We are a privately owned, family run hotel and bed and breakfast sistuated situated on East Devon's Jurassic Coast in the heart of the village of Beer. Most of our twenty bedrooms are en-suite (with either shower or bath) and all have colour TV and tea and coffee making facilities. We welcome singles, couples and families alike, with a choice of smoking and non-smoking rooms. We also cater for well-behaved dogs in some allocated bedrooms.
Services
Some of our bedrooms are situated above our Function Room, Kitchen or Starboard Lounge Bar and can be subject to noise disturbance. We will always inform you if there is a function taking place during your stay. Due to this fact we do not allow functions with live music or discos during the summer months.
Here at The Dolphin, our menu is renowned for hearty portions of quality home cooked food, using the best local produce available, with fresh fish and seafood as a focus. In order to comply with social distancing guidelines, we have taken the decision not to run our Sunday carvery for the time being. We will, however be offering a weekly Sunday Roast special from 12.95 with a different choice of meat each week.

Stopped here for Sunday lunch, if l could give 0 stars, I would. Had the 'vegan version' so no cauliflower cheese, no Yorkshire pudding which is fine as I make the choice not to have dairy. But I'd expect at 15 per roast to have more than 4 tiny pale, bland potatoes and the tiniest slab of mushroom and pumpkin bake which was so dry, it was like it had been sitting under some form of heat lamp or the bottom shelf of an oven and re cooked more than once.
The veg came out in a school dinner style metal tray, full of cold soggy veg sitting in a puddle of water I had so little gravy (tasted like Bisto granules) that it had dried onto the food. Everything was cold and awful and the Manager only offered a 50% refund as my husband ate just slightly over half of his meal before giving in and quitting. I'm not one to complain as all my other Google reviews are positive but I feel like warning others.
There's a much better pub down the road called The Anchor where we had a fantastic and large meal after leaving this establishment. This js a genuine and honest review, I like to go out for nice food and want the same for others too!

Fantastic spot, a stone throw from the beach and a couple of nice pubs to eat and drink at. The staff are very friendly and recieved a warm welcome when i arrived and all the staff were only to happy to help with whatever you asked for. The single room was a good size, infact bigger than some doubles ive stayed in at different hotels! The room was clean and tidy along with the bathroom and didn't lack anything at all.
Only stayed for one night as a stop off on the way to the lizard but will definitely book there again whenever im back in the area next. The cooked breakfast in the morning was nice although didn't go to much on the sausages, but thats probably just my taste! All in all I'd give the dolphin hotel 10/10

My stay at the Dolphin was lovely in April, clean and tidy rooms. Towels provided, tea and coffeerefreshments in the room which gave it a real nice touch. The staff are welcoming too. I've been back since for food which was really nice and I've booked to stay this month. So I would recommend anyone to eat/drink and stay here.

We loved this establishment and the very friendly welcoming staff. We were served by two lovely young ladies who could not have been more attentive. The food was excellent and as a vegetarian it was a joy to find somewhere that did a wonderful Omelette. When I became a vegetarian 60 years ago that was almost the only dish I could have and their Omelette at The Dolphin was one of the best I've ever had.
The food was very reasonably priced and we cannot thank the staff for making our visit such a memorable one. I highly recommend The Dolphin to anyone who appreciates good food and pleasant waitresses to bring it to u.

The "Family" room was dated and whilst the beds were comfortable the bathroom at 7ft x 4ft meant that there was no room if any to move. No shelving or hooks meant that you had to put clothes and towels on the toilet or floor. It was the smallest bathroom I have ever used. The new owners need to update rooms and bathrooms. The menu food was excellent and great value as was the breakfasts and a thank you to Patricia Rose the waitress, a delightful lady.

I did not stay but had the steak and kidney pie The best I can remember eating in the last 60 years Probably not " home made" but must have been made on the premises and certainly not frozen. Packed with meat including kidney. I'm always weary of the " award winning" frozen stuff served up by most places but this was truly exceptional!

Staying a week in Beer, and found The Dolphin on the first evening, which was fortunate, as all visits were excellent. Decent local Beer (Branoc from Branscombe Brewery) and very good food. Service was excellent - quick, efficient, and friendly. A fairly small menu but that's usually a good sign - do half a dozen dishes well, rather than 100s poorly. Highly recommended. The other large pub in the village is in the Greene King chain and doesn't compare.

Stopped in for an early morning cappuccino, which was not great unfortunately. However, the beer garden at the back was spacious and the staff friendly. Having gone in to to order, I could what a decent sized place it was so suspect our brief visit want representative and wouldn't put me off for going back for food and/or beer

Staff were friendly, but service quite slow and we had to ask twice for most things as they got forgotten. Not a bad meal, but just fairly average. The food was reasonable pub food, with good sized portions. Nice patio outside for a drink in the last of the evening sun. No one wore a face covering at all. Not one in sight, which I find a little strange all things considered.

Old but well-kept hotel, the location is quite good. The room was fine, the hotel service fine. The restaurant has a terrace to eat outside, everything was good except the system they use to serve the tables. In my case we sat down to dinner and they told us that the kitchen was closed because they were saturated but that they would tell us if it would reopen so we ordered something to drink and wait, near hour late they told us that it was already open but when we went to order 5 min later they closed it again because they were stuck so at the end of the day people who were behind us were attended while we were not allowed to order until half an hour later.
