The Royal Hotel has a Scottish country house atmosphere with open fires and good local fresh Scottish cooking and is personally run by the owners, Janice and Neil Campbell. The hotel is set overlooking the harbour and enjoys stunning views of the Cromarty Firth and the Sutherland mountains. Relax and watch the fishing boats unload at the pier or the yachts at anchor in the bay.

Great place, warm and friendly welcome. Drink and food order taken straight away. The food arrived pipping hot and freshly cooked. I had the bacon burger with hand cut chips and my partner had the battered haddock with the hand cut chips, we shared a portion of onion rings - I was expecting 4 or 5 and we got 10+ Would definitely go back if in the area again

Came here for dinner tonight. Ordered a steak. This was a mistake. It's not hard to get steak right, particularly Scottish steak. But it was tough, grey and tasteless. The peppercorn sauce was bland gravy mixed with pepper. Not even pepper corns. Just pre ground pepper. The steak wasn't flame grilled either. And to top it all off, we weren't given any steak knives so my plate went wandering round the table quite a bit. Pleasant atmosphere and staff were friendly.

Not very friendly to vegan customers, with a pretty rude attitude about it, and without going into it all, I get the distinct feeling "our sort" are not too welcome in there. If you go in for a coffee and don't want / can't drink cow's milk, then take your own unfortunately. Must be the last place in the highlands that doesn't cater to plant-based customers, but you have the slaughterhouse cafe along the road with a range of options for coffee, or sutors always have a vegan option around the corner so you won't be stuck. Pity as it's a nice place wth a great view. Fish and meat eaters will love it I'm sure, and be welcomed more than I was.
