I was treated to an afternoon tea by my friend as a birthday gift. She was a little disappointed when we arrived as we were in the bar rather than the dining room but the staff more than made up for it! We were offered a choice of seating by Carl and his colleague. We chose a table in the breakfast room. The service was excellent, they were polite, friendly and attentive the whole time.
The food itself was beautifully presented and exquisite. Everything was f43shly made, including the homemade jam for the most delicious scones I have ever tasted. The choice of cakes and pastries was perfect. My favourite being the tiny Eton mess tart. We passed on our compliments to chef Christina when she visited our table not once but twice to check everything was to our satisfaction.
She was genuinely interested in our opinions on the food. All in all it was a lovely, chilled, relaxing afternoon. We felt welcomed and there was no pressure to rush to leave. We even made new friends! I would definitely recommend and will be visiting again. Thank you once again to Carl, Christina and the waiters.

My daughter booked afternoon tea after she finally graduated from Nottingham University 2 years late. I'm not a fan of afternoon teas but I have to say this was probably the nicest one I've had, even tops The Biltmore in Mayfair London (which I won). The food was very tasty and enough of it that you didn't feel hungry afterwards or too full. The staff were excellent and very attentive without being over the top, the chef even came out to see what we thought of the selection which we all said was just right. I would highly recommend the afternoon tea as the service and food were excellent. Thank you for a perfect end to a very special day.

An unfortunate occurrence since we were really looking forward to staying. It wasn't one thing that spoiled it but a combination of many small things. Arriving and locating the hotel was easy enough, booking in was easy and the receptionist was cheerful and pleased to welcome us. The room was delightful and fresh and clean. The issues started when we went for a meal having upgraded to include this.
The bar attached to the hotel were obviously under staffed as we were shown where our table was rather than being taken to it. The waiter knew we were on a time frame but we still had to wait over 10 minutes for him to come and take our order. When he did the starter I asked for I was advised was off the menu since they'd run out and the menu was being changed the next day which I thought was unusual for a Thursday.
The soup of the day which I ordered instead tasted like a tin of canned soup with added tinned tomatoes and some spinach to try and adjust it. My main of grilled lamb chops were overcooked but somehow they managed not to render the fat out of them. My partner ordered the mushroom tagliatelle which she said was delicious but it was then served with a greek salad (a very odd combination).
We didn't get chance to order dessert since we'd run out of time. On returning from our concert the above was mentioned to the night manager who was having to deal with a full bar and only the bar manager to help. The following morning after a good nights sleep we tried to bathe but there was little cold water coming through in either the bath or the shower and we aren't partial to 2nd degree burns first thing in the morning so decided to have breakfast.
This was our second mistake of the morning. I have never had such an apathetic full English in my life. The sausage was about 2 inches long, when I enquired about the missing black pudding I was informed they'd run out and would I like another short sausage to compensate? For a 4 star hotel to come round with a thermos of mediocre coffee just added to the situation and our spirits had joined the breakfast in the apathy, so much so that we couldn't actually be bothered to finish them.
There were more surprises to come when settling the bill. I knew we'd had some wine on returning to the hotel the evening before but was presented with a bill for 298. I asked to see an itemised bill and noted we had been charged 78 for dinner the night before and a bar tab to go with it of 57 (that's a very expensive pint and single G&T). I will give the concierge his due as he corrected the bill.
I did advise I would be leaving a mediocre review as everywhere has an off day and I dislike giving negative reviews. It is unfortunate this occurred and I really wanted to love the stay. I have been advised they are refurbishing over the next 12 months and will stay again after they have finished to hopefully have a much better experience.

Had afternoon tea, good experience, Carl and Christina looked after all our needs and both obviously love the work that they do. The sandwiches and cakes were first class, and the door with all of the signatures of the famous guests that had stopped at the hotel was a great idea. Thank you to both of you for a satisfying and interesting afternoon

Can't speak for the hotel but their bar is exceptional. Jimmy and Silvia work very hard to curate a great menu of interesting, refined and classic drinks, all made in a welcoming, relaxing friendly environment. I hope their new management allow them to continue at their best as they are the easiest recommendation in Nottingham for drinks.

My son rented a room with his girlfriend at the Lace market hotel and went to a concert at the arena. Unfortunately both of them where spiked at the concert and my son was missing. I went to the hotel trying to look for him and the night manager and the barman where amazing! The night manager given the situation and my dispair took me and my son girfriend to the bedroom to see if my son was there, we where able to find him in realy bad state on the stairs near room.
The night manager rushed to get some water botles and offered to carrie my son down stairs as he wasnt walking or talking, gave him a chair and some tissues while he was getting some air amd my husband was parking the car to come and help me. They where really patiente, understanding and helpfull. I cant thank you enough!

We visited for an afternoon tea. Myself and daughter and 5 year old granddaughter. We were taken care by Carl and he was very attentive. The afternoon tea was one of the best one's I have had and it was my granddaughter's first and with how she was spoilt with everything I'm sure it won't be her last. Thank you Carl for looking after us so well. Xx

Went for afternoon tea and the food was decent enough, exactly what you'd expt from afternoon tea (plus a milkshake which was a bit unusual!). But the service from the gentleman who looked after us whilst we were there was the thing which sets it apart from other places and made our visit the most enjoyable. He radiated positivity and nothing was too much trouble, a true asset to the hotel!

Sooo much nicer than the chain hotels. Lovely welcome. Clean, fresh, well maintained and great service. Rooms are tasteful. Great feel to whole of place. For the extra star I'd love to see the shower raised so tall people can get under it, basin taps are very strange as they are in the worktop which makes them awkward and get wet, and some better coffee and better quality sausages in the breakfast. But we loved this hotel and it will be our goto choice for Nottingham.

Lovely hotel, close to the center and many attractions. Room was pleasant and clean. Water and treats were served along with general refreshments in the room. Breakfast was tasty and good quality, just a shame the waffles were bought in and not homemade. The adjoining pub had a wide selection of beers, the menu was limited but great quality.
