The Glen Yr Afon House Hotel

View from my room was a wheelie bin, rubbish bags and a feral cat living in a tomato case. Weather was hot so we kept the windows open, which was not pleasant when the room filled with cigarette smoke from a staff member smoking below. Not what you would expect when you pay neay 200.

Lovely hotel - slightly dated decor but spotlessly clean and all lovely staff. Lift out of action but we only had overnight bags. Breakfast and dinner last night - great! Well worth going just for food!

Wow! What an amazing hotel, immaculately clean, AMAZING food, brilliant friendly attentive staff, would give more than 5 stars if I could, in a beautiful village perfect location, would 100% reccomend, loved our stay,

Great location. Imacculate surroundings. Slighlty dated decor to give that character feel but still very modern room. Very close to River Usk only across the street. Walking distance to town and a short drive away to Brecon for a day trip. I would recommend this hotel if visiting South Wales.

The staff is great but the hotel is in a real need of refresh, both room and bathroom were a bit depressing. We had dinner first night at the restaurant and in my opinion it was really overpriced for what you get. Next night we had a lovely dinner in town for half the price.

The hotel is definitely the best in Usk. The staff were attentive and very friendly. The hotel itself was very clean and it is obvious that the staff care deeply about its appearance and keep it (and the service) to a higher standard. The hotel grounds are well presented and it is a nice addition that it is dog friendly. The breakfast is great and again is complimented by great service.

There is not a lot to dislike but fair warning, if the weather is nice the rooms do get very hot at night (especially on the top floor) but a fan is provided that we ran all night.

Food here is excellent good choice menu. My party all chose something different & everything came well cooked well presented & hot. Good desserts too. The choice for a full cooked breakfast was also very good. Would recommend & hopefully visit again.

We had our wedding here in January 2022, it was the most amazing day, highly recommend the venue, such attention to detail, we were so well looked after, everything went perfectly. Food was amazing, staff were awesome, although we didn't stay, the room myself and my bridesmaids used to get ready was beautiful. Can't wait to come back and stay for our anniversary!

Had my baby shower here, really happy, friendly helpful waiter, food was lovely & absolutely loads of it! We all took a box home! Would definitely return here, sorry if we were a bit loud!

We stayed a night in the Lodge which is lovely - a real home from home with a very well equipped full kitchen! The only thing I can find fault with is the double bed mattress - it could do with being replaced, it had practically no support at all.

We have stayed at this hotel on numerous occasions and have always been delighted with everything. All the staff are welcoming and friendly and the breakfast is superb! One staff member in particular has always been most helpful is Sue, who is one of the members of the waiting staff team for breakfast - Sue always makes our stay that extra bit better with her fabulous service.

We stayed for the first time on Saturday 6th November in The Cottage which is in the grounds of the hotel - it was excellent and for 4 persons a very good price with breakfast included. There's a kitchen (fully stocked) 2 upstairs bedrooms a dining area and a separate lounge - everything was spotlessly clean and I'd recommend this hotel and The Cottage without hesitation. If there was one minor detail that could make it even better it would be to have a larger TV in the lounge with SKY or equivalent channels available, but 5* all the way.

We found this little gem in Usk and feel very fortunate to have booked a 5 night stay at the last minute. Lovely hotel and grounds * warm welcome* Lovely comfortable room with deep bath* superb dining* excellent service and attention to detail*. An elegant and meticulously maintained hotel in picturesque surroundings. The staff are an asset to this lovely place - so courteous, professional, friendly and attentive. The room was very comfortable and we slept very well. Our room didn't have a view of the gardens, but with the window opened, we were lulled to sleep by the soothing sound of the water fountain in the little courtyard below, which compensated. We didn't try the hotel restaurant this time but had breakfast and it was very good. Its a very "grown up" hotel and we can see why it would be perfect for weddings.

This Hotel Is Perfect In Every Way As A Wedding Venue! Delighted to say that all the family and friends who attended our wedding were impressed with the highest standards of hotel hospitality. The welcome is genuine, the will to do well and provide guests with every comfort and convenience is sincere. Carol was our Wedding Manager and communicated with us throughout the planning process. Sultan took charge on the big day and guided us through every step of the day with courtesy and ease of a practiced professional. James ran the bar and catered for the needs of all generations with cheerful, polite efficiency that never faltered.

Indeed all the staff who attended to us over the two days were delightful and helpful. Catering and food quality were exceptional throughout our stay. The bar was stocked to suit all tastes and needs. The hotel is spotlessly clean and Covid restrictions are managed with due care and attention - happily reassuring. The venue itself is a little piece of heaven on the banks of the River Usk. All I can say is a heartfelt thanks to one and all who worked with us to make our special occasion such a success. Happy memories that will stay with us forever.
