Many historic inns claim to have been frequented by Dick Turpin and the Anchor is no exception. Few believed such stories until renovation works some years ago revealed a pistol hidden in the rafters bearing the chilling inscription 'Dick's Friend'. What we can say for sure is that, with the world famous Shepperton Studios just around the corner, many world famous actors and musicians have stayed, dined or just popped in for a drink.
The Anchor Hotel, being close to London, M25/M3/M4/M40, Heathrow and Gatwick Airport provides an ideal venue, not only for accommodation but for national and international visitors attending a meeting or conference. We can offer conference rooms for meetings, seminars, training or conferences with complimentary wifi.
The Anchor Hotel is steeped in history and character providing the perfect backdrop for your wedding day. The hotel witnessed one of the most famous love stories of the 20th Century when romance blossomed between Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor during the filming of 'Cleopatra' in the 1960s. We are licensed to hold civil marriage / partnership ceremonies in our wood panelled Disraeli room which is able to accommodate up to 70 guests and also in our wood panelled Oliver room which is able to accommodate up to 40 guests.

Stair carpet horrible filthy. Toilet smelt of effluent and sink tap was loose and could be turned around. Breakfast was disgraceful for the cost and the service and attitude of waiting staff was awful. The healthy breakfast offered only cereal, fruit juice, grapefruit segments and 3 yoghurt in total. Asked for a plain one and was told there was no more.
One latecomer at 9.50(service finished at 10) WAs told If you wanted cooked food it s finished!we were given free coffees and a 25 o/o discount. Will find somewhere better next time

Staff were friendly, and tried to please! Lovely old building, with wood panelling, and a quaint feel to it. Food was nothing fancy, but enjoyable! Although they do have a High Chair, to cater for children, they don't actually do a Child's Menu. On asking if our Granddaughter could have Sausage, and a bit of Mashed Potato, with Vegetables, she was actually given Sausage, Beans and Chips.
The Room we had was extremely basic, and small! With no space to move around the sides, so Husband had to climb on the bed to get in. One of the Sockets under a Wall Light was hanging off the Wall, and the TV constantly had a ' Choice Bar ' dropping down on the screen! The Toilet Roll Holder was broken in the Bathroom, and the Shower Base filled right up with Water when showering, clearly the Trap needed cleaning!
Although the room was clean, it could of been cleaner, especially the Shower! One of the room Windows didn't shut properly, and so you could hear anything going on outside! The Carpets in the room, hall, and especially the Stairs are absolutely filthy. Thus causing a musky smell! The Curtains also need cleaning, or changing. Wouldn't stay again! Could be such a lovely place.

Plus points - Nice people, pleasant pub. Excellent beer. Room not huge, but big enough for a short stay. Clean, warm, comfortable. Minus points - The stair carpet is by a country mile the most stained, disgusting carpet in the western world. Desperately needs replacing. The Monday night burger night - the 8oz burgers are 4oz at the most, and not great quality. Overall, nice place, I'd stay here again.

The hotel looked lovely but the fire alarms kept going off, the staff wouldn't turn them off and the lights went out. Some of the people who attended the event I was at, had travelled from all over the world so it was fortunate that most of the speeches were over by the time the fire alarms started going off. I've never come across less helpful staff. We would have been better off at Faulty Towers.

It was ok as an overnight stay. The floorboards were very creaky and when the person in the other room entered their room, I felt my bed sink down a little as the floorboards moved. The walls were thin and could hear them snoring from next door. The bathroom was a tight squeeze, nice towels though. The room was too warm and could only open the window to regulate.
But then the noise from outside was distracting. The lighting from the pub sign have off a bright glow all night so it was a little unsettling.even when the curtains where closed.

Love it here. The staff are so friendly. We got married here in July and love coming back again. Very personal service. Alison is incredible. She always remembers us. She was fantastic when arranging our wedding and so lovely every time we meet her again in the restaurant. Would definitely recommend this place.

I have never posted a bad review for anything so this is a first for me. On arrival we thought the hotel was really lovely and the service was great and we were told we had breakfast included in the room. The next morning (after a horrendous nights sleep in the minute room which was like being in a sauna and woken up at 7am with the beer delivery outside our room) we were told we had no breakfast included.
We spoke to the manager who said it wasn't his fault as he wasn't there the previous night. He had no interest in keeping his customers happy and was very rude. Not a good experience (shame because the food the previous evening was lovely, as were the staff).
