If only the walls could talk. The White Hart has enjoyed a rich and varied history, since it was built in 1788 by local landowner John Buckley. From being the local police station, with the top floor used to lock up the prisoners in shackles, to a schoolhouse, then a weaver's cottage, the building was then used in the Second World War as a look out point, with the cellars a bomb shelter.
Our selection of menus have been carefully crafted, to offer guests a real range of gastronomy. Whether it's a light lunch or a beautifully cooked evening meal, to exquisite tasting menus on one of our themed events. The White Hart has a menu to suit all tastes. Seasonal, locally-sourced produce, which looks as good as it tastes.
Our luxury AA 4 star Gold Standard bedrooms are all individually styled to the highest standard. We have 12 bedrooms situated in the original building built in 1788, with a further 4 spacious family rooms located in The Cottage next door. Being perfectly nestled on the edge of the Pennines, there are some great views towards Manchester and the Cheshire plains to be admired, Lydgate weather permitting.
The White Hart is set in the rolling hills of Saddlewoth, located in the picturesque village of Lydgate, with incredible views across the Pennines. For your special day, nothing could be more idyllic than saying "I do" in one of our stunning rooms. With the ability to cater for small intimate weddings, or going all out with 200 guests, The White Hart is the perfect venue for any bridal couple's ceremony, wedding breakfast and evening entertainment. The Library is the smallest of our rooms, with the high ceilings and the Oak beams it makes a perfect setting for your civil ceremony and wedding breakfast.

We went for dinner, the quality of the food and service was excellent, my partners steak was cooked to perfection. My fish dish with samphire and mussel sauce was amazing. We shared a cheeseboard for dessert, my one tiny criticism would be some grapes with this would have rounded off everything perfectly.

Fabulous day for my daughters wedding. Food and staff and service perfect. Spoiled at the end of the night by the extremely rude bar manageress? Who refused to open the residents bar which had been guaranteed when booking the wedding, plus the whole of the hotel was booked out to wedding guests who were looking forward to continuing the celebration of such a fabulous day.

We were there for our friends wedding, the rooms were really nice worth the money the food on the other hand was not as advertised. At the wedding the staff were very young and inexperienced in table service and customer service with a few of them having a bad attitude when asking why other tables had been served but not ours. The breakfast "table service" cost 16 per head and was nothing but a self-serve buffet with us waiting for multiple items for over 15 minutes. Overall a great day/night only let down by the venue I would think twice when booking this venue.

Was not to sure because it was rump for Sunday lunch and not sirloin of beef which I love. We had the starters which I wouldn't recommend. Then the Sunday roast, and I have to say it's one of the very best I've had in years. The roast potatoes were better than my own. The gravy was genuinely from the beef. Quite expensive but well worth it. Would rather pay extra and they get it right.

We have been using the White Hart for the last 15 years although less over the last couple of years so it appeared a good choice for a family meal to celebrate my wife's birthday. The food was on the whole very average but one plate was inedible, my son ordered a rib eye from the grill, even with a serrated steak knife it was not possible to cut into.
Although they agreed to not charge for this one course there was no offer of an alternative or and other gesture such a complimentary drink which as he was a drinking small coke would not effect their margins. A shame really. The staff are polite and do try, maybe a new chef would help!

New Years Eve 31.12.21. Great night, great food and great company. Had their NYE package; meal, entertainment, drinks for 135 and was impressed with it all from start to finish. Special mention to kitchen and service staff. I thought the food was great, Beef Wellington was fantastic by the way. Portion sizes just perfect given it was 4 courses. Service staff worked tirelessly from start to finish collecting drinks, cleaning tables. To all at The White Hart "thank you". We had a really good evening.

I didn't like having to go outside and round to the front door to get the key for our room. If I hadn't been staying overnight it wouldn't have mattered because I would have been going to my car anyway but getting wet through and then having to go to the room like that was not my idea of fun. Having said that the staff were amazing except one who's job title shall be nameless.
The waiting staff that were all young people were brilliant. The meal at the wedding reception was lovely and again the young staff members were amazing and very polite and on the ball. It was a lovely place, our room was very comfortable and had a lovely view from the window which was at at the front of the Inn. The following morning again the young ladies that were front of house putting the buffet breakfast out were so polite and bright and breezy and very attentive. The reception staff were very helpful too.

Was taken here for lunch by a cousin who lives in Chadderton Very very smart decor Perfectly cask conditioned ales, hand drawn We ate from the a la carte menu rather than the lunch menu Bangers and Mash are about as good a gourmet take on the traditional English comfort food as you will ever get; local sausages with exquisite creamed potatoes & perfectly steamed green beans Fish & chips = amazing If you know good food you will appreciate this place and also know that the best food takes time and does not come cheap I'll be back

I attended a wedding here in August 2010, the place itself is beautiful but thats where it ends! The food was cold, not very nice & everybodys was different size portions. The buffet was the smallest sized butties you could imagine. The mens toilets were out of order & the ladies & disabled were filthy! As a guest i can only give my opinion i just hope the bride & grooms opinion were different as it was their day & they paid for it, but i would not recommend it!

If you like the look of a place, you go in right? You are interested, you want to see what is on offer and if the stories are true that this is really a fantastic place. So when inside, I felt uncomfortable as I was being looked at as though I had destroyed something. I was treated like dirt. And that was only because I had Ugg Boots on and my leggings and a simple top. O NO.
You have to be posh and reserved to be respected in this place. My friend had her reception here and I loved every minute but what I do not understand is the cold shoulder treatment when you just want to go in for a drink. I should have known better myself seeing all the Porches and possibly an Aston Martin outside! My mistake.

I have a had a place in my heart for the White Hart for quite a while, but over the last few years I can't help but feel it's become a little stale and my interest has waned. The food varies between decent and acceptable a little too often, and I can only describe the service as somewhat 'uninterested'. The air of traditional warmth is still there occasionally, but not enough for me to highly recommend. It's worth a try at least once as the building itself is nice and has some heritage. The prices are rather expensive too, which gives varied value-for-money, depending on the quality of the service and food on that particular night.

I went to the White Hart a few years ago as a wedding guest and found it was a really nice experience, we were well looked after, the food was excellent and the facilities were superb. I have been back several times since in the bar and foudn the place has no atmosphere you'd find in a traditional pub, the staff are less than helpful the beer is ok but very expensive and the seating in the bar is poor (the bench seats are impossible to get comfy on and the cushions slide off constantly).

I've heard mixed reviews about the White Hart at Lydgate over the years. So, on Friday just gone I took a party of seven to eat in the Brasserie. Bad idea! Service slow and unapologetic. Warmish food. We waited nearly an hour for the wine order to be taken. At which point they took the food order also. The starter arrived not long after thankfully.
Unfortunately by the time we received our main course we'd been there getting on for 2 hours. We were brought sorbet between starter and main. I think to keep us happy but still no explanation as to what was going on. The ingredients were good quality, just the execution was poor. We had three courses yet were still hungry since portions were small and did not include vegetables.
These were not offered to us and we realised once our mains arrived. Not exactly attentive service. As for good value, I bed to differ. You can get an excellent value meal in Manchester city centre which far exceeds what is on offer at the White Hart. If you want to stick closer to home, take yourself to Raineys on Ripponden Road, this offers excellent value, quality food and great service.

Sat in the hills above Oldham this is a interesting collection of stone-built buildings knocked through into an excellent bar, restaurant, hotel and wedding venue. The place has an excellent track-record, it has been Michelin listed for the last 12 years. There bar is traditional and old fashioned, and there are a number of different sized dining rooms all serving same excellent good value food.
The food is good value with 2 courses costing around 15-30 with the majority of the dishes at the low end of this range. The restaurant decor modern and the menu slightly more expensive. Both are get very busy, so booking in advance is recommended. The wine list is good with prices ranging from 15-45. Plenty of off-street parking and good views.
