Me and my partner used the spa and stayed at this hotel yesterday, I would totally recommend staying here! When we arrived at the spa Larissa showed us where to go and made us feel so welcome. Then the massage by Katie was amazing and also gave me advice about my skin condition which I was so concerned about for no reason what so ever! The hotel Alex was so helpful and showed us to our room which was beautiful. Jack on the bar was first class service and Paul went above and beyond to make my stay perfect ( even stayed later trying to find an extension which he found for me ).
We are even now considering having our wedding here in 2024/2025 which they even introduced us to the wedding planner who was lovely! Very reasonable for price and the food was remarkable, they should charge a lot more because of the service you get! Thank you for everything and see you again very soon! Kind regards Dan and Sarah

Had 2 night break, DBB. Excellent service. Staff friendly and obliging. Spacious, clean room with ample storage and comfortable bed. Hotel in old building, creaky uneven floors eyc. Great food and quirky bar with unique murals, and roaring log fire. Lovely food in restaurant and also in bar. Spa is luxurious and treatment v relaxing. If being picky, would have expected more toiletries in room eg hair conditioner and body lotion, but there was lots of shower gel and shampoo. Dogs are welcomed in bar and hotel which doesnt suit me, but is great for dog owners! Highly recommended.

Do not book spa! Twice now I've booked on for friends and family as gifts both times cancelled last minute with no notice. Lied about power outage when I live in the area. Guess what no power out anywhere else. Had family and friends turn up tonight, staff didn't bother to call or email them just said nothing was available. This place used to be good.
Living in reeth I used to come all the time. It's very poor now. If you want a good experience go somewhere better. This has also happened to a friend. When staff want to go home, they lie out about power out.

Stayed overnight here as near where I had to be in the morning. Had a late lunch of sandwiches and chips when we arrived and very nice filling they were freshly made everyone enjoyed them. Talked to reception and had a walk in the afternoon and went to where the rivers met under the a66 and through some fields. The Al a caete dinner was very tasty a chicken supreme dish and came with a side of in season vegetables, and followed by a chocolate orange desert that was very nice, mind you the sticky toffee looked very nice as well. The breakfast in the morning was a nice buffet option that included a full cooked breakfast part, a shame it hadn't been longer since dinner

Bedrooms were freezing cold, heating didn't work, hot water in the mornings was limited, the ladies loo opposite reception stank of urine, my son's bathroom also smelt of urine. It's a 2/3 star hotel at best. Carpets in the rooms are dirty the entire hotel needs a great deal of renovation, wouldn't recommend or stay again. Thank god we only used it for a stop over.

The hotel itself is lovely and the food was very nice but the room I got was not worth the money I paid and I found the bar staff disinterested giving me the impression that they would rather be somewhere else but there. Back to the room, I paid 95 for a double which had 15% knocked off as I am a frequent traveler with booking.com so the room is usually 108.
It was that small I felt I was in the staff quarters. They provided a hairdryer yet there was no mirror to use and they provided an ironing board with no iron. No bedside lamp or sockets by the bed and the main light had two out of its three bulbs missing. I like to be fair and I think I am being fair giving it three star rating but it was not what I expected from a 4 star hotel.

Great location, beautiful building, lovely scenery and quiet, which was surprising as it's quite close to the A66. Had lunch in the bar on Friday while driving to Scotland - a good break. Tried to the same thing on Saturday a week later and no lunches being served - curious. Will call ahead next time - but will go again if passing.

I wish I had the foresight to read the other reviews before booking this hotel. The main reason I booked this hotel was because they show up on Booking.com as a hotel with an electric car charger station. I couldn't find this information on any of the apps to confirm so rang a couple of days before my stay to ensure it was correct. Upon speaking with reception, they told me it was first come first served situation with the station.
I made the decision to book as I knew I'd be low on charge when we got to the hotel. Pulling up at the hotel in the evening I thought I was in luck as the charging spot was empty. I pulled in and knew something was wrong. The station wasn't lit up and upon trying to get the machine to work I realised I'd been given false information earlier in the week when I checked if they had one as they failed to mention it didn't work.
When I checked-in, I asked about the charger and I was told it hadn't worked for a while. I told them how I'd called only a few days ago and checked they had one and this very important piece of information was omitted. On to the room. The room and furniture are fine however everything needs a good dusting. The chandeliers are covered with dust and spiders webs. Yes, the TV has hardly any channels but that doesn't really matter as you don't stay in a hotel to watch something you could at home.
Where I've increased the score from 1 star to 2 is because of the restaurant. They accommodated our dietary needs well and this extended to breakfast too. A saving grace. Checking-out we were asked about our stay, I thought I'd be honest and say I wasn't happy with the car charging station situation and would now need to hope I could find another charger before the car died.
The exact words were "well there's Barnard Castle". Pointing out I only booked my stay because of the charger, I was told it's been broken for ages and they're trying to get it replaced. No recognition Or apology for the massive inconvenience and that I'd have to go and sit somewhere and charge when it should have been done overnight. No apology that Booking.com still believe they offer a charger.
I suggested they update Booking.com so others don't fall foul of this like me she stated she'd already done this. Maybe they should update the staff too so they don't incorrectly advise customers to.

We booked the Morritt for a 2 night stay on the way to Scotland for the first part of our honeymoon. Our initial thoughts on the look of the hotel were good, as the outside & the lobby/bar area looked really lovely. Even though we arrived in time for check-in, our room still wasn't ready so we had to wait (not really an issue). However, we were then taken to our room which was one of the 'cottages' round the back & we were extremely disappointed.
It was totally not as expected & definitely not 4* or worth the 100 a night we were paying. We spoke to reception who were very helpful, and asked for a room in the main hotel. After being shown a 2nd room which was still not great, we were then upgraded to a much larger (nicer) room which we were happy with. The hotel does seem to have a few issues, especially with housekeeping, as the rooms were not quite cleaned to the best standard, and items were missing off the hospitality tray.
The toiletries in the bathroom were also mostly empty & we only had half a roll of toilet paper to last 2 days. The only positive is that the breakfast was really nice & there were gluten/dairy free options available for my partner. The staff were also very lovely but very overworked. I do think the star rating of the hotel needs to be reviewed & someone at the top of management needs to sort the situation out, before more staff leave & before the hotel gets more unhappy customers.

Nice hotel and great breakfast. Near very busy road despite rural setting. Nice spa. Service in restaurant is awful though. Young and pleasant staff struggling to cope. 2 out of 3 meals arrived, mistakes with bill, staff forgetting that we had paid 3 minutes earlier. Food was average. Service well below what is acceptable.

The Morritt is a classy, up market Hotel, restaurant and bar. We sometimes treat ourselves to Sunday lunch here and we are always impressed. Obviously priced above a standard restaurant thou defiantly not over priced at all. I think we pay something daft like about 3 more per head what is well worth it. Check the website out for the menu. Even thou it is classy, the staff are always friendly, polite and obliging unlike some smart places were they can make you sometimes feel out of place and making you feeling uncomfortable when they look at you down their noses. The Morritt or the Morritt arms is a warm, friendly and relaxed place what is well worth visiting.
