The Royal Oak Inn at Withypool is steeped in history. For centuries, people have been coming here to stay and to enjoy the delights of our 18th-century Inn here on Exmoor. We were very fortunate to have the 34th U.S. President - Dwight D. Eisenhower stay at The Royal Oak. He enjoyed riding on Exmoor and stayed in our suite at the top with views out over the beautiful countryside.

There are four different room types to choose from, the standard double with private facilities, deluxe doubles, superior double & superking/twin, the luxury king suite and luxury superking/twin rooms.

Food good but rather pricey. Fish and chips offered as either small 11.00 or large 14.00. Absolutely no difference in size of fish. They sometimes serve meals outside which must be nice, but it is only sat round the car park! So includes free fuel fumes.

We found this lovey place during a good dog walk. After ordering our drinks we were greeted and entertained by the perfect hostess, Imogen. She welcomed us and our dog to the pub with much enthusiasm. We will be returning for some food as the menu looked tasty and the vibe very welcoming.

On the way back from Dunster Castle we stopped here to get an ice cream. I noticed the large portions of chunky chips being served so I obliged too along with some cider. We were unexpectedly able to go to The Royal Oak without a reservation. Atmospheric pub/inn with an extensive menu and good beers. It is also special that they have a vegan menu for those who are interested. Excellent quality and price. Friendly staff. You immediately feel welcome. The pub is neatly furnished in accordance with Covid-19 requirements and there is a disinfection gel on every table. So good and worth repeating. Immediately booked again for tomorrow

Lovely village pub with friendly service and a nice outdoor seating area. We had hot drinks, cheesy chips and halloumi fries, the perfect pitstop on our 8 mile loop from Tarr Steps!

A lovely spacious and well-appointed room with a bath was just what the doctor ordered after a lot of walking on the moor. Followed by a very good dinner and couple of pints in the homely bar, with great service and a delicious breakfast set us up for our drive home, getting home just ahead of Storm Eunice. We'll be back! Thank you Tracey & the team for your excellent service.

Dropped in without booking with family of 5. They made us a space next to the wood burner, and the service was terrific, the food was amazing too. Best steak I've had in a long time.
