The Rose & Crown is privately owned by the Robinson family who have farmed in Teesdale for four generations. Thomas Robinson and particularly his wife, Cheryl, take an active role in the day-to-day running of the Rose & Crown along with a great team of local staff who all play a key role in the high quality yet relaxed style of service offered. Since purchasing the Rose & Crown in late 2012 there has been continual investment in both the front house and back house facilities with an emphasis on using local suppliers and trades.

This attractive single storey stone building is located to the rear of the main inn next to the car park area and offers a little more independence. Its five rooms have a more contemporary style with lovely artwork and the perk of a sheltered outside sitting area for each room. This superior double room enjoys a seperate dressing room and en-suite wet room with a spacious walk-in shower (no bath). With nice earthy tones this superior double room offers very comfortable accommodation and has an en-suite bathroom with bath & shower.

There are two rooms in this charming 17th century cottage that is just around the corner from the main house approx. 30 metres and looks over the green to the magnificent Saxon church. It has a country-contemporary feel to the decor but oozes character with big ceiling beams, exposed stone walls and plenty of opportunities to bang your head!
We love dogs at the Rose & Crown and they are welcome to stay in the majority of our bedrooms but please let us know in advance so we can be sure to have things ready for you. Dogs are also welcome in the bar area on a lead. The Courtyard rooms lend themselves particularly well to dog owners as they have their own direct outdoor access and you can park your car close by.

Up in the area visiting daughter and husband and usually eat at Headlam Hall. This pub restaurant is owned I believe by the same people, so thought to try here for a change. Good menu choice with specials available as well. Lovely service and the food was really good.three courses and no disappointments with any. Good wine choice but would have preferred greater beer choice, only Black Sheep and Wainwrights on tap, but no hardship. Will come again

We stayed for the night with our dog as a weekend break for my birthday. The staff were the very professional and so friendly; it made us feel so at ease. Also, the staff have a genuine love of dogs which means all three of us had a great time. In terms of eating, the food is incredible and the menu was excellent. Finally, the surrounding area is really beautiful and there are any number of walks ranging from beautiful river-side paths with waterfalls to fell-top adventures with stunning views. Thanks for a great weekend!

Totally dog friendly. Our dog was treated as a guest which made our stay great. Loved the fact they gave us a rug for our dog to lie on and that there was a dog towel, bowl and treats in the room. Room was perfect, away from the main building so access to the outside was easy. Lovely atmosphere in the room and the additional touches were very thoughtful. The staff were so friendly and helpful. Food, beer and wine excellent! Great walks from the door and situated in a beautiful village. We will certainly return.
