Services
All rooms are en-suite with bath or shower and are individually furnished with a choice of twin, standard double or king-size beds, each named after central charactors from the Lorna Doone novel. Equiped with colour TV and tea/coffee making facilities. Cots, shoe cleaning kit, sewing kit and iron & Ironing board available for guests on request.
The area has many links with several romantic poets and it's argued that RD Blackmore partly wrote Lorna Doone staring from the window of the original building. The novel is based around historical characters in the late 17th century and incorporates real events and places into a story of forbidden love amongst feuding families.
Porlock features throughout R.D. Blackmores novel. Porlock Town where people from the surrounding villages would come and do their shopping, also said to be the place where John Ridd witnessed the murder of his father. If you enjoy walking, riding or cycling there are many well market paths and bridleways to follow.

Poor attitude of Hosts. I cannot agree with all the 5* reviews on here. Our room (4) was cramped and dated and we found the managers intimidating and unwelcoming. Maybe when everything is running smoothly they come across differently but this is a dated hotel and our room had a particularly low bed that I have never seen in any hotel or B&B before, so no use to anyone with any kind of mobility problem eg. bad back, knees, arthritis etc. and when drawing the problem to the managers attention he left me feeling intimidated and offered no solution! We swapped accommodation with my daughter and she wasn't impressed either.

Excellent food, atmosphere and service. We called in for a drink one evening when camping near Porlock and thought it was lovely, so booked a table for another night (as they were full). We had an excellent meal, with very good wines and great service. Fish starters and mains were delicious, followed by beautiful homemade pudding and cheese & biscuits. We had a really nice chat with the owners and thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. We would definitely go again if we are in the area.

Had dinner here with my family last week. Service was excellent and food was also very good. Well presented and great quality. My only notable improvement for the owners would be to allow for some sort of adaption for children. There is no children's menu which I don't have a problem with but it would have been helpful for a dish to be served as a half portion. Overall very nice :-

The hotel is in a good location, the staff were friendly and the food was very good however the standards of cleanliness had a lot to be desired. The communal areas were not very clean, the carpets needed hoovering more regularly and crumbs removed from table tops. The room we had was on the small side although well equipped. The shower in the bathroom had mould/mildew around the bottom. Overall our stay was comfortable but the hotel was a little shabby.

Nice little hotel. Reasonable rates but don't expect city standard rooms as this is a little village hotel, very reliant on seasonal trade. Very welcoming staff and the food is great. Very relaxing, friendly hotel in a picturesque Exmoor village. Car parking is limited so you may have to park 100 metres away in the village car park.
