Firstly I want to say this was a free stay for us, so I'm not looking to get any compensation etc, just an honest review of our stay. Took my partner away for a weekend in Bournemouth and found the Newbury, which the reviews seemed promising for. We arrived and managed to get parked which was great! though it was already clear that this was not a 4* hotel.

Check in was fine but the room was terrible. Plug sockets that didn't work. TV didn't work. Couldn't get WiFi. Mattress is terrible and fitted with a plastic protector. The water / kettle had a strange odour. I received an email to advise I would have to pay a 10 cleaning charge on arrival though no mention of this when booking. Rubbish and furniture was dumped out the front of the hotel.

A few good points: The location is good and close to a few local bars, the town centre & the beach. Bottom line is if you're going for a lads weekend away / stag do, and just want somewhere to slum it - then it will tick the boxes Anything more then I'd look somewhere else 2* rating at best

Very good hotel in a great location that is near to Bournemouth and the beach. The customer service was fantastic. The rooms are clean, the security is the best it can be. When the booking was made I knew that breakfast wasn't going to be served but was surprised to find out that the offer a voucher cards for another place, pretty much across the road.

The wi-fi can be a little patchy but this has been mentioned in the guide booklet in the room. They do have a community living room, which is handy. Parking is available for free, limited spaces. I would happily come back.

Worst hotel I have ever stayed in. The man at reception is a cross dresser and is extremely rude! The beds smelt like arse and hadn't been washed and when I complained they said it was me who had made the beds smell like that! I hadn't even slept on the bed yet! They then charged me 25 euros for putting a sweet wrapper in the bin! Which I never even ate in the room! What a joke. Worst hotel ever avoid it like the plague! They also added more charges to my card which I am currently battling to remove.

Hotel room was very clean and decor good. Car park space was beneficial. We were a little disappointed to find that breakfast, which was optional, was not on the premises but at another hotel down the road which for us was a bit inconvenient. Overall an enjoyable stay. Geoffrey Tucker

From the time we checked in until we left Vicki was a lovely host. She was always ready to help and offer advise and she has a fantastic sense of humour. I cannot fault the Newbury, our room was spotless, nicely decorated and the bed was really comfortable. Whist the en suite was small it also was spotless and we always had hot water when we needed it. Also there was a fan in our room which we were very greatfull for as it was very hot. Next time we are in Bournemouth we will stay here again. Thanks Vikki

I'm sure this hotel is lovely to stay in. Myself and my friend were, however, involved in a car accident on the way down to the hotel and our holiday (my friend suffered a mild brain hemorraghe and a broken femur, I luckily managed to escape injury). As a result, we were unable to make it to the hotel. We did inform them but it happened to be quite late (45 minutes before latest check in), and given the stress of the situation, it had escaped my mind.

The hotel have since charged me an 80 'cancellation fee'. I'm sure I was probably informed of this but I can't really remember much of the conversation if I'm honest. If using this hotel, just make sure you avoid having a near fatal car accident unless you want to pay 80! Just incase you were wondering, my friend is now stable in hospital and looking to be back at home within the next two weeks. Thanks Newbury Hotel, I hope you enjoy my 80.

We had a very enjoyable stay at the Newbury in late June 2012. Even the weather was perfect. The proprietress Vicki gave us a warm welcome and responded to requests charmingly and quickly. The twin-bedded room, on the second floor, was small, but comfortable for a short stay. The hotel is quietly situated, with no noise outside or within. It is well located, with the beach and town centre an easy stroll. No meals are served on the premises, but there is an option to take breakfast, at a slightly reduced cost, at a nearby bar/restaurant. Free wi-fi and car park.

Perfect location from the beach and town centre, 5 minutes to the cliffs and then a brisk walk down to the beach, superb location. The greeting from the lovely girl behind the counter made me and my girlfriend feel really welcomed and got me in a good mood for the day. The room might not have been the biggest in the world but it was clean and well maintained. I will definitely come back to this hotel again.
