Dined here for a birthday lunch and received excellent service and lovely food. The staff were even kind enough to give my other half birthday wishes in the form of strawberries and chocolate sauce! A lovely touch and ideal way to end an enjoyable meal before walking around the beautiful surrounding grounds.

Stayed for a single night. Great room, bathroom was super clean, free oaty biscuits were greatly appreciated! The evening bar staff were a little distracted when I first arrived, but their supervisor gave them a gentle nudge and they were on form for the rest of the evening. We heard some of the staff having a loud end of shift drink at midnight, we asked the front desk if they could move their celebrations away from the balcony area, and sure enough it was done in literally a minute or two.

Breakfast was an absolute lifesaver. Over night oats in little jars were EXACTLY what I needed, and I was delighted to put one on my plate. All in all, we had a great stay, the staff are learning but they seem to take feedback on board instantly. I will 100% book again when I'm in the area.

Nice room and grounds. Very handy for the Uni. Ate in the brasserie which was reasonably priced and delicious. The young men who were front of house (dark hair European) and our waiter (tall with glasses) were particularly kind and attentive. Good breakfast

We booked into the hotel for a short stay. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Had a meal in the bar then went for a walk in the gardens. Was able to park close to the hotel and there was disabled parking and accessible rooms.

This is a hotel in two parts. The main building is a large former family home which was set in spacious grounds. There is also a very new and modern adjacent building which looks beautiful. We stayed in the main house. The hotel is now part of the University of Essex and stands on their Colchester campus. As a result, the former parkland now has university sports grounds and buildings but don't let this put you off.

They are separate from the hotel and do not intrude in any way. The dual nature of the hotel continues inside. The service is excellent because the hotel is part of the university's degree course. It has its own first class permanent staff and they are ably assisted by university students who are learning all aspects of the hotel/conference/event management.

It's impossible to tell the two apart. And because the students are learning their craft and the permanent staff are teaching them best practice, everything is done well. When we arrived at the entrance to the former park, we were surprised to find ourselves entering a spacious and rural university campus. We hadn't expected that. But don't be alarmed. It's all part of the charm of the hotel and we are definitely going to return.

Went here for our works Xmas do.the hotel is beautiful & our own staff decorated the conference room. But the buffet was a disappointment. Very basic food & everything was dry where it had been sitting uncovered for hours. Prawns were like tasteless bits of rubber same with chicken bites. Plus the drinks are expensive. I wouldn't recommend.

Absolutely Delightful! After two years of lockdown Birthdays, Our Dear Friend booked a table at Wivenhoe House for the four of us to have Lunch. What a treat! Beautiful surroundings in the Park with Golden Daffodils and the Perfect Sunny Day. The House is splendid with some beautiful features, I haven't stayed there because I live nearby but have been to some lovely Weddings in the past and Functions.

Our meal was in The Brasserie which has doors opening out into the garden. There was very nicely laid tables, with comfortable seating and it was warm and cosy. The Staff were welcoming, Polite, well trained and wore smart uniforms. We chose the set Lunch Menu which included starters and desserts. There was four choices for each course and and each course was beautifully presented and tasty! We all enjoyed our meals and can't wait to go back. Roll on the Summer when we can sit outside too!

A fabulous hotel. The staff here are super efficient, very approachable, friendly, humorous and welcoming. The food served in the Brasserie is beautifully presented and top quality. The serving staff are a credit. The rooms are comfortable, spacious and well appointed. We shall be back.

We had a lovely set lunch today. The Christmas decorations were amazing. The food was so lovely and great value for money. The staff were very friendly and professional. Plenty of parking. Lovely surroundings, probably great for walks. Highly recommend!

Christmas do at Wivenhoe house was amazing. Gorgeous food, beautifully presented. Room decorated nicely. And great DJ. Staff friendly and helpful and that for a little dance in the corridor. Our group could not fault it in any way and we all had a brilliant time. Thank you

Description of the hotel in general: - four star luxury hotel near Colchester- surrounded by beautiful parkland, forests and quiet lakes - located near the campus of the University of Essex; only few minutes from Colchester, Britain's oldest recorded town (10 min) - part of the hotel is an eighteenth century Grade II listed house, the other part is a new construction - the hotel offers a modern, award-winning brasserie open every day and a traditional afternoon tea served in elegant lounges in the main house Rooms: - free WiFi and parking area - had a room in the newly constructed part of the hotel: elegant and modern style, nice bathroom - nice view to the parkland, a terrace also belongs to the room - however, the room is not really spaceous - iMac computer for television/radio/internet in the room - tea and coffee making facilities - price: 305 GBP/2 nights/double room (breakfast included) Restaurant: - 2 different restaurants: Signatures restaurant serves traditional cuisine; Rosette brasserie restaurant in the garden wing serves creative dishes - did not try any of the restaurants for dinner, only for breakfast - breakfast: buffet very small (not too much choice); breakfast can be upgraded (with costs) - service okay but not too well educated for the standard the hotel pretends Service: - service at the reception was friendly but also not too well educated (three people are busy with checking in one guest) - questions about next bus stop etc. could not be answered by the staff at the reception Conclusion: Nice hotel (not as good as a four star hotel in London for example) but too expensive for the service offered and the room size! (for me it is between 3 and 4 stars because of the high price and more pretending to be than offering great service)
