The Ship, a traditional coaching inn with rooms in the quaint village of Parkgate, Wirral. Our bar has an array of great local ales, quality wines and soft drinks. We also stock the usual and sometimes not so usual selection of whiskies, gins, rums and other tipples. Our buzzy atmosphere in the pub stems from our healthy mix of diners and those popping in for a drink or two. You can nestle into a cosy corner, relax in front of our open fire, or take in the stunning views over the Dee Estuary to the hills of North Wales.
Services
Parkgate is one of those places that seems to change very little over time and from historic photos it can be seen that other than a few retailers and provisioners that move on or change their name, the Parade remains instantly recognisable. We feel this untouched, almost timeless feel to Parkgate is what gives the place its charm.
Choose to enjoy a relaxing drink at The Ship in front of our open fire, nestled into one of our cosy corners or for those warm summer months then unwind outside on our heated terrace. Our bar offers a selection of local real ales, fine lagers, ciders, world wines and our large choice of soft drinks.
The Ship boasts pub dining at its best with our idyllic location, hearty menu and relaxing atmosphere. We serve traditional British pub classics alongside a number of creative seasonal specials. Our menu is freshly prepared using locally sourced ingredients (where possible) to both support local business and to showcase what the area has to offer.

Great location managed to park. Hotel looks fantastic after a recent refurbishment. Was looking forward to a Sunday lunch. Diane and I ordered pork loin roast, when it came it was cold, the roast potatoes where over done, green beans where hard, pork was tough just about managed to slice it, needed a steak knife. Both disappointed, on our first visit will go back to the Fox and Hounds where they know how to prepare and cook a Sunday roast.

Really disappointed with my visit here yesterday. Was excited to visit for a meal with my friend to see the new decor. That we couldnt fault and the terrace is beautiful. We had booked a table online. Stood around for 10 minutes, with many staff just wandering round and ignoring us before asking at bar where we sit. Food ordered, both went for the Sole at 15.95.
It was honestly the size of a starter, one piece of fish and id guess at one potato sliced. Asked if food was ok. Told the waitress we were extremely disappointed with size and still hungry after eating to which we got a shrug of the shoulders and no response. As we were still hungryhad to order dessert. I went for a cookie dough ice cream sundae at 6.95.
What came was a tiny bowl with one scoop of icecream, a few marshmellows and some broken up cinder toffee. Absolutely disgusted with the quality and size of portioms for the price. Will not be going back. Which is a shame as its a beautiful restaurant in a great spot and had spent many good times here previously.

My daughter and her boyfriend went to stay in our cottage in Parkgate last weekend. They went into The Ship and had an awful experience 2 nights running, the first night (Saturday) one of the female staff, girl in her 20's with long dark hair was extremely rude on 2 occasions and told them at 11.20pm to get out as she had the keys in her hand to lock up! (Her exact words).
Then they thought the next night they would give it a try again and 2 male members of staff were rude and unprofessional. I am starting to run an Airbnb but I certainly won't recommend this pub. They need to seriously look at their staffing and take a leaf out of The Red Lions book where the staff are really lovely and helpful

I wasn't going to review but not even asked in the morning how my stay was. So here it is. Room next to what I can only describe as a washing machine on constant. Building work going on early morning very noisy with the builders belting out "coming in the air tonight", then even though checkout was 11am the house keeper tried to come into room at 8am. Seriously! Need to sort out. Inc room and food I was rinsed for 158. Food though on a positive was great.

A memorable overnight stay. We got to the ship an hour early and they were able to check us in that little earlier which we appreciated. We headed upto our room navigating through narrow but charming hallways. We booked a double room which was nice and clean, presentable and spacious for an overnight visit. The decor was old but in keeping with the style of hotel, which was totally fine.
A broken bathroom lock and bed that was quite creeky, but is forgiving as we have only come out of a covid pandemic. We headed out to the bar area to grab a drink and look at the amazing view. There was a good one way system and mask wearing policy in place which felt well handled. At the bar was a large selection of draft beers and bottles. We had a few drinks outside and observed the wonderful wildlife before our dinner reservation in the restaurant for the evening for a birthday celebration.
There was a good selection of meals of the food menu, and drinks menu too. We ordered two courses, the starters took no time at all. The camembert sharing board was amazing quality and the artisan breads were very nice. Apparently the fish starters were wonderful. The mains came out in a good time considering there was a 20 min wait stated on the menu for one of the dishes we ordered.
All the mains were delicious, we thoroughly enjoyed. Polished with bottle of red rioja which was so good! Were had the opportunity to move outside after food to have coffee and some more drinks into the evening as we watched the sun set over the wonderful river dee. The breakfast was adequate, quite slow service in the morning as it took 40 mins to be served a full English. But it definitely set us up for the day and our travels home.

We enjoyed our stay at The Ship. It's an historic building, on the promenade of a quiet coastal village, with a lot of interesting local and nautical-related art and historic photographs throughout. Our en-suite room was small, as one would expect in an old hotel, but very clean and comfortable. The staff were pleasant and efficient. The food was good and there was a great breakfast menu. It's an ideal location for visiting Chester, Merseyside & North Wales. Lovely views over the Dee estuary. We'd certainly return.

Staff very friendly, polite and attentive. The pub has a great admosphere and layout, very welcoming. Overall, the food was very good, a good variety on the menu too. I had the calamari to start which was a little overdone and on the chewy side, but still tasted good. The steak and ale pie was very good, as was the fish and chips, decent generous portions. Looking forward to trying something else on our next visit.

Arrived at this pub on a cold wet June afternoon. had read online that this pub was dog friendly! 2 adults and a small very clean and well behaved chihuahua were told we could sit outside under the veranda, with hostile seagulls swooping outside and rain and wind.we declined! and this is dog friendly ha ha
