especially compared to other places on the NC500) and in particular we stayed in room 6 which had loud noise from downstairs (banging) from the kitchen until 10.30pm and it is this experience, the complete lack of WiFi in this room and the room state that resulted in 3* overall.

The hotel has been recently refurbished and provided top notch accommodation and meals during our one-night stay. We stayed in one of the "glamping" cabins with our two young daughters and were very comfortable, though I'd say they would be pretty cold over the winter months. My inlaws stayed in the main hotel building and had an absolutely lovely room. Friendly staff and really couldn't fault the place.
