There can be few town centre hotels that enjoy a setting such as ours. The crystal clear water of the River Wensum passes the hotel's front terrace, and a stream passes through the rear garden, and yet the busy market town of Fakenham, Norfolk is just 3 minutes walk away. The Mill was built around 1750 and, surprisingly, was still in operation on the late 1970s when it was converted into award-winning flats and penthouses.

I took my elderly mother away who has trouble in seeing. I asked if me and my daughter could share a room with her. The hotel did one better and organised an adjoining room which was perfect. The breakfast was enjoyable. The hotel is greatly located for Fakenham town and 11 minutes by car to the Thursford show. Staff were very friendly and helpful would use this hotel again.

My parents stayed for a weekend in one of the apartments. From the time they checked in to checking out they were looked after by the wonderful staff who couldn't do enough for them. The apartment was nice and clean and comfortable and they really enjoyed the breakfast. Thank you so much to Jason and his team for making them feel so welcome and looked after.

What a pleasant stay. Jason (proprietor) couldn't of been nicer. The rooms were clean and crisp with a comfy bed and freshly renovated bathroom with a strong shower. The meals were top notch and food value for money. We stayed for a work trip and it was very lst minute booking and the staff couldn't do enough for us. Lovely accomodating people. All covid restrictions adhered to and a very clean and friendly atmosphere. Well impressed

We stopped here for a cup of tea, on our way to Blakeney. It was a pretty setting, opposite the river. We used the on road parking, directly outside the venue but there may also be a car park. There's a small garden overlooking the river, with tables. We sat by the front door and the young lady was kind enough to bring us an umbrella, for shade. The service was fast and 2 cups of tea was 3.60. Just what we needed thank you.

Excellent stay as part of a golf trip. Well located for easy access to Cromer, Hunstanton, kings Lynn and West Norfolf courses. Good sized double room, evening drink sitting by the mill pond, great breakfast and friendly helpful staff. Walking distance to centre of village. Dog friendly as well. Everything you want at a very reasonable price.

This is the unanswered email I sent to the Wensum Lodge management. This is one of the worst and overpriced rooms I have ever stayed in. Having stayed in room 17 at the Wensum Lodge Hotel for 2 nights from 1 to 3 October 2020 my Wife and I were very disappointed. So much so, if I could have found an alternative at short notice we would not have stayed.
To be clear, having seen the pictures on your web site we were not expecting anything but a basic clean room. The 99 a night seemed a bit on the high side for what was on offer but then there isn't much competition in Fakenham. When we looked around the room there were several problems. Thick dust on one of the bedside cabinets, the light above the mirror in the bathroom and on other furniture.
I thought rooms were supposed to be deep cleaned in these covid times. Although with that level of dust the virus would have become inactive because of the length time it would have taken for this build up. The sink in the bathroom is cracked and the crack is black and an impossible area to clean properly. The window frame is dirty on the inside. The curtains are ill fitting and poorly hung.
There is such a thing as shabby chic - this is just shabby. The main bathroom light doesn't fire up on the first attempt. Sound proofing between the rooms is non existant. The fan in the bathroom is dirty. The Toilet doesn't flush properly needs 2 or 3 flushes to get rid of one piece of toilet paper. The shower head requires descaling. The mattress is past its best providing little support and badly stained.
The decor is old with chipped gloss and marks where the walls look like area have been touched up. The furniture and light fittings are again more shabby than chic, something which would be nearly acceptable if it were not for the other problems listed. We have photographic evidence of these problems and had we known that Mr Loates was at breakfast at the same time as we were we would have taken him up to the room and pointed out the problems.
We complained to the chef when we checked out. Considering the good decoration of the dining and bar area it is a shame the rooms seem to have been left behind. From the pictures the lodges look good also. The good points of our stay were breakfast which was delicious and the pleasant staff. Unfortunately this could not make up for the catalogue of problems.
Yours sincerely Kevin Walker It should be noted that the owners response does not address any of the issues. The owner had ample chance to contact me prior to my public posting of this review as I emailed and sent a private message on facebook. The inference that I only complained when asked to pay is fatuous as I was under the impression I had paid in advance and only queried the bill because of this.
I also am not sure what they could have done to rectify all the faults in our short stay. If they had a better room then why were we not in that room to begin with? When a customer complains is their prerogative.
