We are an independent, family owned, 25 bedroom hotel in the coastal town of Lyme Regis nestled on Dorset's UNESCO Heritage site of the Jurassic Coast. Our precious oasis of calm is set within over an acre of private gardens with a grandstand view overlooking Lyme Bay. We have direct road free access to the beach and are also only a 2 minute walk to the centre of the town.
Perfect for adventurous walks along the South West Coast Path, searching for fossils, meandering around the town, relaxing in the garden with a good book or being pampered in our treatment room with an aromatherapy massage.

Built in 1735 for the Dowager Countess Poulett and later the home of the Duc du Stackpoole, the Alexandra became a hotel in 1901 and for over 100 years has continued to uphold its tradition as a timeless haven of English peace and charm. The Alexandra has been privately owned and managed by the Haskins family for over 30 years, providing guests with the upmost in comfort and luxury.
As befits an historic house, each one of our bedrooms are completely individual. They are very different in size, shape and aspect. Decorated with a simple, yet traditional English style, most rooms have breathtaking coastal and sea views. We have 6ft super king beds in the majority of our rooms, all with Egyptian cotton bedding, sumptious bath robes and our bathroom products are natrual, vegan, infused with aromatic essential oils and presented in refillable bottles. We have three Gould rooms two on the second floor with lovely large windows overlooking the harbour and the third is a sea facing, spacious room on the ground floor with a door opening out on to our garden.
PLEASE NOTE: Our RESTAURANT is currently CLOSED on a WEDNESDAY & THURSDAY - we apologise for any inconvenience. We are also operating with a lowered capacity, if you would like to book dinner with us during your stay please let us know as soon as possible. Lyme is a busy little town but in our oasis of peace and calm you can enjoy great food and stunning sea views.
Seaviews and the dramatic cliffs of the Jurassic coast make the Alex one of the most romantic wedding settings in the country. Fully licensed for civil wedding ceremonies, blessings, vow renewals and receptions, our weddings are totally tailored and personalised to each couple and our wedding team will be on hand to make sure your special day is utterly perfect, unique and individually unforgettable.

Beware when booking! I tried to book a room for my son and myself. Entered my credit card credentials in the booking form on the website. Never heard anything back from them. Tried to call them at least 6 times and left various messages. Never got any reply. Highly unprofessional staff if not even a scam! After I wrote this review above, the hotel owner asked me to write them back to "manager@.".
So I did. This is the answer that I got back! "Many thanks for your email. We apologise if there is a delay with our reply to you but we are extremely busy at the present time. Please bare with us, your understanding is much appreciated. We will reply as soon as we are able. Very best wishes From the Alexandra Team" Exactly the same message you get when you try to call the hotel by phone. The Hotel Alexandra Team certainly knows how to frustrate potential new guests "while they are extremely busy". I really don't get what they are doing!

Afternoon tea was very good and almost too much food. Everything was delicious and extra cream/ jam was available for the scones. Tea and coffee refilled when asked. Stunning setting looking over the lawns and out to sea. Swing seat in the garden to help it all go down. The reason for only 4 stars was that there was no parking on site, and we weren't offered any different types of tea/ coffee, yet other people were when they arrived, so quite varied service from the staff.

2 weeks ago we had what was supposed to have been my friend 90th Birthday Celebrations with a cream tea turned out to be a catalogue of errors starting from when we arrived at 15hrs the preordained food was delivered but incomplete something that couldn't be put right as the chef had gone home? The missing order was a Teir Tea and a Cream Tea? We did not get offered a drink from the bar?there appeared to be staff shortages?
I was charged for food that we didn't get? And on my card without me being present? The whole event took 1hr 30min I wouldn't call that time to celebrate the group of 14 left feeling a very rushed and a encumbrance from arriving to leaving

Stayed in room 47 which is on the ground floor overlooking the entrance path to Langmoor Gardens. The room was very basic and dated. The window did not close and we were woken every night by revellers returning from beach parties and then again at 6:45 by the Gardner using power tools. Reported the window issue after the first night but nothing was done and we were unable to move rooms as the hotel was full. The hotel has amazing views from the garden and restaurant but the management should not expect this to make up for poor experience and basic rooms.

Our friends took us for lunch to thank us for staying at ours. Two stars are for the view and a lovely company, the rest was below average, I am afraid. The menu on the website does not match the menu offered on arrival. Although we were early, a couple of dishes were not available. Our chicken main dish was dry, a side dish cold. So disappointing - we should have just had a drink and enjoy the view.

Lovely lunch, superb views. The champagne we ordered wasn't in stock we were told after we'd ordered, and we eventually got another bottle half way through our starters, but it didn't spoil our visit. Nice to sit on comfy chairs outside with such a view. The lovely gentleman that served us and cleared our plates was not intrusive, but very pleasant. Thank you, we will return.x
