When I made the room reservation at this 4 star hotel I was asked if I would like to make a reservation for dinner. I said I would and was then asked if we would like to eat at their pub which had a casual atmosphere or the more formal dining room. I asked for the pub option and was told the reservation would be made. On arrival I asked what time I had made it for as I couldn't remember if it was 7:15 or 7:30 and was told that there was no reservation.
I was treated as though I had not made a reservation and was now trying to remedy it by blaming the staff member who had made the room reservation. I pointed out that I would not have known that there were two options if I hadn't been making the reservation but this was ignored. I was then told that that the pub was closed and the dining room fully booked.
Only after kicking up a big fuss was I offered dinner in the lounge which was obviously not ideal but better than no dinner at all. They eventually seated us in the dining room and we had a truly excellent dinner. What really annoyed me was that they had obviously decided to close the pub but hadn't bothered to inform guests who had reservations and then to make it worse tried to make out that it was the guest's fault. Not the way I would expect to be treated at a hotel with a 4 star rating. I will never visit this establishment again which is a great pity as the food served was excellent.

Second time we have eaten evening dinner at Monty's. It's was luvly with fresh veg and tasty sauces. The waiters were friendly, attentive and a credit to the hotel. The hotel itself is such a beautiful building in a beautiful spot. Thanku so much for a luvly evening. We will definitely be back. Keep up the good work.

Absolutely shocking service for a hotel if this standard. Phoned to book afternoon tea in the morning for same afternoon - given verbal confirmation of the booking. My mum travelled over from the Isle of Wight and we got to hotel and was told they had no booking. Told it was probably at their sister hotel (which is ridiculous as I booked via the non central telephone number on their website). I called the same number back and they checked their sister hotel for reservations, but nothing made there either. Cross doesn't begin to describe the poor service. Avoid.

Was looking forward to a quick bite here and were quite disappointed. Three of us went and two were less than impressed. Food portions were tiny. I had the welsh raebit which was thinly spread on a piece of bread the size of a cream cracker. Was tasteless too although presented nicely. The other person had soup which was bland and best bit was there was no bread or roll to accompany it.
We realized after that there was bread on the menu at 4 a slice.! Dont they say you get what you pay for. well we surely didn't. I'm local and wont be going back or recommending. We usually eat in Beaulieu high st and always enjoy ourselves. Everywhere was full so treated ourselves to Monty's or so we thought. Not great

Booked in for a birthday Sunday lunch and expected a wow experience with the food considering a named chef leading the kitchen (Matthew Whitfield). Oh dear. Food was ok for a pub experience but the Montagu gives the impression of being more. Staff seemed overwhelmed (and we overheard that a number have moved on). Location is very nice but you don't come to eat the garden so I'm sorry to say I wouldn't make the effort to return.

The birthday meal for my niece was disgusting, you need to get a new chef. It wasn't just my opinion there were quite a few who felt the same but didn't want to say anything as it would have spoilt her birthday celebration and if it was left up to me I wouldn't pay a penny towards the meal. So needless to say I will not be attending your premises in the future. The beef was raw, Yorkshire puddings solid vegetables cold and as for the cheese and biscuits they tasted like soap I have stronger cheese at home.

Lovely weekend trip to a beautiful location. Building stunning. Room was very comfortable with everything you could need. Even though we were at the front no noise at all. Staff friendly and made us feel very welcome. The hotel had a very warm and cozy feel, fires burning in the grate sumptuous furnishings and country hotel decoration. Would highly recommend.
