A lovely meal here, prices were good and the food was delicious. I had the blue cheese and bacon burger and my partner had the steak which was cooked to perfection. Lovely sides of skin on fries and chunky chips. Serving staff were polite and attentive but certainly not pushy. Would definitely recommend

Massively disappointing. The George is a lovely old building in a great location but the hotel stay and service were pretty awful. It needs massive investment and is very poorly managed. Our family booked 3 rooms for 2 nights and we a hired a large room for an event. Our room looked OK except for an uncomfortable bed and a very small bathroom but it was exceptionally noisy and unbearably hot.
The hotel air con doesn't work and even the open window and fan could not overcome the exceptional heat which appeared to come from the kitchen extractors. After a very uncomfortable night we complained to reception who showed complete indifference but eventually after further complaining (and support from a very helpful lady in housekeeping) moved us to another room for the second night.
The second room didn't lock, the floorboards made the most amazing noises when you walked on them, and the drunkards next door shouted and swore most of the day but at least we could sleep at night. The other bedrooms were both sensible temperatures, although sleep was elusive given the party and loud music going on in the pub opposite. Breakfast on day 1 was a farce - the staff lacked basic customer service and did the minimum necessary to get people in and out of the restaurant - getting a table, drinks, food and table clearing were a challenge.
The breakfast was edible, not great and looked nothing like the pictures on their website! A real let down. Thank God on day 2 it was a completely different breakfast team on service who were excellent, on top of everything and making sure the guests were looked after, a completely different experience. However, the lack of consistency or any management standards was very disappointing. Drinks in the bar were poor and they were unable to cater for quite basic requirements.
Our event however went well, the Garrick room is lovely, and the staff did a good job serving drinks, catering was OK (very basic and edible) but despite spending a lot of money on the rooms and event no one ever asked how it was going or seemed to care. On checking out, no one asked how our stay had been and they messed up the payments, but by then we were just glad to leave.
A real shame as we have fond memories of the hotel having visited many times before and want them to thrive, we can forgive the quirky rooms and faded charm, but we paid a lot of money to stay in a hotel that lacks basic comfort, customer service or any form of management.

Room very clean and breakfast superb. I was here for 3 weeks on and off for work and each stay there was a wedding which didn't really make for decent sleep after long hours at work. I was also at no point ever asked by any staff how my stay had been which I found very odd. Would stay again but not for work as if you need to be up early and are back late and just want to shower and sleep it's not ideal if there are wedding guests up and down in and out of their rooms until the early hours.

Loved this hotel. Excellent location, walking distance to everything, lovely cafes, pubs, restaurants, shops, lakes, gardens and the amazing Cathedral all very close, less than 5 minutes walk. Comfy beds, quiet and clean rooms, delicious breakfast served in a lovely restaurant area, great bar, nice outdoor area with fairy lights and a fountain. Welcoming friendly staff. Nothing bad. Stayed longer than we planned. Loved it!

The George Hotel is a friendly place to stay. The staff were all very polite. The hotel is very clean with a good atmosphere. The rooms are a good size and the shower is one of the best that l have used. The breakfast was excellent with all you can eat and good quality. I would definitely stay there again. It is a great place to stay for looking around Lichfield and the local area. We were there for a 60th birthday party in the function room and the buffet was excellent as were the drinks which were reasonably priced.

We went to a wedding here and I was impressed with the Garrick Room where we had the wedding and the reception afterwards. Could do with a bit of modernization here and there but keeping within the rustic and historical appearance. It sits in the heart of Lichfield City Centre and have easy access to shops and nearby bars and restaurants.

Great town centre location with free parking when you book direct. The hotel is clean throughout and our room was well serviced. The staff were friendly and helpful. The evening menu was varied but I found the food a little disappointing. Breakfast was good, tasty, varied and good value. The decor was tired and a very loud extractor fan runs in a courtyard from 06:00, which is very loud.
