Services
The West Usk Lighthouse is an intimate wedding venue and historic home, situated near the City of Newport, Gwent. The building itself is over 200 years old and overlooks the junction of the Severn and the Usk estuaries, which lead to the Bristol Channel. We offer weddings and events - up to 80 guests, as well as accommodation in 'The Light-Keepers Watch'.
The West Usk Lighthouse was built in 1821 by Scottish architect, James Walker. It was his first venture, and later went on to build another 21 lighthouses. The Lighthouse was on its own island up until 1856 when the land was reclaimed around it and a road was built. It served as a real lighthouse warning ships right up until 1922 when it was decommissioned.
Due to the pandemic, we have decided to no longer offer accommodation inside the lighthouse itself (as it is also our home!). However, we are pleased to say we are offering accommodation in 'The Light-keeper's Watch' (formerly referred to as the Lodge/Floatation Room). There are plenty of attractions to visit and restaurants to dine at nearby.

I travelled there to drop of customers attending a wedding. The place looks lovely. But the roads are disgusting. Full of pot holes. Unsafe in my own opinion to drive there. Road needs major changes. Holes need filling. I was one of 6 drivers who went down there. I will not return the next time. Stop have way when it turns right. Make customers walk to you. 2 other drivers inknow. Agree with me and said they would return the job to office next time. As it is not worth doing it with the risk to my vehicle.

Stayed at the West Usk Lighthouse for my mother in law's wedding, and we could not have been happier! The location is stunning, and the lighthouse oozes character and charm. The hosts are extremely welcoming and very helpful, nothing was to much trouble. The star of the show.breakfast! Quality is outstanding, and portion sizes that meant I had to undo a button! We will most definitely be returning.

My husband and I spent our wedding night here a couple of years ago & ventured back for a helicoptor ride a fortnight ago. We love quirky and interesting architecture and were totally enamoured by the opportunity to spend the night in a lighthouse. We booked to stay in the water bed room which was very tastefully decorated, but we also had the rest of the place to ourselves.
The roof top terrace with hot tub and BBQ has spectacular views over the estuary and beyond. The facilities are generally spot-on. Frank was incredibly hospitable and made us a delicious English brekkie in the morning. We also took a shining to his Border Collie dog, who was exceptionally cute! We will definitely be coming back to show the place to our son!

We had our daughter Charlotte and her husband Clayton's wedding at The Lighthouse on 17th August 2019. It was a wonderful location and Frank and Danielle were so helpful in making it such a memorable day. The newlyweds really wanted the ceremony on the rooftop and the family carried enough seating for 40+ people up 2 flights of steps to allow this to happen. The accommodation and views are stunning and the breakfast made by Julian was first class. Just perfect. Thanks for everything Frank and Danielle.

Absolutely unique. We were made so welcome by Julian, owner Frank and the gorgeous waggy tailed Archie. Our whole weekend felt special with such a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. The hot tub, with its spectacular views, is phenomenal and to be recommended day and night! Our room was fabulous, with the sea gently coming and going right outside our windows. Julian's breakfasts were perfect and on Saturday we treated ourselves to Vicky's delicious steakhouse experience, (a short walk away), and loved hearing about the Wedding barbecues she has hosted at the Lighthouse.
We visited Tintern Abbey and walked up to the Devil's Pulpit to justify another indulgent hot tub soaking. Thank you so much. You are as unique as your Lighthouse. We hope to return to such a rare and perfect relaxing mini break.

Thanks Frank and team for a wonderful stay this weekend. You were a most charming host and the lighthouse is a wonderful place to stay. We stayed in the Cabin room which was very charming with lots of thoughtful decoration and a very comfy bed. It's the smallest room in the place but has incredible views over the water and the sun came pouring in, in the morning.
The breakfasts were epic. We enjoyed long walks along the sea defences to various pubs and there are some enjoyable local sights including the very nicely restored and staffed Tredegar House. Thanks again
